Unrequited

Unrequited

The things i think about,
never settle below
they float instead
and fester inside
as I pluck your name in the air
a sacred memory folds over
foaming layers, floating vapors
Creating a chill and then a stupor
the last draw of my breath
I slipped again, I stripped
you tripped in the end
Even if you stay in your lane
But you’re driving insane
so much distance between two cars
its impossible to hear
Muffled by the wind, carried away the fear
I tried to speak, but the sound
Never carried over
It rises an ache in my throat
nerves are calmed, noise is stifled
legs are stiffened, feet planted
hands firmly gripped
elbows abutted
in a world prone to forget
my memory stays etched
in your fractured mind
my taste stayed on the lips
of the one I've left behind
a fleeting moment
Betrayed by lust unveiled the trust
between the blinks of my eye
You remain a distant memory
The pain has abated
the speed is indeed fleeting
Forgotten with the past
in the throes between two fires
the faded lines, the dying embers
Looms over like the sun
So I say, you cannot stay
Isn’t that off-putting?
A broken soul
With a spirit so agile
My body so fragile,
with just one touch,
you peel my layers
like the sprouting weeds
between the pavement
the truth wants to be known
My touch so brief,
and yet it lingered
Overstayed its welcome
And in the horizon
It stretched, it lagged on
And with your imagination
My skin rubbed raw,
My voice cracked, I cringed
I become unhinged
My heart will always be disquieted
Your love forever unrequited

Rowe, I enjoyed reading this. There's so much evocative language, like an "emotional roller-coaster", but expressed originally and personally.

Not only POTD but you made it into the 100 Best New Poems listing! Well done :) I love the imagery too in your line "like the sprouting weeds between the pavement the truth wants to be known". Evocative writing.

Thank you Ms. Susan. You have no idea how this comment makes me so happy! The command of the English language is quite challenging especially if your first language is different. To be able to write eloquently express my thoughts using a language that is not my tongue, let alone being commended for it is very rewarding. I would love to learn from you and all the poets here. I did not have formal education and training in poetry, I just write from my heart!

Dear Rowe, this is such a poignant and emotive poem about unrequited love & its soul-stirring dynamics.. So achingly yet quite wonderfully you've described about that essence and how the aching feelings never fade yet wander in realms of anxious thoughts and a perpetual yearning.. "Forgotten with the past in the throes between two fires the faded lines, the dying embers" Ahh, these painstaking emotions can be felt deep within the heart. Heartiest congratulations on the splendid honour of POTD.

Love is a ' one way street ' You may move toward the middle of the road, and then to the edge for a moment. However, you both stay on the same highway, together. " Unrequited Love " is the worst feeling. Knowing that, while you're beside the one you love, they don't feel the same way. You've expressed this emotion with so many vivid images. Congratulations Rowe, on Poem of the Day. Welcome to Poetry Soup, as well. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

Congratulations on your POTD Rowe Weiss! You are a romance writer, as I got a familiar vibe, but in so many ways unique, do tell of the unrequited love that we know so well. "my taste stayed on the lips of the one I've left behind a fleeting moment" simply brilliant, "Sabor A Mi." Welcome! The New year brought you to us. :D I Am Anaya

Rowe, congrats on POTD for it is well deserved. Your poem floored me. The raw vulnerability in entwining memory and longing is breathtaking. The floating names, the windswept whispers, it's all so achingly real. I truly admire your strength amidst the ache, the "agile spirit" refusing to be defined by what wasn't. The fading embers, the unsaid words - they linger, leaving an undeniable mark. Powerful! It's a testament to your talent and the enduring power of love, unrequited. Blessings, Daniel
