Best Amplifies Poems
Joy is in living life, which like a buffet,
is filled with tasty morsels for us to try each day.
Yes, Joy is in trying every sweet delight
tempting to the senses: touch, taste, sound, smell and sight.
Joy, though it comprises the basic senses five,
amplifies a sixth sense on which humans thrive.
Joy, when experienced at its very best
touches us inside our soul; that’s when we are blessed.
Joy tasted by the soul we never can ignore
for memories store joy, which lives forevermore!
Joy, most importantly, isn’t just in living.
Sharing it is vital, for joy is in the giving!

Vanquishing all reservation
twilight's prelude heralds
shadowy anticipation
of a secret amorous thirst
He surrenders once more
to his darkest desires
amplifies the sultry ambiance
with star spangled bursts
A slave in her entity
tremulous in her splendour
Captivating and illuminating
this shadowy tryst
yet her heart beats not in rhythm
to the songs he composes
she dismisses him once more
Saying… ‘it is what it is’
However, through chinks of his ardour
ebbing resplendence
Predominant primacy
hard to resist will persist
refusing to believe …’it is what it is’
refusing to believe …’it is what it is’
The intricacies of love
too difficult to fathom
Her preference mismatched
he cannot define
her daily mantra
heightens sensations
reserved for the one
who appears to outshine?
Nothing but ineffectual
is her discordant course
the unyielding reality
of it drives him insane
and through the ebbing darkness
she hears him screaming ….’it is NOT what it is
It is Not what it is’
No satin ropes will tether
her cosmic line of duty
No romantic soft liaison
would induce her to stay
Tremulous and tender
her love cruelly wanders
from his romantic serenade
she turns her light away
Succumbs to his enemy…Day
whispering softly…. ‘it is what it is
It is what it is’

Dramatic Verse
THE JESTER
Jester jingles
with madcap medusa-bells,
dressed in melodic-motley uniform.
A sea of foamy frills
frame the famed renaissance storyteller,
a creature feature
of phantasm for frightened children.
His ghost-white face
with comedic war paint.
Highly educated,
acts the fool,
preaching to the pompadour.
Folly finds the frolicking ear
of the entertained king,
even at the news of sinking ships.
The king’s delighted,
as balls lollygag around his throne room,
and pins dance before his eyes.
Mesmerized, hypnotized,
spirals spry and smiling.
Claps his cacophonous hands.
The puppet court amplifies the sound.
The buffoon’s very wise,
buried behind his makeup.
His strings
control the crown.
Royally screws the court
with tasteless remarks
and they bow over in laughter.
In the backroom formulates his investment plan.
Jester jingles,
of drama and lies,
of liberties and surprise.

Alliteration
within the parting of titian stained skies
a wisp of crimson elapses from sight
as a gossamery wind amplifies
lullabies falling limpid in hushed night
beneath the willow, i watch as it weeps
then cradle myself in its fragile limbs
'tis there that most forgotten memories seep
as the salty spray of loneliness brims
you reach out...a shadow in lambent light
i feel death's touch upon you through night's air
with wings wide open you take off in flight
unable to free me of this nightmare
this willow tree, though once my childhood crutch
tucks me in its folds, like a mother's touch

Sonnet
i repudiate this clock on the wall
each moment frozen of time
lashes back in internal strokes
against my weary soul
its ticking erupts
like thunderous echoes
within the confines
of my tortured mind
on this darkened night
i slip 'neath the shadows of past
running in circles
trying to escape
the grasp of hands
that taunt like death
eternal torture
through infinite seconds
that beat like this heart of mine
as the pace amplifies through mind
bereaves me of the present again
as i face my own fears once more
unkept from another sleepless night
i arise with the same fury as a sun
beneath the bloodied skies
denouncing the storms
as they rage on

Stress is starting to overwhelm me;
It’s certainly wearing on my health.
To many stressors all surround me:
Lack of time, lack of wealth,
Adult children always sponging off me…
Are pushing me into early death.
My landlord is not helping;
He’s forcing us to leave.
The mess my children made
Is something nobody would believe.
I’ts too late for cleaning.
I’ll be changing occupations
If interviews go well.
The uncertainty amplifies frustrations…
Certain Purgatory, uncertain Hell.
Hoping for tomorrow,
A better day…
Beg, steal, borrow.
I’m stressed.
I’m stressed!
Help!

