The dulcet larks in oak trees bring a smile
On cue, here comes the sun melting the grey
I walk you down the garland-bordered aisle
So Mom and I could (quote) 'give you away'
One poem ends and one begins today

Premium Member Life Unpainted - Collaboration With Chris Green

I painted a desert in shades of my past
Muted in worry and tears
Granules of sand through a cracked hourglass
Falling in spite of the fears

A range of grey mountains all covered in snow
Cold like my feelings inside
Bordered the desert where nothing would grow
Disguised the volcano I hide

Arid reflections of times long before
Searing the pain to the bone
Lost in a dune now forfeiting the shore
Sinking head first and alone

Painful and clearly my brush strokes unveiled
hidden tears, years of neglect
Slowly emerging in painting, detailed,
hurt I could never connect

Shadows in beige blending in with the scene
heated emotions that bleed
Tell me, I’m pleading what does this all mean
merely an answer I need

I painted emotions in shades of my life
crafting subconscious relief.
Not understanding how my palet knife
changed my despair to belief

Landscapes of sorrow in off canvas glaze
Gather my colors to be
Filled with the beauty of soon to come days
Waiting unpainted for me

Evening Sky

She wears a gown of saffron silk
bordered with black leaf lace,
the moon her silver circlet clasp
with sparkling stars encased;
she dips satin slippers in the sea,
we her opalescent footprints trace.

Premium Member Casted Stones

As I ride the winding roads away from smothering waves of hypocrisy,
I cross the line into freedom through valleys, soft breeze and fluent rivers
Decorated with weathered rocks and bordered by empty picnic tables
The multi-colored mountains rise high above me, holding onto spatial snow,
Before it’s stolen by spring’s warmth with months of waiting to be seen again
Suddenly everything is so simple, like the wandering turkey, on patches of grass
Old railroad tracks remain in place through crevices of gray cliffs so narrow on edge
Birch trees cast shining white color in clusters on the side of the road in the sun
Waterfalls flow down the mountainside with an ‘energy’ some thrive to have,
In a world spinning with hatred amidst criticism that drains the depth of one’s soul
While all those ‘complaining’ hurl insults like balls of fire, fueling it more each day
Yes, hypocrisy has its twisted way

But, far into the fresh air of these mountains, so cleansing and peaceful to the mind,
There is no place for this kind of hypocrisy that twists, bends and projects, robust negativity
Such that those want to push onto others like a wave in which they believe will drown the truth
But, God allows for spaces to be found that some things he dislikes may never reach
Such as these mountains, this winding road, this fresh air to breathe all with no casted stones

Premium Member A Savored Kiss

He warmed me as the sun when nights were cold
I was his moon, hair cascading in curls of gold
Lovers bound as one with yearning and need
With a hunger so powerful, it bordered on greed

I longed to savor his kiss and moistened my lips
We coupled together; sun and moon in eclispse
Desire not yet sated, I softly whispered a plea
"More deeply this time, my love, I beg of thee"

Premium Member Alone On a High Ridge

My spirit flew away to far off lands,
travelling over hills and vales,
o'er seas and deserts dry,
until it arrived high
on a cold chain of ridges,
where soft winds caressed my face,
freshness embalmed my inner self.

Perhaps that's why I saw her there, alone
lying on her back, gazing up at the sky
savouring the exquisite joy of silence.
For in that treasured tranquillity
dreams have room to spiral
from the depth of her eidetic memories
renewed and revived, never forgotten.

Out of that quietude she heard
the soft voice of her essence,
reflections of her life,
the joys of motherhood,
the fulfilment of love,
the pangs of parting,
the pain of illness,
the weakness of humanity,
the dreams and emotions
that ebbed, flowed and ebbed again.
I knew she left her home town
deserting her desolate living
renouncing all the humdrum of city lights.

No wonder she flew away
seeking refuge on a mountain side,
above a cascade of water,
lying on the sweet grass
that bordered the lonely stream.
For here she was at peace.
Relief tears trickled down her cheeks:
she could never really forget.

