Hey, if you really are
who you say you are,
then stop the war.
You will save us, you say -
really? then lead the way,
hold the oppressors at bay.
All tyrants forever vanquish,
evil men from the earth vanish,
the righteous do not punish.
Start doing your job, damn it,
your flock is taking a lot of hit,
oh, man, you are blowing it.
Come on, show your pretty face
and save the tired human race,
put the wicked in their place.
Take away your people’s fears,
wipe away their wasted tears
borne all through the years.
Don't just sit up there doing nothing
while ancient Baghdad is burning,
hurry! you've got to do something.
So if you’re really a superstar,
if you are who you say you are,
then stop this senseless war!

Everyone sees something different when they look up into the stars. Somewhere there’s a young boy dreaming of becoming the first astronaut to meet new life, on a distant planet. Far away, or maybe just down the street there is an old woman hoping that once her bones meet Earth’s hallowed chamber; her soul will soar into the heavens and her life will become a part of the light that breaks the void between life and death. Her journey, finally becoming as eternal as she always hoped it could be. Some just look up and feel infinitesimal, a speck of dust in a vast and obscure reality. Others simply feel a sense of calm as their distant glow sends tides of vague understanding into their pondering souls, unable to fully grasp the endearing mystery of their presence. I’ve always felt the latter, when I gazed up into the night sky I always knew somewhere deep inside that I wasn’t alone. That something was looking down; not aliens, not a burning celestial knot of souls, but something beyond human understanding..something that tonight seems unfathomable and out of reach. When I was young, I had a form of recklessly unbreakable faith that at the time I thought could not be torn by anything. I had a soul, and a pure heart that would break for anyone, as long as someone was there to mend it, at day’s end. I was sure that there would always be someone. Sure that this world was built by grace and endured by love. But tonight, no hope radiates down, I feel nothing, no presence, no understanding, vague or otherwise. Tonight I am simply biology’s cause and effect. The swelling of impure neurons tossed around in the fatty tissue of a confused brain casts doubt of any sort of happy ending. I am sure that someday gravity will take its toll and do its work. Maybe we will get it right next time.

Prose
You write simply to baffle
You draw from deep dark pools
You offer tear stained searching eyes
The unbelief of fools.
You have the fetching meter
And choice of words arrests
But Friend no helping hand here
To deal with life's hard tests.
Your readers seek out wisdom
And comfort from rich verse
But witty nihilistic rant
Has left them feeling worse.
You had the chance to uplift
You had the gifted pen
And Christ of course the best resource
To light some fires again.
What if He comes to wake you
With lines you hear sublime
Will you bow, drink and share His link?
Or post froth one more time?
(Yes, a revolt from the present day norm of shadiness, shallowness and godlessness in poems.)

Pastoral
You think what I do is a joke
Some kind of elaborate hoax
Never understanding what goes on
Barely looking further than skin deep
I bury my feelings
Hidden under the surface, bleeding
While I’m trapped inside my mind
You assume everything is just fine
I keep things private
No worries from everyone else
Secrets never uncovered
Tears never spilled
When things finally explode
You’ll dying be alone
I’ll be rising from the flames
This was never a game
Life isn’t a gamble
I don’t want to waste it
Things you said were bad, I find perfectly good
I never needed to be fixed
I may see dark as light and wrong as right
But I am more than you could ever be
Don’t take me down with you
I’m making more changes as you drag that last ragged breath
Smiling as if I actually feared death
Life is better now that I’m free
People are happy and secure
And too late realize all long that I was never weak

With more than a hint of anxiety
I doubt all around me
Seeing demons in every shadow
I worry constantly
No rest for my mind
No peace for my conscience
Every breeze that blows
Is an omen of impending doom
I feel so marooned
Far away from tranquillity
I need someone to rescue me
I question all
I analyse minutely
Nothing satisfies me
I am always frazzled
The strain of fear weakens me
I feel unable to be happy
I wonder about what ifs
And throw constant strops and tiffs
I didn’t realise life was going to be like this

Prose Poetry
On this morning Thomas awoke
Ready to take on a forecast predicting he would get soaked
Still doubting thinking meteorology was a joke
Headed outside
Winds blowing no lie
Running back under covers
Twenty four hours washed out waiting for another
Throughout the rainy day
Wondering if everything was okay
“I have nothing to say”
Doubting Thomas peeked out to skies angry and grey
But for a second a glimmer of sun
Storm must be done
Opened the door
And there was good old Danny on his stage floor
“We are in the eye
Bad weather has not said good bye
Could you spare a nickel and dime?
For the information I told you on my mind”
Securing all his shutters
Doubting Thomas prayed to the Holy Mother
Hoping this will end
Leaving the destructive mess to mend
Bed is the place to be
Tomorrow work to pick up the debris
Due to Dan
Monitoring his five and dime climate stand
Doubting Thomas was not in a life threatening jam
Only to hear the message ‘stay at home’
‘All alone’
‘Sit by the phone’
‘For the call
That is all’
This was an honest warning
Informing
Reporting that water is pouring
Instead of ignoring
About this time that was not boring
Since Thomas must
Prepare to fix damage from the element’s fuss
Without any cuss
Replacing it with community trust
It is a lesson in concern
Knowledge stand firm
For others not to get burned
Getting caught in a situation
Where they are facing
Natural trouble
Distant from their corporate bubble

