Best Esteem Poems
When you were born...
a gift you received.
Invisible knitting needles...
can you believe?
The yarn started out white,
then you added the the colors...
depending what happened
as you reacted to others.
You are the creator of your own scarfs design,
It's based on life's lessons...
let's keep that in mind.
The longer the scarf...
the warmer you feel,
as the cold winds of defeat...
are right on your heels.
The negative remarks that get you to question,
your value in life...
may I offer a suggestion?
Start knitting yourself in the opposite direction,
just ask God for help and his loving protection.
Good thoughts of self will make your scarf grow.
At the end of your life...
the results they will show.
With each negative belief...
your scarf will start to unravel.
One can not go back...
for there is no time travel.
You are the knitter...
so It's all up to you...
believe in yourself...
and to yourself always be true.
P.R.Deremer
I wish you would
ease your hold
on me...
I wish you would
allow me,
to be who I really am...
I wish you would not sit
on my shoulder
and whisper in my ear
"you're not good enough"…
I wish you could disappear
and never find
your way back...
I know, I would be happy then
I know I would have
the courage to venture out
and reach for my dreams...
Then I know, I would be me,
if only I could rid myself of you,
low self esteem…
Hey Gorgeous Being
You deserve to breathe easy
You deserve amazing food
You deserve love
What is Below, is Above
You deserve heaven
Bread that's leavened
Butter, Love, Honey, Fruits
Shade - only from trees
With deep roots
You deserve a Groot
A nice sharp suit!
Warm, Yummy soup
An awesome pair of Boots!
You deserve Gold
Agriculture... Flowers, vegetables fresh from the ground,
Fruits off the vine,
Geometry in language,
528Hz, 888 Hz...
You deserve Love
Pure as your heart
My Gorgeous Being...
And you will get what you deserve
she used to shrink
inside her own skin
wore doubt like a coat
stitched too thin
but broken glass
still reflects the light
and jagged edges
sharpen the fight
now she stands
where my fears once laid
building worth
from the cracks they made
she is gold in the dirt
still gleaming unseen
an unfinished masterpiece
bold and serene
You might think you know me
And others think so too
But who I am to me
Is not who I am to you
And you are not the same
As who I really see
Because who you are to you
Is not who you are to me
What we see is limited
To what the other’s shown
So though we say we’re friends
We both remain unknown
You may think you really are
What you keep inside
And I may think that I am
More of what I hide
Too scared to reveal the truth
Afraid to show our faults
Cause knowing who we really are
Might put the other off
If I saw me through your eyes
I’d only see what’s good
And if you could see what I do
You’d see you like you should
So maybe we are blind
When it comes to who is who
But I think we might see better
From each others point of view
In the world of today girls feel the need to sexualize themselves.
Social validation is more important to them than personal values, family, and getting good grades.
Makeup and skincare can be found in their online shopping carts—
replacing Christmas wish lists
along with clothes that are two sizes too big or two sizes too small.
They get so anxious when they can’t find their makeup
that they hyperfixate on their hair and clothes and pray that their face wont receive as much attention.
Their crooked teeth and hairy legs start to feel like defects that are yet to be fixed.
They let their old interests sit in boxes and collect dust in the attic because they’ve been peer-pressured into believing that they’re childish and uncool—
just like they were convinced that food was bad
and teaming up with their own bodies to fatten them
and make them too big to fit in their own minds.
In the world of today, some cant afford to buy food.
And those who can often wish they didn't need it,
because they can also afford screens,
and they can afford to spend all the time they’re not working
getting addicted to the digital drugs we’ve convinced ourselves are not the problem.
Because nothing is ever a problem—
not to those with cool vacation pictures and straight A’s.
Nothing is ever a problem
for those whose perfect teeth and smile serve to display their picture-perfect lives.
In the world of today, life starts being difficult at age fourteen.
You Are Who You Are
(Dedicated to all students in Brunei)
You are who you are- a unique creature.
All men are your brothers but you’re different and rare.
None that came before, none that lives today,
nor one that lives tomorrow would ever be like you.
You are a unique rarity of nature’s creation,
an end product of changes through years of evolution.
So you’re well-equipped in both body and mind,
as any other creatures, emperors and wise men.
Within you burns a flame of discontent,
raging so fiercely for years and generations.
It scorches your spirit, a constant irritation-
an eagerness to be better, as you journey on.
You have unlimited potential that should be put to use,
lest it will rot and die, stagnate and run dry.
You should achieve more, much more than you’ve done,
and not indulge in self-praise for achievement not grand.
Struggle may not be easy, thorns may come your way.
But they’re chances in disguise, hold on ‘till you’re free.
Nature knows no defeat and so should you,
victorious you’ll emerge as you persist and wait.
Into a mountain you’ll grow not shrink into a mound,
by straining your potential until success is found.
Yes, you’ll be the greatest, the greatest of all,
‘cause you’re not born by chance, that’s what
you’re here for.

