I just returned from a most enjoyable sporting event. I watched young athletes play for the love of the game. Williamsport, Pa. hosts the Little League World Series each August. Parking is free unless you want to park on someone's property, Food prices are more than reasonable and the atmosphere is fantastic. The games themselves are free and they usually pass a cup around for donations. The best part is the kids. Sixteen different nations playing, cheering, shaking hands, This is hands down better than watching a professional business whose "employees" are paid so much that our government decides the taxpayer should build them a "workplace." Another thought passed through my mind (short trip). How about changing the laws so you have to be under 13 to run for office. I watched these kids give it everything they got and win or lose still display sportsmanship seldom seen in the pros. Wouldn't it make more sense to support local kids organizations by attendance and forget the major businesses whose "employees" make from three to thirty million dollars a year then have to hire lawyers, if they do something right once in a while, to renegotiate their inflated contracts. The same people who are cheering the yankee (20 errors) third basemen for his 30 million are the same ones screaming because teachers want their medical coverage intact and paid for. If they were pro athletes, no one woul question it. Anyway, peewee football starts in a few weeks. Guess I'll be attending some more "sporting" events.
