Best Defenseless Poems
I am just a swollen bloated thing in this harsh world
Nothing here but the laws of physics upon me hurled
No safety, power, decision is mine as I am uncontrollably twirled
Under and over and across the sweltering haze
Never before feeling, always fleeing from the gaze
Now it is just me… alone… caught up in a daze.
The ramparts have fallen, all is mis-aligned, broken;
The wreckage of my thoughts you left as mere token.
Untidy answer I wish was unspoken!
Everything, everyone caterwauling at me in my alien world
Eyes upon me, I cannot escape from this demented gaze
Ears ringing from pain - from curses unspoken.

Since the day our eyes first locked
you held the key to my heart.
I come to you defenseless.
Old barricades I’d put up
tumbled down; you built me up!
I come to you defenseless.
I have trust in all you do.
No fear have I in trusting you.
I come to you defenseless.
Trusting you, I trust myself.
My precious soul mate you are!
I come to you defenseless.

Theme title: #2: Defenseless
For Edward Ibeh's Pick-A-Title, Vol 14 - Tristich - Poetry Contest
a meeting
of the lips, yours...
and mine;
my heart was won.
it didn't so much
as put up
a fight.
you claimed it!
my shield
of armor
fell away.
crumbled, my wall of
vulnerability,
and...
i'm stripped defenseless!
(yalto)
Defenseless and drained of power
The reason is simple, you are a victim
an emotionless being without a heart
Hell is the snake in the room no one talks about
brainwashed lackey - screaming silence
- suppresses me with waves of steam
Missing a guardian angel
They find the hammer very quickly
aggressive enemy, a threat
The street has its own laws
the world is still full of shades and gray zones
Without shell protection, a defenseless turtle

amidst these sullen skies
tiny drops stream down
pain lashes out
atop the muddied ground
she sinks within
unable to lift herself
she tumbles down
like autumn's leaves
memories piling up
buried in the past
as years blow by
she crumbles
in winded gasps
time winds down
her last breath drawn
the storm lifts
as darkness falls
she rests in the stillness

#2 Defenseless
Tortured by iniquities’ guilt
My soul was condemned toward everlasting wrath…
Defenseless against penalty of sin.
Gripped with hypocrisy in the guise of meekness
My self-righteousness dominantly towered…
Defensive in alluding to human nature’s flaw.
Lured into materialism’s plunge
My carnality succumbed to worldly enchantment…
Defending flesh cravings for convenience-comfort.
Redeemed by the Saviour Jesus Christ
My spirit He quickened, granted with everlasting assurance…
Defenseless no more against death and grave.
Transformed to exalt the Lord* Almighty
My heart now worshipfully exalts His name…
Defense at work is the omnipotent Holy Spirit.
Strengthened for blessed service
My faith ascends along faithful stewardship…
Defensively vanquishing doubts and skepticism.
Blissfully basking in triumphant serenity
My life I devote reaching-out with love while yielded to Christ…
Defender Who deserves the best from empowering the defenseless.
*Psalm 94:22 But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.

Slash me with the sharpest sword,
Strike me with the minor chord,
From condescending, cutting word me spare.

I came into the world naked
Defenseless and helpless
Poor and up against a loveless world
I gave my soul to the devil
In the quest for silver and gold
And now eternal damnation stares me in the face
What is the essence of life anyway?
To serve my creator and live hereafter
I can never be richer at death
Than I was at birth
Naked I came from the womb
Naked I shall return to dust
Mundane possessions
Pale into insignificance
The instant you were born, my whole world changed
nothing was more important to me than you,
plans for future happiness got prioritized and rearranged.
I picked you up and gently rocked you in my arms
fragile, weak, and defenseless
you won my heart with your baby charms.
Helpless and dependent on mom and me for your care
I assured you with a whisper,
that mommy and daddy would always be there.
As feelings for your mother and you combine
you both become the focus of my life
as I gaze into your eyes, and you stare into mine.
I fell in love for the second time in my life
although I never thought it possible
to love anyone as much as I love my wife.
You count on us to protect you
and we'll never let you down,
there's nothing we wouldn't do.
You inherited your mom's sweet smile
and your bright blue eyes came from me,
but you brought your own unique style.
From your crinkly nose to your wiggly toes
sweetheart, you're the answer to our prayers
and amidst the thorns of life, baby, you're the rose.

