Best Bull By The Horns Poems

What Is Poetry

What is poetry, I must ask? Writing poetry can be quite a task. Still I struggle and continue to write, Hmmm, for my delight, or do I write from insight? Although I get frustrated, very agitated, can"t bring myself to hate it because I"m also captivated. You see, poetry is something very new, something I thought I would never do, yes I thought nothing of the kind, poetry never even crossed my mind. Until Rehad. I was jotting down stuff that was really drab, while in my mind I was repeating a phraise while giving The Lord praise. Then a voice I heard, "you can do much more with those words" I didn't have a clue of what I could do.

So I started to think, I started to strain but the more I strained the further away they became. I was completely baffled, it had stopped me cold, so I stopped trying and behold poem's started to unfold. Now the tide has turned, no more free ride it's time to learn, so some candles I must burn, like everything else poetry too, you must earn. Instead I duck, I dodge, I hide, thinking of anything to put them aside. With all the great poets how can I compete, I feel as though I'm already beat. So I get afraid and into the back ground I fade, trying my best to evade. But that's not the case for every morning I awake they are right back in my face. I'm thinking, this is not the norm, should I grab the bull by the horns. My head started to spin, thinking how do I begin.

And from out of my heart, following the other poets is a great place to start, in order to proceed you must not only write, you must also read and reading is showing me it takes special people to write poetry. Which also keeps me in check and for all you poets I have the utmost respect. So whether good or bad, I will nether smudge nor carry a grudge for I am not here to judge. I just want to be a part of these wonderful works of art. But Poetry, I wonder, what will I aquire and what will transpire? I guess I must travel the unknown but it's good to know, I don't walk alone. So I say again my friend. What Is Poetry, I Must Ask, Writing Poetry Can Be Quite A Task?

Qué será, será; whatever will be, will be.
This proverb or expression many know.
It means if you are living with regrets,
for heaven’s sake, just let those feelings go.

There’s no use crying over milk that’s spilled.
(that’s another goodie for what I mean).
Take the bull by the horns and Giddy up!
Be an adult. You are not still thirteen.

Qué será, será. Whatever will be will be.
This also means fate is a giant thing.
So important is this saying there’s a song
for it, which Doris Day was first to sing.

How interesting the date the song was published.
It was my birth year, nineteen-fifty-five.
Maybe that’s why I find it appealing.
Decades later, the song and I both thrive.

A fatalist am I, so I believe
quite strongly there are things we can’t control.
For all the good we do, bad still can happen.
You’re on a roll; next day you’re in a hole.

Chin up; keep on going long as you can.
Struck down? Just smile and sing your cares away.
With qué será and whatever will be, will be
great sayings just keep coming into play!

Fickle Fingers of Fate

Fickle fingers of fate

They say "good things come to those who wait"
but indecision leaves love dangling...
in the fickle fingers of fate.

Take control of your own destiny,
grab the bull by the horns...
and ride the back of what's meant to be.

They gathered there that fateful night,
To discuss the plans of a wondrous flight,
That would take them far from chains that bind,
Where freedom is more than thoughts of the mind.
But, an air of uncertainty filled the hall,
And the penalty for treason meant death to all,
That gathered there to pen their name,
On that parchment of independence proclaimed.

Then a bold voice cried, "Sign My Friends!
For that document tells of the rights of men,
Whose souls have a yearning to be free,
To search for their dreams and destiny.
And God has given us this great land.
What more do we need to understand,
That to fight and die for a noble cause,
Is a grand opportunity if ever was."

Yes, the strangers voice rang loud and clear,
As he spoke to their hearts more than the ear.
Then he fell with exhaustion into his chair,
And when some ran to thank him, he was not there.
Though the door was bolted and a guard stood strong,
It seemed that the stranger had vanished, was gone.
But, the words he spoke were like bolts of light,
And all in attendance knew he was right.

Then they signed their names without a fear,
And seventeen seventy-six was the year.
Yes, they'd taken the bull by the horns,
And in that moment a nation was born.

Premium Member Just 42

Her calender was packed
She had so much to do
Had been valedictorian
Damn proud of it, too.

The world was her oyster
Grabbed the bull by the horns
Her drive and her intellect
Brought her accolades galore.

I met her post haste
She was school principal then
My son was a student
In her office...once again!

She told me her schedule
How she ran marathons
Her lists to achieve
Were impressive and long.

I met her one day
Said, "Come sit for awhile."
But she just couldn't stop
Had to run, in denial.

Today I sat down
To read yesterday's news
Saw she died on a treadmill
She was just 42.

I know of this gal who's started a diet
I wish her much luck in her quest
Can't mention her name, she'd be upset
But accepts this challenge with zest

We know how difficult diets can be
One of the hardest things to accomplish
But this gal can do it if anyone can
Her ultimate success is my wish

Once a successful real estate agent
Accomplishing that a great feat
So losing some pounds should be a snap
A lead pipe cinch to complete

There are many others in need a boost
To start them on their way to skinny
An incentive helps to spur them on
So once more they can wear a size “mini”

Good luck to her and all you others
Who've grabbed the bull by the horns
The prize at the end is so darn rewarding
To wake up feeling great every morn!

Before a rainbow appears
there must be a little rain
Before we find true love
we must have a little pain
you might run away from your problems
but your problems still remain
you have to leave the past behind
before you can make a change.

To travel through life successfully
you have to accept life is no bed of roses
and you have to ride the storms
see problems as a challenge
you can learn from
take the bull by the horns.

