I WAS ME

First I was me,

Selfish as can be,

Wanting everything from A to Z

And wanting it all for me.

Then I became we,

A part of an us.

I learned to share, give and take

I learned how to trust.

Next I was you,

Believe me it's true.

I would rather give than receive,

It was you I wanted to please.

Now I am them,

A family man.

Giving my children,

All that I can.

If you look real close,

It is easy to see,

I am older and wiser,

And no longer a me.

A Short Story

Blog Posted by Joe Flach: 1/7/2016 7:38:00 PM

Hello Poets and Friends,

I have a short story that I have written and wish to share with my friends here at PoetrySoup.  I tried to post the story here, but it does contain profanity - although I don't think the story is profane - and the offensive word actually is a key ingredient in the story - even suggested in the title.  PS didn't allow the post to go through - either because of that word or because the posting is too long - I am not sure what prevented it from posting it simply did not take with no explanation provided.  If I broke PS rules - I apologize.

Any way, I am providing a link to the Short Story on my Blog Page if you wish to take a peek.  Please do not go there if profanity offends you - although, like I said, I think the story is rather tame, it just happens to include a word that might upset some readers.

Thanks.

P.S. - It's nice to be back here on PS.

I think it is shameful that a short story with one profane word can't get through. Meanwhile, the lewd poetry that PD let everyone know about today is able to stay standing for a long time. It is simply ridiculous. Why don't you just blank out the word and put a footnote telling people to see your comment below, and then under your poems where comments go, write the offending word and let folks know why you had to do it that way!!

Yeah, it's a tough one, Andrea. Profanity, I think, is in the eye of the beholder. If you find something profane or offensive, I think, you just move along. I'm not sure how I feel about people taking action to remove it though. If it is trash it will be ignored. Once you start screaming about trash it only brings around others curious to see what all the fuss is about. Besides, my profanity meter might be set different than others. Funny how simple words can have such powerful impact.

Joe that story should be published in a short story book ...I was gripped from start to finish! - the profanity is an integral part of the story and I thought the story was stunning:-) hugs Jan xx