My bathroom mirror amplifies
tired eyes and lines of discontent
a harsh reminder of the unfairness of life
and forces me to stare in the face
the cards I have been dealt but cannot change
I am not vain, but the bathroom mirror
believes that I am, prodding my esteem
with it's taunting illusion of superficial
desires and making me sick with longing
for all the things I do not have
Frowns furrow into my brow
and once carefree features twist
with violent acknowledgement
that I cannot go back and undo the undone
the bathroom mirror plays tricks on us all
waiting for those quiet moments
when we doubt ourselves and resolve
to change who we are entirely
But we would not have got this far
in life without being ourselves
and the bathroom mirror is a terror
that reflects back regret
and long lost dreams
failures and good times lost
the bathroom mirror amplifies
tired eyes and lines of discontent
a harsh reminder of the unfairness of life
and that's why I rarely look at it.

I have become like him; nocturnal.
Prematurely anaesthetised by exhaustion
then jerked awake into the darkness.
How long since I have slept 'til dawn?
A stifled yawn veiling scurrying thoughts.
Tennis match of emotions; back and forth;
volleying, lobbing this way and that.
The game, set and match of insomnia.
Then rallying forth as dawn brings clarity.
Despairing disparity sleeping finally.
The silence of the night amplifies my heartbeat.
Each breath echoes in the unsettled gloom.
As the dawn casts its ghostly light around the room
sleepless wakefulness wanes with the retiring moon,
and the owl rests, fatigued by his 'whooing'.
Unlike me he can sleep by day, the night is his time,
not mine; I am the intruder in the darkness;
a restless insomniac with an overactive brain.
Sleep well majestic wise one. No doubt,
when night falls, I will share your company again.

What seems dull by day
Flashes peril by night
Sparks far away
A trembling fright
The rustling of trees
Noontide's gentle wind
On nighttime's breeze
Nearly do me in
Night's shadow amplifies
What bright days minimize
Pitch-black terror underlies
The scream of the Evil Eye

Follow me to a ledge inside my mind & observe
as I leap
Many are very close to the edge but scared to jump
because they're weak
Being afraid to fall isn't the problem, it's only natural
to fear the crash
When you reach the bottom, you see yourself staring
back from a looking glass
Throw all your caution to the wind & feel the air beneath
your wings
A cage bird is free within its mind & you can hear it
when it sings
There are many things to fear in life, but fear itself is the
only cause
Don't be afraid to grow for that stunts your growth &
amplifies all your flaws
Cause & effect is natures law so it must be treated
with respect
Once I was blind to mothers' rules, but now I see
in retrospect
Have faith in self & take the leap, you just may be
caught before you fall
Once you let go, you'll see the truth, there was nothing
to fear after all

an idle wave to a crony

from time and

making no bones, the
forest amplifies a familiar tone;
a quaint display; a
hero’s welcome.
vermillion leaves trickle down
like confetti i sense
celebration.

freely from inside
the nebulous river,
keeping time so perfectly,
it can’t exist.

an ample forest,
i owe everything.

