I WAS ME

First I was me,

Selfish as can be,

Wanting everything from A to Z

And wanting it all for me.

Then I became we,

A part of an us.

I learned to share, give and take

I learned how to trust.

Next I was you,

Believe me it's true.

I would rather give than receive,

It was you I wanted to please.

Now I am them,

A family man.

Giving my children,

All that I can.

If you look real close,

It is easy to see,

I am older and wiser,

And no longer a me.

Strangers Helping Out - One Donation at a Time

Blog Posted by Joe Flach: 3/31/2014 11:23:00 AM
So, a few weeks back, I posted a blog about a “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” fund raising event that I am participating in in April. I used this as a theme for a contest that I would sponsor and as a shameless, self-promoting, call for contributions.

Well, one poet rose to the challenge and attempted to contribute to this cause by sponsoring me in the walk. The only problem was, however, she wanted to make this donation via Pay-Pal which is not a method supported by this particular charity. She asked me to find out how she could make this contribution that way, and I could not. So, I thanked her for the thought and said I would make the donation for her specified amount in her name and she could pay me back sometime later when the opportunity presented itself.

“Sometime later”, however, was not good enough for her, so she found a way to make a similar donation in my name with a Charity-Coupon that I could direct to another charity. I cashed in that coupon for a charity in her home country – different than my own.

So, two charities, on opposite sides of the world, benefited because of two complete strangers who happened to share a common love for poetry and had become vaguely familiar with each other through a special interest Internet website. I guess there is some good that can be achieved through this world of Social Networking.

Thank you, young lady, for helping me to help others. Your poetry has always moved me and now I know a little bit more about the good heart behind it.

Just thought I would share this with all of you.

I have not identified the poet, because I do not want to embarrass her if she does not wish to be recognized this way – but, I bet some of you can guess who she is.

Thank you to all who entered the contest for this theme – results will be posted shortly. Many of your poetic contributions have moved me, as well.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe! I think it's so wonderful whenever someone gets to inspire other people to do something, & acts as some sort of catalyst for others to help in their own way. We need more of these catalysts, and you are definitely one... What you are doing with your "Walk A Mile in Her Shoes" is an inspiration to others, I wish more people would support you :). And how beautiful and inspiring that you chose a cause in her home country, it truly is a win-win situation...I'm sure she is so touched with your choice, and so thankful with what you have inspired. Thank you so much for your blog, Joe, it truly made me smile and brightened up my visit here! :) I wish you the best of luck in walking in those heels, don't trip please!!
