The darkest hour comes with pain that's insane, Excruciating, unrelenting pain. The sobbing and gasping are so abrupt. The heart is broken; the body gives up. The darkest hour tries to take full control, Searching through the suffering for the soul. Disillusioning evil tells a lie. “Death will set you free, so let yourself die.” Numbness begins to smother the feeling. The chaos of your mind sends you reeling. In time you know there must be a reason To continue at least for a season. Looking deep within, you search for the light, A seed of love to help you through the night.

Wow Bill I was ready to call 911 after reading the first two lines. You had me worried there. Something I don't look forward in experiencing but I guess we all do unless we get raptured, l hope for that Bill I'd hate to go through what you so eloquently described. God bless you...

Thank you for your sensitivity to my plight. Michael. The specifics are more than I should share. The general is the lessons learned. They come out in some of my poetry. Thanks again for your encouraging comments and thoughts my friend. Bill

Wow Bill twenty years of Recovery. You have been through a lot my friend. I can't imagine going through something like that. Your will and determination and Gods's grance got you through it though. What an incredible feat you accomplish to deal with such an illness. You should write a story about it. I'm sure everyone is curious and would be supportive. On the other hand it might be a personal matter, or you maybe haved blocked it and you just had had enough of it and just want to move on. god bless you for sharing and I'm so glad you came out of it OK. God continue keeping you healthy my friend...

It was real in my life, and worst than it sounds. 1974- 1975, I survived by the grace of God. Terrible experience, but tons of life lessons and spiritual lessons in that one year. The pain and memories took another twenty years to heal and learn from. I just wrote down what I felt at the time. Thanks for reading and commenting my friend. Bill

Bill, to me, every comment or reply is a gift from a friend. Regardless of when it is received, it is cherished. This poem was clearly of personal significance to you, and it shows the depth of your character that you are able to share it with your poetry friends. The book of James states, "The testing of your faith develops perseverance", and in Romans, "suffering produces perseverance, perseverance character, and character hope. And hope does not disappoint". I'm so thankful you found that seed of love to help you through. I look forward to reading this again when I receive the upcoming anthology. Blessings ~ John

Somehow, I missed your comment, back in June 2022. I was editing this one and noticed my mistake of not replying to your comment. Thanks for the kind and thoughtful words, John. Now that's it in better form, I'm submitting to for consideration in the anthology. Blessings my friend. Bill

Pain, not only gets our spiritual attention, but it can be sobering in the sense of making us look deeper in search of reason and love. I wish pain on no one, even people I dislike or don't agree with. I don't think God uses it, for any reason -- it is a product of evil. We must have faith, and endure when at all possible. Blessings my friend. Hope you and yours are doing well.

Pain, suffering, non of this can be understood until Karma and Reincarnation are considered. I know, many seemingly innocent, including myself have suffered, for what seems no apparent reason than, a mysterious plan of God's. Have faith. I don't buy it...not possible from the Father Whom I Love with all my heart. "We sow what we reap!" Is that true...or only sometimes?

He Allows it, Our Free Will~that is all. He suffers every downfall and weeps with us, feeling every agonizing moment. It is never His instrument. He uses no weapons. Reread Paul again -- God did not give Paul that pain, he allowed it. Free Will. Paul brought it upon himself. He did not remove it because Paul had the power to do so -- by changing his heart and mind. Paul retained that lack of humility which permitted the malady to persist. In God's major plan evil will ultimately bring about good, for it is its own condemnation. Never God's desire nor will for us. Yet, I respect your disagreeing. I hope I am right:)

Thank you, Joe, for your wisdom and your comments. I don't agree with your statement, "I don't think God uses it, for any reason -- it is a product of evil". IMHO, sometimes it seems to me that God uses pain to prevent unnecessary further injury or death. At others times, like in the case of Paul's (pain in the side) for dicipline or to remind us of something. To help bring something to our minds. Just a thought. Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Joe. Have a blessed day, my friend. Bill

Nothing worse than being in the dark abyss of severe pain, but in time it eases and you slowly come into the light once more. Hope you're keeping well Bill, soon as I saw that vile comment on my poem alarm bells rang and contacted admin straight away. Some creeps have nothing better to do. Enjoy your weekend. Tom

Shalom, shalom Bill. Good conversations here, & your STRONG biblical positions. It's so easy to be swayed by "tradition & philosophies," (see Timothy, Titus, Jesus answers on Endtimes / verses in Matthew 24). ThanX, with yr prayer 4 us, Church-work us prospering.

This comment is great as it points to the fact that the physical mind/body” experiences suffering while the true Self remains untouched. This moment of profound suffering has been described as the dark night of the soul. It can be a deeply transformative experience. +FAV

I'm happy you have not needed to feel suck a pain. All things have purpose and my painful experiences have taught me many things. I am who I am today because of what my experiences have taught me and revealed to me. Thanks for the comment, Unseeking Seeker. Have a great day! Bill

Bill, You have described that inner pain so well. I’m sure you have experienced it as many of us have. When nothing seems to help and it only seems to get worse and darker. There is always light at the end. And love is the way for so many reasons. A seed of love is a blessing . Beautifully expressed. Hugs to you my friend, Susan :)

A dark start Bill, the flesh is weak.' But the Spirit.? Well if that's weak. I shudder to think.' However there are brighter lines ahead..' I Don't know Bill.. You are a one.' You've got me Acting all out of character here. ' some People Have me down as 'the gloomy one' and they do Need continuity..! Otherwise what might happen? I'm having grave concerns by now.' About my Role at this point.. So I advise less of this sort of.. Well shenanigans, get back to the happy stuff, LOL))