My spirit felt for her for I could feel
that deep inside her was beauty never bound.
I knew despite her tears,
she was happy there:
oh, that she could remain
on that pretty mountain nook
holding tight to hope:
happy amongst the heather
near the tumbling brook
for ever and evermore.

Rowntree Park

ROWNTREE PARK

I have found green here
bordered by white lines
that meet then veer off
into infinity, perfect symmetry,
peppered by flashing yellow dandelions.
These, and more, colours
I have found here.
I have found dreams here
in the bats that sing for singles
and scream for homers,
in the cleats that pound
a rhythm as they slap the ground
with mercurial delight.
Oh, the sights and sounds
that I have found here.
I have found the cycles of life here
in the grass below and the sky above,
in the safe and the out,
I have found peace.
I have found youth here,
for here I am not an old man
barely able to walk,
I am forever ten
as I round the bases and slide
headfirst into home,
the feel of dirt in my face
and the smell of death in the tag.

Herring Run At Cape Cod Canal

I could not paint a better picture,
Than the one in front of me,
Of twists and turns of the canal,
Bordered by endless trees.

A warm day with a slight breeze,
Giving the grass moving shadows of leaves,
Multiple species of birds stop by,
Some on the ground, some in the sky.

Gulls, Terns and Cormorants dive,
For crustaceans and fish of various size,
While sparrows, robins and occasional chickadees,
Grab insects on the fly.

Parades of boats, barges and ships,
Fascinate and entertain our time,
Sitting by the canal is more than a pastime,
It's watching life at its prime.

Fishermen, bicyclists, joggers and tourists,
They enjoy this special place,
Taking it all in; they embrace,
Nature at its purest!

A beautiful ride off into the sunset, and your horse
passes through a blooming cherry orchard bordered by cedars;
your leather saddle was rubbed with high-quality tobacco yesterday.

It's a big herbal cherry sun that is setting, and you can taste it,
with a sprinkling of spices, and the satiny union of the tannins are upon you,
so subtle that you wish for more at first; you must be patient as the velvet embrace deepens, insinuating itself deep within you in a silky smooth process, until a final slow-motion fillip of astringency touches the front of your mouth.

The cork was wet and crumbly almost to the top.
Definitely time to drink this wine; wish I had more.

A great wine to drink in solitary contemplation, or quietly, with friends.

*Robert Mondavi - Rest In Peace, man, you died in 2008 at age 94, and you always believed in making great wine.

My Kentucky In Autumn

My Kentucky in Fall

Peaceful country roads winding through meadows and hills,
and golden rays kiss purple asters, tall ironweed and abundant goldenrod.
Gorgeous colors are greeting me despite the warning that drought
would hold them back this year.
Glowing yellows, warm reds and burning orange leaves are clinging
to the heavy branches, limbs swaying in the autumn breeze.
Fallen leaves dance to the music of the currents,
poison ivy vines wrap the stately maple in crimson.

Damp snapping turtles sun themselves on a rock in the creek,
while further up a blue heron is standing silently, watching the
slow flowing water, until he is ready to strike.

Our majestic Ohio river reflects the cloudless, azure sky
while bordered by densely covered cliffs that are
decked in their autumn finest.
Profusely blooming red cardinal vines cling to the rocky ledges
are kissed by happily buzzing bees and bouncing butterflies.

Pumpkins, ghosts and witches decorate porches and front doors,
gray barns are brimming with hay, tobacco and corn,
contently harboring their bounty.
Acorns, black walnuts and hickory nuts are plentiful, yet squirrels
do not seem in a hurry to bring in their winter supply.

Smiling, waving hikers are climbing the autumn scented hills
to Tioga Falls, and Virginia Creeper vines show pleasing colors
along the old Rail Road Bridge.
On the side of the road the lush cedars have developed
their silver-blue berries,
and wild rose bushes are displaying their red rose hips.
Autumn has come to my Kentucky.

