Oldest of five brothers, I was the one who got away with everything. Spent thirty years as a Navy Reservist. People say I'm a little crazy. Thank God, normal people lead mundane lives. My greatest love is kids and I spend weekends working with abused kids with psychiatric problems almost always created by adult animals. I like music, mostly country and early rock. Married for forty years (my wife will be given the Medal of Honor) and have four kids, a 36 and 35 year old and two 23 year olds. The twins are a boy and girl. Including me, my wife has five. Got 5 grand kids. I'm big on amusement parks and would work for Mickey and Donald any day. I've seen a lot of the world (14 countries) and definitely miss the travelling with the Navy. I'm a firm believer in the power of prayer. I love this planet, so I'm going to stay awhile. I do believe war could be a necessity only in defense of your country and not as an excuse to prospect for oil. I believe that if there is any honesty or integrity in Washington, the guy is in the wrong city. People I most admire include Jimmy Carter, JFK and Billly Graham. I'm pro-life and anti- political correctness. I think the problem with political jokes is that most of them get elected.

February Made me Shiver

<P>"February made me shiver, with every paper I delivered. Bad news on the doorstep, I couldn't take one more step." Don McLean-- It's hard to believe it's been fifty years since the death of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper hit the morning news. I still play their music and I still hear remakes of some that Buddy Holly wrote. Ritchie Valens was only seventeen and Buddy Holly had been recently married. God knows I still love the Big Bopper starting "Oh Baby, you know what I like." As for Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly. if I live to be 200, I'll still be popping their music on. Rave on guys.</P> <P>&nbsp;</P>

Man's body may die and go back to the earth, but like their soul, of which music is an expresion of, it lives on. May their words and melodies live on forever. Michael

So, were you reading the book of Marx while Lennon was practicing in the park the day the music died, Vince? Then you must have been eating a lot of American Pies! Nice to be reminded of that Don McLean classic, which was more a history of rock and roll. Such was Buddy Holly's influence that other great artists after him were singing his songs: The Beatles (Words Of Love), Peter & Gordon (True Love Ways), Don McLean (Everyday), Linda Ronstadt (It's So Easy) and others. Boy, if only I had the talent I'd do a remake of Peggy Sue at no time at all. Too bad such a talent died young. Fred

Your poems, your memories, mirror my own in many ways....that era was so special....nothing will ever match it! The music, the times....hope you will keep bringing them back in your poetry. Those old 45s ........ I'd rather be listening to that old phonograph than anything else. Music to my ears! ~ Sincerely, Carrie
