Time

i repudiate this clock on the wall
each moment frozen of time
lashes back in internal strokes
against my weary soul

its ticking erupts
like thunderous echoes
within the confines
of my tortured mind
on this darkened night

i slip 'neath the shadows of past
running in circles
trying to escape
the grasp of hands
that taunt like death

eternal torture
through infinite seconds
that beat like this heart of mine
as the pace amplifies through mind
bereaves me of the present again
as i face my own fears once more

unkept from another sleepless night
i arise with the same fury as a sun
beneath the bloodied skies
denouncing the storms
as they rage on

Time ticks on and we hear its tick tock and we rarely think about it until we reach a decade further, how did we get here - by that infuriating tick tock on the wall who waits for no man and is ready to call us when our time is up. Lovely poem Sandy, hide the clock mentally and enjoy life my friend. A terrific poem. Hugs and blessings Jennifer.

Congratulations on your wonderful second place win Sandra. I can relate to feelings of insomnia within these lines specifically. “as i face my own fears once more unkept from another sleepless night i arise with the same fury as a sun beneath the bloodied skies“. Wow, I am in awe of your ability to capture these poignant feelings so perfectly! Bravo! Blessings xxoo

"eternal torture / through infinite seconds"... I sure relate to this one, Sandra. When I envision heaven, it is always without clocks, due dates, deadlines, or early-morning alarms. Awesome poetry, best wishes to you. Hugs ~ John

I read this and I thought "there was a word list?" never believing it until I saw the end. This is beautiful in its entirety and flows effortlessly; or so it seems to this reader.

Another wonderful free verse Sandy, if for a contest another sure winner, I see eight words were obligatory, I couldn't tell which ones they are it is a truly seamless write. Enjoyed I could feel the battle going on inside!