All Things Norse
The dark and dreary autumn skies
Illuminating moon amplifies
Shadowy figure arises
Through the misty fog belies
Her falcon cloak wears a whirring sound
Absorbed by loves battleground
Affliction blight of Niflheim
Embracing Freya’s willowy frame
This goddess walks through towering wheat, bittersweet
With grandeur attributes, beauty becomes deplete
For about her neck clings Brisingamen of fire
She knows the cost beloved husband was acquired
Odin’s ravens fly above divulge shiny blackened feathers
Hunting her walk upon the hills in steady measure
The moon sends its beams between darkened clouds
Reflecting her ebony ringlet hair abounds
Here in Folkvangr lives the field of host
Battle cries for mountainous ghosts
Hnitborg holds the mead of poetry
In mound of heights lives ancestry
And amber tears fill the alabaster jar
Until they reunite her to Odh

Verse
Preface
My name is Verlena Sexton.
I am in my forties.
I have three eccentrics – Oland. Emily, and Tony.
My adult children are my knowledge base in the world of iniquity.
I continue to face what I am depleting.
Form
In this bio, I must be unique.
As a Social Scientist, I will also be indiscreet to the point of reality in why I am objectively me.
Conformity
I grew up in Leland, Mississippi in a single parent household.
My great grandmother vested soul.
She and I would read scripture together to inform personality.
She would tell me this would ensure equity and identity.
My mom was a homemaker and a strong woman.
She dealt with life as it came.
She raised six children with little help from their dad.
All are grown now and she rests in Heaven.
My oldest sister is there as well.
My dad was married with a family at home.
I am the outside child from his union with my mom.
Outside means, I now look in to discover genealogy and to emerge into a biblical presence.
My dad is disable and doing well.
When he is call by Jehovah, I know he will be ready.
Orthodoxy
I am just an orphan looking for home.
I am not lonely, but I am alone.
Many obstacles I have overcome.
My love of family is a moral code.
As a mother, I must continue to be as strong.
I remember my mom in times of guidance.
My dad is always there with insight.
I am the cause and effect that manifest in life.
My great grandmother words are to believe in that which is precise
And to live a life vested in the spirit of Christ amplifies.
“The world is filled with liars my child. Trust will come via a rightful mind.”

Bio
Your wife sits beside your bed holding tightly your hand
Smiling although she's grieving, just trying to understand
You pulled out your feeding tube, chose your right to die
To go on without you after 60 years, she fights not to cry.
A stroke 6 years before left you paralyzed on your right side
Unable to speak, walk and eat, simple bodily functions denied
Life changed drastically, you needed long term nursing care
That I met you through these circumstances is truly unfair
Without food and fluids, you wait until death makes its claim
I believe if I were in your shoes, I would choose to do the same
The years of anguish and pain you endured has taken it's toll
Courage and strength amplifies as you access damage control
Don, you always gave me a smile that brightened up my day
With head nods and eye contact, you were always able to convey
That you were happy to see me and listened to all that I had to say
You'd nod and listen to my stories, I hoped I chased your blues away
I requested that you be my guardian angel when it was your time to go
You nodded with the sweetest smile that my tears threatened to overflow
Donald it was an honor to have known you, I have the utmost respect
For staying longer than you wanted, your love ones you wanted to protect
We'll all find comfort in knowing that you'll suffer no more
You had a long good life, a loving wife and children to adore
Now you will watch over us and guide us spiritually when we need
I have a feeling you'll be good at this, a special angel, oh yes indeed!
*Don was a resident of mine, he died 12 days after pulling out his feeding tube shortly after his 80th birthday. RIP Donald aka my guardian angel.

the sink drips of your tears and shines with your sweat
it cleanses our homestead and centres the kitchen cheers
it smells of your cookery delights
of every plate and pot you scrape
and of every scorn you bake
the tap tightens after every refreshing drink we taste
the kitchen sink amplifies every drop of water we waste
every step we take towards every curfew we’re late
you hear every glass and rule we break
every long face and chair we pull
listening to the laughter of the warmth you orchestrate from the kitchen
to the very drumbeat of our tiny, growing hearts
waking up to hear the sound of the dishes crackling during the holidays
the love gushing out from your heart like water out of an open tap
the smell of the lavender flow and spices in the air
the bustle and rhythm of your sweeping broom, the sound of my squeaking feet on the kitchen floor
the kitchen sink that watered me grow and the hardship you endured as you rusted
the sweet, warm childhood memories that pour out like your warm geezer you created
the mom you are I didn't always know, but the love you showered, I always appreciated