It squeezes all hope
Like something tied down with a rope
Giving one a name such as a dope
Alas! Who with this can cope
It makes a life journey very bad
Leaving one with a mind that feels so bad
Here a child isn't bold enough to call his dad
While any man would love to see his lad
Like an honour it bestows on man shame
Which stands in the way of one's fame
It disables the power of the mind as though a lame
Being hindered to play his life's game
Our progress it loves to bog
By defeating one's confidence through its cog
It's as wicked as a ferocious dog
Oh that it would fall off like a log
Sometimes I wish I had more of a story to tell
A story of abuse or divorce
Sometimes I wish I could blame this all on hell
A story of true remorse
I'm not sure if it was my speech impediment
Or relationships based on lust
I'm not sure if it stemmed from my first broken heart
Or if it was just misplaced trust
All I know is I drown in my own demons
And they always win
I don't know if I'll ever know the reasons
I fall into sin
I always love to listen to their stories
Of broken hearts and broken dreams
I can't sleep till I see them through the morning
Silencing the silent screams
I love to push the pain away
Burying it for another day
I'm the first to reach out a helping hand
Even when I'm the one drowning
In the sinking sand
I'm not an expert on anything
Everything I touch seems to fall apart
I feel like I've been given everything
No matter what
Everything I touch seems to fall apart
God
Give me grace
Give me love
Give me something
I can be sure of
Because these drunken nights alone
I can't take much more of
I need your guidance
I need your grace
To save me from my
Low self-esteem
Blessed are those who naturally possess
a strong sense of self and solid self-esteem.
- This is nature at its best.
Vulnerable are those who solely succumb to
relying on extrinsic forces to consider their self-worth.
- This calls for nurturing in its most primal state.
If children grow up being enjoyed rather than tolerated,
They learn to accept themselves and others.
If children are liked as well as loved,
They feel like they fit in the world;
They have a sense of belonging.
If children are talked 'to' rather than 'at, '
They find their own voice.
If children are included in good humor and laughter,
They're inclined to believe that wishes come true.
If children are showed faith by actions and prayer,
They are quick to have hope.
If children live with peace and harmony,
They discover their own Truths with confidence.
~Such sustenance rears individuals with promise and positive perspective.
~It is the gift of healthy self-esteem;
~A positive self-concept.
If nurture naturally embraced you, have gratitude.
Be joyful in the acceptance of you and those around you.
Remain involved with self-discovery and improvement.
Raise your head high and breathe; for,
You are the fortunate.
Self-esteem
greatest gift possessed.
Difficulty ability
to maintain and accept- my looks

Burning out my life

chipepo lwele
my name means flames that crawl down your face and ruin your night
it's when you laugh so hard you break your spine
but then realize you never had one in the first place
it's when you beg God to make an optimist out of a suicidal headcase
it's when you sit and think "what's wrong with me"
it's shades of blue in the minor key.
the color of the sky, the warmth of sun and the way she lovingly lights up
the moon the stars and the clouds,
it reminds me of the sound of chains hitting the ground
the sound of goliath tumbling down,
the way the earth shook as the prison walls gave in.
it reminds me of the beginning.
in any case, it's beautiful.
even Heaven sighs.
my favorite poets: speak not in stanzas but in verses.
they speak in major and minor keys,
requiems concertos and symphonies.
they speak in the secret chord that David played,
and it pleased the Lord.
but you don't really care for music, do you?
you'll often find me searching for a magic pill to cure my sober thoughts,
clinging desperately to a burning makeshift Cross.
you'll often find me sinking into a white pillowcase
but it won't be long until it's covered in stains,
mascara and tears,
expired dreams and growing pains.
you'll often find me with a crackling voice.
i can't find the right words to say anyway,
so let's just talk tomorrow,
though i'm certain the result will look the same.
but anyway,
if you want to find me,
that is where i'll be.
You had better think twice before using that knife;
You won't be protected because that guy is well connected;
You are first on the list the minute he is missed;
Want to spend your life as some hairy man's wife?
I think you ought to know you won't run the show;
You'll have to PC up from the grave he'll erupt;
I think you need to leave or for life, you will grieve;
Reliving the day when you gave your life away
In a moment of doubt you pulled your weapon out;
You bullied them around & tried to hold them down;
I want you to know they'll still run the show;
Even if they go down you won't be around
You reap what you sow as you always show;
Doing this deed still won't quench your need;
Berate and dominate when it's yourself that you hate;
Claiming that its love but truly love can't be judged
It's your mind that creates scenarios that are fake;
Maybe take a tip I think you oughta quit;
Before its too late to stop your mind rape;
There is no excuse for constant mental abuse
Stories you make up another excuse to erupt;
Then plan your attack when no one's fighting back;
You push them around & throw them to the ground;
Consequences are severe for those who instill fear
Today I have to say you can't always have your way;
Straighten up your act these things you can't take back;
Take the knife from his back and throw away your sack;
Before its too late and you seal your own fate
I walk into the crowd as if I belong
No one acknowledges me audibly
A few looks and nods my way
Are the only affirmation of this existence
Free laughs and joking are around me
Swirling like a wind devil
The friendship bounces off quickly
Tears fall on the inside, no one sees
I laugh when the boys joke
But I am not really in the group
Waiting for the day to be free
Wings spread soaring high
Independent from this group
Leading my own life....
alone,and scarred, no hope for you to gain
that which you've sought with love and pain.
No one will ever come to esteem you a star
in their bosom nor visit from afar.
The arrow sparred you no victims for food
You wonder the wasteland a starving man,
moribund by starvation whom none wooed.
You cried out and none heard you dying on the sand.