Doubting The Word
To doubt what the Word of God says
is the most foolish thing that we as humans can do
and to listen to the devil’s voice
will only to his amusement make a fool out of you.
The nickname Doubting Thomas
stuck to that disciple just like some powerful tube of glue
and if you are not careful of your thoughts
it can do the same work on you.
Wouldn’t we rather than be known
as the one our Lord can trust
leaning on Him and His Heavenly Word
it surely and definitely is a must.
Taking the Word as written
and then choosing to make a courageous stand
always pushing the enemy back
and reclaiming from him all of our stuff and our lost land.
Time is so short, my brethren
there is no time to waste
doubting His promises robs us of our strength
and causes us to stumble and to fall right on our face.
For we know that the word says
anything that is not faith is sin
and His precious Spirit is always aware of
our heart’s voice and whatever is within.
So, next time that ole’ devil of doubt
comes calling and banging at your door
knock him down with the Word of God
and give him what is due him and ever so much more.
Then when he sees now
that you and I are going to take a strong stand
he’ll pack up his bags and move to a
more weaker and passive land.

He still hasn't called,
I check the dial tone again
sure enough,
it's still there
buzzing
alone without conversation
It's unbearably obvious
that I mistook our chats
as a sign of tenderness
and not what they really were,
me listening wistfully
to those false I miss you's
and forging them
into more than words
into what my heart
engraved them to be,
truth mixed with love
My ears have become restless
with their constant waiting
and I am completely engrossed
in a wave of impatience,
the kind that nauseates over time
and my belly is churning
with anxiety,
a slew of mystical butterflies
flitter around enthusiastically
beneath this shell of frowning tolerance
The phone rings,
it's him
but I don't answer

With confidence I tell you - Get your own.
Imperfections you fear will be exposed
are what qualify you as you alone,
and you alone are owed for this composed:
Consider all you are and have to share -
A mother, you might be, soft spoken, sweet,
soothing your daughter in a rocking chair,
her tiny heart and yours in synchronized beat;
and now consider why your daughter dreams
and why her tiny lungs with life are full;
and then consider how perfection seems
a bit like poetry - It’s beautiful.
Consider her, when you deliberate,
if you should doubt what comes when you create.

Sonnet
Throughout my young life
I've been taught the ways of God
I've never doubted the teachings
But now it strikes me as odd
The Holy Book as I've read
I can't take seriously
I don't mean to insult fellow followers
But it's shot with inconsistencies
Does it make me evil?
A Christian doubting his faith?
I'd like to believe my morals
Are silver anyway
I still believe in God
And to act to help the fellow man
But I cannot believe the book
That was written by human hands

He looks at the sky
No hope in his eye
Inside he is broken
Bottled feelings unspoken
Hands tied together
His future forcast doesnt look as if it gets better
Pacing frequently from side to side
Along the road he lost his pride
He looks at the sky
As tears fall from each eye
Slowing watching the darkness, expel
All the light in the room to simulate hell
The man stood his ground
Refused to go down
Everytime he didnt give up
A drop of happiness enetered his cup
In the darkness of hell
Though he was not doing well
He heard the 'whoosh' of an Angels wings
Listened to his spirit as it sings
Nothing from him did darkness consume
He could see even better when light entered the room
Now as he looks at the beautiful sky
His heart fills with joy and he never asks why

You’re making me go mad,
Making me miss what we had.
You made my emotions mix,
Something I can’t fix.
Your smile gets me tongue tied,
All the nights I have cried.
My feelings for you grew,
But our love could never be true.
You say you don’t know,
But my feelings still grow.
I think your feelings for me aren’t real,
After you maybe my heart won’t heal.
If only I could let my feelings shine,
Then I could call you mine.
What are we?
We’ll just have to wait and see.

O Doubt, thou hast given me so much joy,
That doubting has been my second nature,
Besides my life’s heaven-sent bliss and buoy,
Doubtless never goes even my prayer.
Had I clues to all questions that arose,
I’d have died under its heavy burden
O to have gone captive to self-made woes,
A slave with choice, joy of freedom nor fun.
Come Doubt-Revolt and let me face the truth
As an uncommon adventure of life,
Where’s joy in set answers of school-age youth?
With thirst let me carve truth, give me thy knife.
Had I followed set rules, curbed my rare itch,
Ne’er to set out in search of the unknown,
Imagine where in this world I’d have reached,
Wiped out erelong, from the face of earth gone.
You, Doubt, think, explore to experiment,
There’s thirst in thee to search as to resolve,
A strange joy thy inane predicament,
Certainty thy death, farther to evolve.
If Beethoven had not doubted Mozart,
Picasso had not Michael Angelo,
Einstein had not taken Newton apart…
Only he that knows not so, doubts not so.
Human wisdom began but with doubting,
From doubt came questions, wherefrom turned in truth,
True faith’s not in accepting everything,
Yet, we oft no more ask questions post youth!
O keep alive that doubting mind-- mother
Of all progress. Doubt, thy pain’s too lonely
To know that faith has been thy twin brother,
Sang Gibran, as can bards like him only.
Fair that many look wiser in their doubt
Than in their cast-in-stone, pre-set belief,
Indulge in doubt, forget thy awkward spout,
A doubt indulged in holds a potential brief.
Belief is it that goes out to divide
Us, as religions have through life of men,
You Doubt help us unite. A doubt denied
Comes by windows, should men all the doors man.
So, remember O man, in the kingdom
Of knowledge, doubt be the spring of wisdom,
And never once this Gibran’s wisdom flout:
Never on speaking terms were Love and Doubt.
