Best Drifters Poems
playful artists in august sky
AP: Honorable Mention 2025
Footsteps fade where sidewalks end,
stories told in weathered skin.
Cardboard kingdoms, borrowed ground,
a life unseen, without a sound.
The city hums, its lights embrace,
yet shadows slip between its grace.
Hands once held, now pockets bare,
eyes that search, but find no stare.
The wind knows names the world forgets,
whispers woven in regrets.
A resting place beneath the sky—
another night, still asking why.
Let the brief time be cast away,
Let the movable thread be loosely handled,
Let the shadow be cast on you,
Let the water flow over the distant edges.
But when you know you’ll never get the wanderer back,
Even as you cast him off,
When you tally the drifters,
They’re all misplaced and undone.
The Moirai will let him go,
Because, you know,
You only need him when the lights are burning low,
And sympathy wears veils no daylight wants to show.
His shadow is turning into a gyre,
Spin after spin;
Wearing lonesome attire,
Only his body is the circling machine.
His dreams come slow,
But they go so fast.
Perhaps they were never his,
Just echoes in the gyre’s turning shadow.
Vagabond drifters
meander on zephyr winds
never questioning 'ere they rove
Kindred gypsy souls,
undaunted by life's harried challenges
xenophobia and judgement free
ignoring yesterday's philosophies
the seas horizon
distant shores beyond… beaches
coconut drifters
I'm only steps from leaving
walking breathing
the roads length
the worlds end
escape from here
never listen
never hear
regrets are in the past
no promise
of a better life
drifters lost vice
I do not run
I walk slow
where are I go
I will never know
Long forgotten song,
Drifters find a home to rest,
Narrow road revealed.
Invitations here,
Penetrating barricades,
Summer rain unveils.
Your Arms wide open,
Mending scars from ancient days,
Faith has no limits.

They come from many
miles away.
Visiting places.
But never stay.
Spreading knowledge
to the ones they meet.
For money, food,
or shoes for their feet.
Speaking of several
lands they’ve been,
and others they plan
to explore again.
Changing directions
like the wind,
on a long journey
that’ll never end.
One by one they drift away...
And now there`s nothing left to say...
Now they all go their seperate ways...
Will they reunite one day...?
Weave our web of freedom lust
dodge just purpose create mistrust
for we are the drifters no need to fear us
A walk along freedoms edge for weekend
or holiday brings you to our domain
but no need to fear us for we are just
a state of mind that you regret to leave behind
Our feelings are natural not neon
they come from our hearts not television
house and garden maybe fine for some
but we fine it hard to conceive
forgive us as we choose our own dream
For we are the drifters and our world is real
no plastic margins of silver and gold or look a like wood
to surround wall framed images of yesterday tomorrow
or if only we could
Painted or prints all the same after you've payed
scenes in valleys a sunsets golden glow
trees and rivers captured no breeze no flow
collect them all if they could trying hard to cover
bricks wallpaper or painted wood
god knows the views from windows isn't any good
For we are the drifters you don't fear us
we live outside the frame of your mind
and water a dream many have watched die
born to run no made this way believing in ourselfs
rain pain or anything without a frame
So we are the drifters next time we go by
give us a wave and say hi
don't just stand there
with mouth gaping wide.
Drifting on the breeze,
white wings carve the salted air,
echoes of the sea.
a drifter so unsure
becomes the best thing that ever happened to me
now it is time for her to go
a tear runs down her face and mine....knowing our first is our last
as we slowly and reluctantly wave our goodbyes, we both turn away to the lives we chose to live long ago
deep down inside, we are both afraid of the unpredictability of change
i guess i am a drifter too in that aspect
i ache to ask you to stay....however i know your mind, like mine, has to stay on a trip
we yearn to remain together, but our loyalty to God's Plans for us keep the fresh footprints manufacturing
two drifters sure enough....
Im just drifting in the abyss we been lost for a while now...
Non existent feelings we exhibit as the walls start to fall down...
O compromise equals divide so our end is near ...
when its everything your risking you gone miss me if I disappear...
idle thoughts we never hear ...my heart in need of gentle nurse..
Left my love stranded at the edge of the universe...
I watched my world burn cause my life was just the darkest curse
Never shown a grievance as the pieces of my heart disperse ...
emotions I no longer hold Arctic soul so don't converse...
everything divided by a crisis that we can't avert ....
A feeling fell,another too
a feeling fell out of the blue
in snowy drifts the flakes have gathered
on our faces feelings lathered
on his bed your father's dying
from a lack of feeling ,crying
withered fingers reach beseeching
for the touch of feeling,teaching
feelings falling from his eyes
could you,can you, still despise
how he never showed emotion
now he's crying you an ocean
Yet too late ,your heart is broken
all his tears are just a token ....
still ,compassion makes you lie
you dry his tears and say Goodbye.
Drifters have nowhere,
as leaves go everywhere, they live.
