With the window of the mind opened;
Birds yodel, and solemnly reveal,
All universal secrets...
They examined me with tape measures in their eyes as I entered
superimposing famous female faces over my own in their minds
like pictures printed on clear plastic sheets
placing one atop another onto an overhead projector
my teachers used years ago in the classroom
contemplating the magic of makeup
the limits of lighting
I could see in their stares what I’d learned to recognize
though the expression on their faces
remained stoic as if carved from cool, smooth marble
True talent was to them a secondary consideration
It wouldn’t matter in the least how well I delivered the lines
interpreted the character or set the scene
Audiences are apathetic to a poor performance
if the actress is sweet enough eye candy
I was more on the savory side like sage
used to spice up the flavor of roast turkey and dressing
I gave it my all anyway as I always did
though I already knew the outcome would be the same
They’d forget my name and number the moment
I passed through the door behind me back out on the street
my phone playing the part of a medieval monk in a monastery
who had hidden himself away from the world
taking a vow of silence
The poet hears silence;
in the eyes of grief
within the clouds motif
in the falling leaf
of the haiku,brief
Infamous girl
you sank to a grave dug with a silver spoon
infamous girl
you drag your dress across an ill fated field lit by the moon
Lure you, comfort you, f-ck you, toss you
put this cycle on repeat, spin in your own spit
This is a damning of the innocent hearts turned noir
Bang out of your intentions, or what’s left of them anyway
The music thumps in corridors made by the misfits who mishandle your direction
Your phoenix rose into this glorious infection
Infamous girl
you rang the bells at your own funeral
the parlor was set, the flowers arranged, but everyone showed up in white
They smiled at the tint of your skin
they reveled in the story of your sin
No one talks about the whore after she’s been buried underneath
six feet of earth and concrete
They remember the scabs and fancy footwork you used to get there
The past has been erased, the bobby pins and the pigtails in your hair
The past has been deleted for knee high boots slouched against a strangers chair
the blips of actions before you ceased are the talk of the town
of why you aren’t spreading your filth since you’re resting in the ground
"I'll not hold onto scraps of paper
love notes folded origami
brain confetti from last year
I'll not hold on, (for long) my dear
I'll not hide secret dried up flowers
slips of some things 'till tomorrow
never sipping sweet fruition
for it seems, my intuition
proved me wrong again.
I'll not remember your cologne
or spray it on when you're not home
and while I'm at it I'll forget
just why I loved you then...
and yet...
I kind of wonder what you're thinking,
if you need me, if you're sinking,
Maybe if I called this moment
it would save you from some torment?
Maybe if I saw you daily
sang our song on mix tapes, maybe...
you would then remember love notes
you would think on all you then wrote
How you loved me 'till tomorrow,
How we shared our joys and sorrow
So, perhaps, it's all worth saving
even when you're misbehaving
Maybe we should just get married!
Get a house, a bouncing baby
Mortgage life, dear - call me crazy...
as long as you just call me."
Well...um... did I get the part?
People die and people live,
People take and people give.
Some take more and some take less,
standing on the line, putting their courage to the test.
Standing and waiting till that day,
where courage alone will not be there to stay.
Living life till the end,
with unexpected bends.
Do I turn right or do I turn left,
drowning in sorrow and bereft.
Internal clock ticking my life away,
Telling me that on earth I can no longer stay.
Friends dropping around me,
desperately trying to make their last plea.
Should I give up now,
and take my final bow.
I no longer have to be afraid,
My life has now begun to fade.
Let the applause roll in,
as I fall into everlasting sin.