There once was a ghost who loved the post
He enjoyed the thrill of the periodicals fill
Turning each page of the paper
Geared to those who picked up an honest wage as waiters.
There were all these incredible tales
Using sources that were impossible to fail.
Flipping through the headlines
He looked for a good find
Then there was this one
It looked like fun
A hunter name Sam
Frustrated since he was in a jam
While living in the swamp
In which he really did not want
Sam developed a plan
To get out of the bayou scam
After a beer
I will go out with this spear
Telling my wife, I am going to get a deer.
When I come back, I will say I was under attack
And almost got whacked.
Then we will sell since the property can be deemed from hell.
Trying not to be harsh
Sam waddled through the marsh
Watching for deer
And have an excuse to use his spear.
Going through very hushed
He found his way through the murky mush
There it was a deer and it was time to use his spear.
Going to this gun
Knowing the venison was done.
But something happened
That nearly trapped him
It was a ghost that made him miss
And this made the lovely dear give an evil hiss
Again, and again he did try to send
The spear to the de3r who just stood there without any fear.
“I kept missing and the deer would not stop hissing,”
Sam said knowing that his dinner was dead.
Going back home where he was not alone
Since his dear laid out a nice beer.
“Honey do you want to leave the swamp?”
She asked wanting to know if the bayou time has passed.
“Yes dear, I want to let you know that it is time to go.”
She responded, “but before we leave, I want to make sure that you believe, it wasn’t a ghost that made you miss instead it is the way you throw that spear in order to enjoy deer with your beer.”
Still flying high
Knowing the story was not a lie
The ghost closed the newspaper called the post.
Making the case it was the spirit in the air
That really did care
Showing the couple, the guiding light
Giving no reason to fight
And as Sam and his wife packed
Feeling better Sam did not get whacked
His wife helped him say goodbye
To the property which for some was a good buy
Defenseless
Young, Black, Brown, Defenseless.
Naked, Bleeding, Mute, Defenseless.
Broken, Hopeless, Afraid, Defenseless.
vulnerable shoulders scantily clad
bare of protecting pauldron
without his strong arms encompassing
chest underdressed
short of a shield
without his beating breastplate pressing
helmet unharnessed
mind recklessly unleashed
without comforting thoughts of our melding
beaming brass unattached
sword unwielded for defense
strong arms to swing ~ missing

When the hot droplets of sea hit the rough Fabric on your fitted t shirt
When the bones and nerves that write the Stories in this book grip so tight
They turn white
When
My brain finally lets the walls that
Hold in poison
Depriving the dopamine
The little amount that rarely shines
Give out
And release
I feel so safe
I feel as if the atoms surrounding us
Have vanished
I am vulnerable
And defenseless
But with you
I am not afraid of becoming either
Or
Unlike the days of old when cities were built with walls. Unlike the streets of my rearing, the place where my story began. And unlike a lone sparrow that I once rescued from a busy parking lot. When I walked alone and afraid
on a dark and dangerous street, no one came to my aid because I was
never seen, never heard. Walled cities had built-in defenses without which they were open targets with little hope of defeating their enemies. They
also had watchmen on the walls to sound alarms if they were threatened.
The locals knew better and limited their movements after dark. But I was new and failed to respond adequately to the smell of attack that fumigated
the atmosphere. I was a defenseless lamb among two wolves on the prowl.
I was the selected prey by the lurkers of the night, ever ready for the feast. They were armed and I was not. They were two and I walked home,
foreboding and alone. Unlike the Romans against the Jews at Masada,
no siege-works was required; no resistance was offered; no cry of alarm. Without a plan, I was the victim of that dark and silent night. Defenseless,
I did not run nor did I speak, and the two of them were armed, robbing me without a sound, leaving me defenseless, penniless and filled with wonder about my next move in the asphalt jungle. The innocence was gone, grave
damage had been done, and a new day had arrived. Like the good locals, I did not whine over spilled milk. Rather, I wiped up the spilled milk, built survival walls around myself and became a better watchman on the wall.
