Defenseless

amidst these sullen skies
tiny drops stream down
pain lashes out

atop the muddied ground
she sinks within
unable to lift herself

 she tumbles down
like autumn's leaves
memories piling up

buried in the past
as years blow by
she crumbles

in winded gasps
time winds down
her last breath drawn

the storm lifts
as darkness falls
she rests in the stillness

Normally, I struggle with any write that lacks punctuation yet I float through your imagery so thoroughly pulsed that I just, with this poem, noticed it is not your style to use it (don't know about always - I haven't any memory.) Another gem as is Soupy praise! Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Like sinking into quicksand with nobody to help you out. You captured the feelings of being defenseless so well. Love the lines "in winded gasps / time winds down / her last breath drawn". Beautiful and sad. I hope this does well in the contest, my friend ~ John