You can't rely on others
to give you a helping hand
and get on
you may have won a battle
but there maybe a war to overcome.

Life is for living
and serving God up above
to thank him for all he has done
and his love.

Don't put off until tomorrow
what you can do today
or one morning you may wake up
to find it's too late
your old and grey.

Take the bull by the horns
                                 You may find blisters corns
                                       But man be brave
                                       You'll surely pave

Premium Member If You Can't Forgive

When happiness starts to fade,
tears inevitably fall.
For lovers can't help but cry,
when truth means nothing at all.

Doubt encourages lovers,
to seize the bull by the horns.
For, in that moment, you get
to see that roses bear thorns.

It's time for you to move on,
and tend to your broken heart.
For hope hasn't abandoned you;
such feelings will soon depart.

Relationships cannot last,
if they are not meant to be.
And though you feel life's over,
there is so much more to see.

If you can't forgive the lies;
don't let them stand in your way.
Yesterday's a memory;
tomorrow's a brand-new day.

Yes, I have been privileged to be a Good Samaritan, but I prefer to share about other Good Samaritans. Most friends and acquaintances that I have known have been and are 'Good Samaritans'. I take great delight in speaking of four of them who attended the wounds of others as well as my own.

I was a wounded worrier for having lost the house keys of a business client. I was more than a bit consoled after describing the awful day I had before the keys were recovered. He made my day when he said to me, "That Day Is Gone". I shall call him Mr. Forget It who became my Good Samaritan.

I was wounded in confidence until one Sunday morning in the church lobby a young teenager asked me if I was still hanging in there. His question gave birth to a response that shifted the confidence of my entire being and certainly changed something deep inside of me. I replied to him, "No, I'm not hanging in there; I have got the bull by the horns, and he's going down". I shall call that inspiring teenager Mr. Hang In There who also was my Good Samaritan.

We had secured a contractor to perform some work on our home. At the time, we were frustrated, disappointed, and barely recovering from a world wide economic collapse. We had a price agreement for the repairs; and when the contractor finished, I handed him the check. He refused the check by saying, "I don't want this check; I don't need this check. At that point I was overwhelmed, because he had donated all his services, both parts and labor. I shall call him Mr. Surprise, who became my Good Samaritan.

The transmission on our vehicle had gone its last mile. We were deeply worried about the heavy cost of parts and labor that such a repair would require. The repair man was referred by a friend. When he arrived to assess the situation, the first words from his mouth were, "God told me not to charge you". I shall call him Mr. No Charge, my Good Samaritan.

I Am a Man

I am a man
Who once stood upon the top of his mountain
I am a man
Who had everything he could ever ask for
I am a man
Who held his whole world in his hands
I am a man
Who through his own stupidity crushed it all to dust
I am a man
Who has lost his daughter
I am a man
Who lost his dear wife
I am a man
Who has lost his family
I am a man
Who's whole world collapsed, was turned upside down, torn apart and scattered like the dust he created
BUT I AM A MAN
Who today stands stronger for it
I am a man
Who through it all started walking down the road to freedom
I am a that man
Who may have forgotten to wear shoes
But I am that man
Who with every bridge he crossed, struck a match, and watched that bridge
burn to ash
I am a man
Who took his bull by the horns
And SNAPPED THOSE ****ERS OFF!!!
I am a man
Who today stands stronger then any oak tree you will ever find
I am a man
Who has been to hell and back
I created hell myself
AND I HAVE SURVIVED
I am a man
I am a man
I am a man
Who is stronger for it.....

Premium Member Where's the Bull

Where‘s The Bull?

A few years ago at the close of the morning worship service in the lobby of our church, a young teen greeted me with the words, “How are you doing Mr. Curtis?” My reply to him at the time was, “I’m hanging in there.” This was a time when the nation’s economy was in disarray, and my personal finances were not much better. Some weeks later I saw him again in the same area of the lobby, and he greeted me with the words, “Hi Mr. Curtis, are you still hanging in there?”. I almost answered him in the same manner as before, because things had not really gotten any better. However, I caught myself and replied by saying, “No, I’m not hanging in there. I have the bull by the horns, and he’s going down”.

I believe that the 'Bull statement' triggered something inside of me that made a big difference in the future outcome for my life and circumstances. No, my belief system did not change, but a “God Moment” came to the front and overpowered me to overcome any attitude of doubt or negativity that had existed in my spirit. A fresh fire was kindled, and a ‘knowing’ within me was born that in essence said to me that I did not have to ‘hang on’ or ‘hang in’ there for dear life. The fresh fire enabled me to stop hanging on to the tail of the bull to be slung about and around wherever the bull desired.

The bulls of life are always on the loose, and bulls will do what bulls do. We must decide and take courage to do what Christians do. Our bulls of life will never go down as long as we are fighting at the tail by hanging on. It is when we take on the bull by his horns that we are enabled to bring him to the ground.

At the time of the young man’s question, we were in a season of life unlike any we had faced before. The seasons of the year can be defined and generally described, but they are never the same. We know that they are coming and going all the time, but we never know the character and the magnitude of their impact. So is the case with the seasons of our lives.

So. What is your bull’s name today? Where is he, and where are you positioned in relation to the bull’s movements? The bull’s movements are always strong and are designed to destroy us. We must not be content with simply hanging on for survival. Because God is with me, I can trust him in the stormy seasons of my life.
