Is it only me or is anyone else annoyed by the NEW? pop up ? spontaeous? unavoidable AUDIO ADS
I pay to be here. I don't want to HAVE to turn off my sound not to be accosted by ADS!! Geez Louise - [an American expression that came into being sometime after 1923. It is a piece of euphemistic blasphemy].

 

 

Now get ready for my next contest! Pick a decade and write a poem using the SLANG of that decade! And hopefully, no one will put a pop-up audio ad for VIAGRA up? When we try to enjoy it?

PROBLEM...SOLVED.... I went to You Tube found "Ad Block Plus" (various types for internet explorer, google chrome, etc) downloaded followed instructions and the ads are gone! Special thanks to Jan Allison who advised that her dear son had blocked her ads! Give it a try...

I sent to admin this morning: Soup Complaint worthy of your Consideration: Please contact your video ad sponsors advising them that their PAUSE button does not work. This causes my computer to flicker and run rampant up and down the screen which is most annoying and gives me good reason not to buy anything from them. I realize that you make a great deal of money from your sponsors but at the same time Premium Members/Lifetime Members also pay annual dues from which you benefit. If the paid members become unhappy then there will be no reason for you to have sponsors. You might consider putting the video ads on those who pay nothing to be on Soup. Sincerely, Judy Konos PM

I don't have an issue Judy as my son put an ad blocker on I definitely don't get any sound when i do have my speaker button on:-) I can imagine it is very irritating!:-) Hugs Jan xx

There is a page a place where you can click the ad is NOT APPROPRIATE! & do go to that page and answer there questions regarding ads then at least you don't get ones you can bear to look at. ALSO, I do shop on line at L .L. Bean so now I do get their ads poping up which are FINE. I wrote the ad company a note and told the EVEN OLD PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO LOOK AT UGLY OLD SPOTTED PEOPLE - I'd say LOL but I don't think it's too funny

Debbi, I thought I was obsessive when I became so annoyed that I avoided this site. I'm glad that I thought to look in the blog section to see if I was alone....it is annoying and defeats the purpose of poetry..reading poetry is a solitary experience and the forced blaring commercials make it impossible for me to enjoy the artistic experience. Debbie, I totally agree with you, so annoying hearing someone talking, bells going off and flashing borders and I will add I hate those ads of fat bodies and spotted hands and faces on my beautiful poems, gosh can they not find better ads more suitable for a poetry site, but of course they will tell us the ads also help support the site and I am looking forward to your next challenge, is it posted yet??

Yes, although it is inconsistent . Sometimes the voice will come out of nowhere, unexpectedly, after I've already been on the site for awhile, and scare the bejeebers out of me! As if someone has walked into my house. Takes me a second to realize it's another dad-gum ad !!

This month I'm planning to bring our computers in for their annual check up at my favourite computer hospital place before they need a computer hospice place. Can we say funky? Thumb drive your poetry, peeps! And make hard copies! You never know. As far as ads go, TPS has openly stated they are in it for the money (this is a for profit site). I can't stand the brides for sale ads or the cartoon lust-bunnies on the side. But if the ads means the poets from Kenya get to post their poems without being paying members? I won't argue it. I don't get the audio, here, though??? Is it because I'm in Canada??? Sometimes, certain youtube videos say "Sorry. Not in your country?" No idea...

Yes, Debbie, I have the same problem. I cannot scroll up and down and stop where I want. I think it's a virus attached to the pop-up ad because when I run my virus program, the problem disappears for a while, but then returns. I also get a box in the upper left corner saying "Poetysoup wants to know your location" and two boxes below to click "allow" or "don't allow." I haven't clicked on either. TPS has not answered me on what this is about... ;( Has anyone seen that box too? Sandra

Yes, the box comes up at the bottom of my page stating that they are wanting permission to track my location..I think that is my Norton Virus protection tellng me that.. I have notified adminstration about this problem but have not heard from them..Sara

I can hardly comment on poems for the ad messes up that page when I am on my stationary computer..It does something to the page being able to move up and down as well as the noise and the movement..I have already sent a message to administration..I know that they probably need the ads to help pay or to pay for the site's storage and internet space, etc..It just seems that they could be more selective about what ads go on here..Sara

pop up? Viagra? What a funny play on words, Debs!!! I had to finally turn my audio off when I was here at Soup, but lately it has stopped happening to me. I wonder why I would get it really bad and other days not. Well, have a great new week, Debs!!

I'm ANNOYED and completely FRUSTRATED, Debbie! Even with the sound down, I'm unable to scroll up and down on the page while the audio ad is running. The ads freeze my page. Perhaps this is happening because I'm on a tablet? Not sure. I'll have to check it out on my pc.

Rhonda, if you are using an iPad, install the Apollo browser, which has a built-in ad blocker.

Install an ad blocker on your browser. I use AdBlock Plus. Or install a browser which comes with built-in ad blocking like Midori. You just have to enable it, I think. It's also very fast and runs well on older PC's.

The only thing we can do is turn off our sound! I'm busy writing away TRYING to think of words etc. not even ON Soup but the tab is up and the site is open & BINGO it goes yapping away about something and throughs my mind all off!
