Children who played so boundlessly
Out in the dew-fresh meadows
When the summer sun bathed life in chaos
And their hearts yearned so endlessly
Adults who sought so endlessly
In their fathers' glass houses
When night lights mirrored death in the frame
And their souls glimpsed so heartlessly
a sweet refrain walking in the rain
a child’s game walking in the rain
winds rustle leaves, nature’s song
a sweet refrain walking in the rain
cool relief from a sultry day
I step outside walking in the rain
light diffused veil of clouds
time shadows me walking in the rain
lush green leaves a summer day
weather front I’d say walking in the rain
the sun rests leaves dance
I listen to summer’s song walking in the rain
a wave of the arms imagination wings
childhood relived I’m walking in the rain
nothing to lose everything to gain
a simple joy found walking in the rain

In my arms you can forget your troubles
Close your eyes and leave them all behind
I’ll sway you tenderly to loving rhythms
I’ll comfort you to sweet musical perfumes
And protect you with all the serenity
Of a thousand starry midnights
Under feathery wispy lakeshore willows
That waver in cool late summer breezes
Close your eyes and leave all worries behind

Schools back after summer, hip hip hooray
See my favourite teachers back
Now that’s definitely made my day
Miss, you’re absolutely amazing
The only one I’ve ever had
I can’t wait for teacher training
Receiving lessons from the best
I can’t tell you how much I’ve missed you
That’s all I ned to say
Last year was a little fraught
For I started very late
Miss your lessons are so arousing
I’m ready to make a start
With one on one tuition
I’m always standing proud
I wondered if I wrote nicely
Someone would sponsor me
I might even be entitled to a grant
An adult education grant
Don't think that’s very hopeful
Looks like I’m back to self funding
Robbing the piggy bank
Growing up is not at all what it seems.
You have to be at work early and keep a strict routine.
No summer break, running through the sprinklers or first kisses at the lake.
Everything is now either a make or a break.
You now have a job, a spouse and dinner to make, kids to bath and meetings to partake.
With dinner burning in the oven, I reminisce of what used to be, a completely different version...a younger, more carefree me.
Sneaking out of the house, smoking weed headed to parties on the beach. Always laying around contemplating "what life will bring"
Now it's dinner time, and I think of how life has completely changed once I was given an engagement ring.
It's the last afternoon and we run for the school bus,
me and my brother, Mick, finally free,
'cos it's summer vacation, no teachers, no homework,
all the time in the world, well, a clear month or three.
We sit down for dinner with thoughts of the outside,
the playground, the carnival, so much to do!
"Say Grace, eat your veggies, and then do the dishes,"
said mom. "Kiss your Grandma, and Aunt Mabel, too. (ugh!)
I told Mick, "You be Tonto, I'll be the Lone Ranger,
it's MY mask, (you be Super Hero tomorrow,")
"OK, but I'm not gonna polish your pistols,
and I must make pee pee before we can go!"
"Come on! The light's fading, bad guys are escaping!
the world won't be safe from the wages of sin,"
so down to the pasture and up to the old barn
we galloped, 'til mom's voice commanded, "Come in!"
"Aww, mom, it ain't FAIR! What this is is 'ADULT dark,'
us kids can see, it's you old folks might fall."
Said mom, "then, there'll be no hot cocoa and cookies,"
"Oh, MOM! of a sudden, we can't SEE at all!!!
Nighttime descends slowly this hot summer eve
As the sweat pours from my body, without effort
Humidity caught us all off guard, wetting us down
With perspiration, a look that many find attractive
I always thought the opposite, but my lover, she
Loves the idea of even making more sweat
As the night heat burns on into the morning
She welcomes the moisture of my skin with her lips
My hands wander the wet curves of her body
As we both explode the thermometer in the room
With the heat we further exude and increase
We become part of the night
The sheets do nothing to free us of moisture
As the fan in the window serves no purpose
To release the increased perspiration she
Took my hand, guided me, shower running
Further explosion of temperature
Though water cooling and flowing
We, again, become part of the night
summer is fading
leaves are changing
i hear the laughter of children daily
as they wait for the bus
some are going back to school
but not all of us
i have no idea what i want to be
i still have no job
even though i am 18
i feel like my life has suddenly stopped.
like the rain falling from a cloud
and the time i have left
is like the one last drop
i have so much deciding i still have to do
i have so many choices
and yet i still have no clue
so i guess i will wait for the right time to come
when its more work
and not always fun
thats when i know
my adult life has begun!
