Notes About The Poem

Defenseless

The instant you were born, my whole world changed nothing was more important to me than you, plans for future happiness got prioritized and rearranged. I picked you up and gently rocked you in my arms fragile, weak, and defenseless you won my heart with your baby charms. Helpless and dependent on mom and me for your care I assured you with a whisper, that mommy and daddy would always be there. As feelings for your mother and you combine you both become the focus of my life as I gaze into your eyes, and you stare into mine. I fell in love for the second time in my life although I never thought it possible to love anyone as much as I love my wife. You count on us to protect you and we'll never let you down, there's nothing we wouldn't do. You inherited your mom's sweet smile and your bright blue eyes came from me, but you brought your own unique style. From your crinkly nose to your wiggly toes sweetheart, you're the answer to our prayers and amidst the thorns of life, baby, you're the rose. (Tristich)

Beautiful, Emile. Perfect tristitch. Love the lines: "I fell in love for the second time in my life". Such a memorable piece, save it for when can read and understand it.

Emile, submitted on Valentine's Day, this is a picture-perfect love letter to your baby. You struck so many perfect chords with this, and as a father I resonate fully with these emotions and sensations. Congrats on a wonderful win ~ John