“The sacred lake also called Ganga Talao represents the mighty Ganges river of India.” Mauritiusinsideout.com>grand-bassin-mauritius

                       A Sacred Lake

In the midst of a tropical forest
The mouth of a long extinct volcano
Surrounded by hills not so high
Bordered by lush trees and bushes
Is the seat of sparkling waters
          That undulate in little waves
In direction of the prevailing winds,
Reflect the azure blue of the clear sky
The bright rays of the sun during the day
And white shines of stars and the moon at night.

Before men had set their eyes on the lake
Angels danced on the shore of the waters
          To the tunes of the breeze on moonlight nights;
When a dream revealed the sight to a soul
And slim pathways were threaded to the lake
Angels no more plied to the sacred site,
But thousands of men flocked to the spot for prayers
And on the eve of Maha Shivratri
Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims tread to the lake
To source sacred water to pour on Lord Shiva.

All year round, tourists converge to the lake
To stroll around this sacred site
Charm their eyes with its unique tapestry
And snap shots of its picturesque beauty
To relish as memento of their trip
And cherish as a divine work of art
          Legated to this tropical island
          By the graceful divinity
Who dropped a piece of paradise
In midst of the Indian Ocean.

So slick, so brown, baked and bright
colour and flesh, bordered by voluptuous curves.
You’ve made praises of you beyond a man-made stuff;
on you alone, craft, art and sexuality, together mold.

Your every action, movement and word
are sprinkled with little erotic flakes.
The provokers of nature-bending desires
cling unto your waist like colourful beads.

Chocolate steams coming out of your inner refuge
give sweetness like pieces of sugarcane in coconut water.
Converting every attention towards you
to the longing of a voracious chew.

Heightened temperatures and senses make any soul cough
when seeing your bare carrying soft elements so bold.
Sight of you is honey for passions so tough,
they consume, exaggerate breath sounds and never grow old.

Sketches of you even from amateurs are never rough
and the layers beneath your skin are the purifiers of Gold.
Matured and serious young adults have faith in love
but to your passionate affection, I’m a complete extremist.

White Picket Fence

I don’t want the white picket fence
I’ll take the one that’s weathered by time
Bent in a way that gives it character
Bordered by tall grass and wild thistle
You might rest your elbows on it after a long day
And smile at the sunflowers I planted
Because you know that when their yellow heads grow too heavy
They’ll have something to lean on

Chimed Upper Room

Chimed new day shines...eagerly corrects an upper room looks,
An attic improving rapidly...promotes roams of diligence,
Lacks found bordered leathered album...trapped topped a cornered desk.

Cutting edge mounts an Everest...Grand Canyon grooves a pass,
Emptying a corridor...grants patience traces of sweat caught brow,
Weighty whatnots slothfully shift...relief of prized treasure.

Lives confined--stilled in a photograph...bound neath grained-hewn film,
Reviving breaths aids wiping palms...adjusting dust rules idle air,
Widen pupil's gaze...proffers freedom to locked memories.

A leisurely dance of fingers...entertaining a page,
Courses from staging consequences...flips driftingly e'er so oft,
Cherished persevered poignant times...plus occasional laughs.

Age feebly trades a gentle glance...to sights of swept-up youth,
Niagara Falls revisit eyes...interlude recalls Wordsworth,
Rousseau swells the lulls...till Longfellow's maiden turns a page.

A soothing thoroughness applied...o'er sovereignty once claimed,
Delighting a soul wanting remembrance...effervescence inched rise,
Bestilled processing images...icons pageants the heart.

Strokes into yesterdays...fulfill a distant emptiness,
Once existed in certainty...consequently in dreams of need,
Now physically held...persuades rising tips of a mouth.

Butterflies of Beauty

O butterfly

Warmth does fall of wakened skies
Sunbeams frolic ‘pon this ground
Basking deep its soothing lull
Alone of wispy windswept sound

O butterfly of colors rich
Pastel rainbows flit the wing
Blooms so full and fragrant filled
Affirm the charm this waited spring

Such the beauty ‘fore my eyes
Emerald shades abound this place
Painted scenes of dawn’s sweet kiss
Enchanted vistas to embrace

Along a path of bordered hedge
A’ winding soft yon golden view
My heartbeat sings in harmony
To spend this morn with only you
