Crown of gold curls in rainbow wrappers. Girly-girl, at two, favored to be beautiful. Eyelids delight to be painted baby-girl green. Dolly’s lascivious lashes soaked in black ink. Innocent strawberries dot baby-blue sleeveless top. Soon, she’ll be strapless, primping at the vanity. For now, she holds a mirror with her eyes closed; her reflection not quite perfected; a natural blush of lips, cherub-cheeks and baby-fat skin. Shedding the green, pink, yellow rollers with angel hair bouncing off her shoulders, and rolling out the hourglass figure with a perfect pout and hips that shout ‘look at me.’ Indeed, at two years old, she looks in the mirror, smiles, as her mother approves, and daddy sits in his easy chair, not knowing to be bothered by the impending storm of unsuitable guys at the door.

Oh, goodness, so sweet! The little beautiful little doll baby girl in the poem, so adorable! Daddy beware in a few years and protect her from those unworthy! He will, I'm sure, baseball bat in hand?! ;) Cute poem Kim!!

Enjoyed the whimsy -- and the dread -- of this recollection, Kim. Growing up is quite an obstacle course at best. At worst, a 'Flashing Danger Sign.' ~ gw

A very reasonable fear - sometimes it takes life, life for her, to make her humble, some never learn- and then, so many of these women have but have no soul

Ouch! What an ending. Yep! Father of two girls...do not want to do that all over again. But now there are the grandchildren, the great grandchildren...life a blessed mystery of suspense and action. Maybe, given the opportunity, after a rest, I would volunteer to do it all over again. Changing me first, before the diapers.

LOL…my husband used to quote John Wayne…my fault, your fault, anyone’s fault, anything happens…

Beauty can be an asset and a liability. You portrayed this will. I can almost see her priming at the mirror. Thanks for your visits to my page. Blessings

Those formative years where it is so important that mother, father, grandmother, and grandfather think she is grand. Fathers are so important to the development and also to her choice of future mate for life. I enjoyed reading this one. It was like I was there. Sara K
