Me? I’ll talk to anyone

Blog Posted by Terry Flood: 6/30/2022 1:10:00 PM

I've Just inadvertently presssed something and was taken to a screen showing Soupers that I had blocked. I must point out that I have  never deliberately blocked anyone on soup and I have now unblocked those concerned. Apologies if you were one of those. Terry

Whew, glad to know I don't have any blocked poets, but that muse sure can be a stuck-up snob from time to time. Thanks for the info!

Terry, that block button is just too easy to touch without meaning too, I now check that page often for errors like that, I actually have no one blocked, blessings ~Constance

You’re not kidding, Constance. I’m looking at that eyeball now and accidentally brushing it with a knuckle seems pretty well odds on to me. Terry

I too have accidentally blocked poets and have had it done to me and you can't speak to the poet direct as you're blocked, you have to ask someone else to contact them. About once a week I do what John suggested and check blocked poets. The block icon needs to be moved I think. Tom

Two of those I had accidentally blocked would ordinarily comment on my poems quite regularly then suddenly never. I almost thought my account had been hacked and some imposter has upset them. Glad it’s all sorted now.

Thank you, Terry, for making me aware of this. I didn't know that touching the eyeball would block a poet. I checked and didn't have any poets blocked. But it's good to know going forward. Cheers!

Something like the general prohibition sign, a red circle with a 45-degree diagonal line inside the circle, might work better. Just sayin’ … :)

Problem solved it seems, Mark. I’ve always had a dislike of seemingly meaningless symbols…. And this validates that view. I mean… an eyeball? I would have thought that meant something like ‘view poems’ or ‘view profile’. Anyway, I for one, am now better informed. Glad I raised the issue. Terry

It's easy to do. Every time we receive a comment there is a little eyeball icon next to the comment which will block that poet. It's a good idea every few months to go to Member Home > My Blocked Poets to see who is on that list and remove names we didn't intend to block. Thanks for the post, Terry.

Thanks, John. I wondered what the eyeball did… strange choice of icon: what’s wrong with an X or a little axe? It would appear that you’ve solved my conundrum. Thanks for that. Terry

oh my, that must have really surprised you. I checked blocking list once and it was still the few crazy people who had actually threatened me in Soupmails. Sometimes you come across real crazies , even in a place as nice as Soup.

Hi, Andrea. Seems the explanation is at hand. John (above) has pointed out that the little eyeball blocks the poet. As I tend to use an iPad I guess it’s easy to miss-tap. Must take more care. Terry

Opened the Flood gates did you? Sorry...I couldn't help it Terry lol, stuck in the house with a seven year old all day. Same thing happened to me years ago. There were four or five people on my blocked list but I had never blocked anyone. I have nothing against someone who feels the need to block another. Just too easy to ignore people online for me ;)

I don’t even know what I pressed to get that screen up. Strangely, FJ, only a few days ago I wondered why I never heard from certain members anymore. As you might guess… they were on that list.

Take that back, I did block one temporarily until he calmed down. But that's only because he was harassing people on my poems and in my blogs; and I will not allow that.
