I WAS ME

First I was me,

Selfish as can be,

Wanting everything from A to Z

And wanting it all for me.

Then I became we,

A part of an us.

I learned to share, give and take

I learned how to trust.

Next I was you,

Believe me it's true.

I would rather give than receive,

It was you I wanted to please.

Now I am them,

A family man.

Giving my children,

All that I can.

If you look real close,

It is easy to see,

I am older and wiser,

And no longer a me.

Walk A Mile in Her Shoes - Contest Winners Posted

Blog Posted by Joe Flach: 4/21/2014 12:32:00 PM
Once again, I thank all of you who entered this contest.  Many, very good poems did not make the winner's list.  In the end, I ranked the top 15 poems - as I see them.

If you entered this contest - whether on the winners list or not - and would like my personal, critical feedback on your entry - send me a Soup Mail and I will provide my feedback on your poem.

This was an interesting contest - one that subjected me to quite a number of hard to read poems - because of the subject matter, not because of the merits of the poem.  My next contest has got to be one of lighter and more humorous fare.

Thank you all once again.  And now, I am going to look at the winners list myself to see what names appear beside each poem.  This "reveal" is always fun for me.

P.S. - I will be walking a mile in her shoes this coming Friday, April 25.  Thanks for your support!

I think that is very cool of you to offer to critique someone elses poem in private like that. I am gonna do the same thing. no one else will read it, and so no embarrassing moments... very cool. Where do you draw the line tho? Meaning, how blunt? How soft... what would be a happy medium between the two?
