Well, I agree that it is not user friendly for me, but I am old and don't like change. Sara K

As AI and therefore also bots can't see pictures, it should not make all that much of a difference - same goes for the pic gallery. Does it have an impact on how visitors interact with the site? Only TPS could answer that.

@Tom: We have NEW lineup of members in the gallery section ;)

Mmmmmmmmmm ... maybe get a pie chart with who reads what; who does what and when (time frames); preferred destiny (from visitors), etc BUT the sock puppets might skew the results. lol I give up thinking on how to engage - other than "That is nice..." ;-)

Month in month out ... Tom, in the past, it made sense as people might click on the photos and sample the work that way. Visitors are potential members - potential members are possible regular readers. Funny that no new members participate in discussions. We have become invisible - no longer the clickbait.

How about we have POTD selectees moved off roster for a designated time so that they are only eligible for (say) once per annum? There doesn’t seem to be any vetting of the poems that actually win or are posted as POTD, and almost certainly not by a human being. This is perhaps another use of AI, the application seems to be to the disadvantage of the human poet as a human poet. Supposedly there are 30,000 human poets on poetry soup and they should be able to be weighed on their merits for their particular application of the POTD selection. It appears to me that all of your ideas in the “what do you think about this”category are always enlightening and always challenged.

Terry, I have not experienced any problem with the new set up after I got used to it, its the same stuff in different places. What I don't like is this thing on the Home page, did you see it Terry, TPS congratulating some recent First place contest winners, well I got several First place wins recently, where is my public TPS congratulations ? I guess they meant well but it was a bit insulting, in my opinion.

Well, I think just congratulating Premiere Contest winners on the Home page and contest page is not right, Standard contests are part of this site, and should be acknowledged also.

Suzette, maybe you are right . I went to check. I think it's at least a few days behind right now if names are falling off in real time.
Dietrich Avatar

I was never on it in real time that I know of . Maybe it just got past me. I never even noticed it until s few days ago

@Andrea. The list of Premier winners is also featured at the top of the contest page. This is real time - updated as the new ones are at the top and the last ones on the list fall away. There is still the contest winners under "Site Links" for those who are interested in an in-depth list.

I noticed that too. Maybe it works like the 100 best new poems list, which I notice is on a really delayed time frane . And of course, it will only show Premier winners. They should include ALL Premier first places per each week.

Hi Constance. My guess is that TPS is playing it safe as the Premier contests only has one winner (1st place) each. A nice new addition at a quick glance.

It's not just you. I am not liking the new changes. It seems to be more work to navigate around the site. I liked the way the site looked before the changes as well.

@Rob, thank you. I'm taking a bow. Hmm, electric blankets. I'm not expecting a blizzard just yet.

Brandy - excellent - way to spin a mic drop off my comment. This is the spirit of community! Tom, we are doomed (at least once) by sin, but certain devices may help. They say the radiation is non-ionized, so it is safe, but they also once said that Agent Orange was safe. Maybe add electric blankets to the list.

Smiling @ Rob, of course Keith gets up to change the channel. It's the only exercise he gets these days. * Mic Drop *

Easy Tom, of course Keith has color televisions, it's the remotes he refuses to use - still gets up every time to change the channel. Also, Charlotte is right & I would also add microwave ovens to the list.

And I don’t like phones that listen in to my conversations and talk back to me. Someone called Siri keeps remonstrating with me. I don’t know how she got my number.

When I was little more than a kid, a radio show had a daily contest to win a phoneless chord… it wasn’t an error… if you won, you won a piece of rope!

i have a corded landline, it's a talking point whenever anyone visits the house lol i won't use smartphones cos they emit a lot of radiation

For two reasons, I don't like it as much. Most importantly, I am unable to navigate my contest area like I used to on my phone. I can adjust to everything else. But that one and also not being able to navigate my poetry pages as easily. I guess some people don't care about the same things that are important to me. I can adjust to new things, but not if they are things that simply don't work by cell phone.
Dietrich Avatar

I don't care about expensive cell phones and being up to date. I liked my older phones just fine and then they made it impossible for me to keep them by getting rid of them. If they perform their basic functions in texting, at FB and at Soup, that's all I carr about.

Maybe a phone with a larger screen would make a difference? The Galaxy Z Fold7 w/ 1 TB is only $2419.99

I think the most irksome thing is that profile picture… it’s become entirely pointless and demonstrates that the effects of these updates were insufficiently tested/explored

So far, I have liked the changes. It reminds me of how I have my browser organized with folders in the favorite bar. It seems I am in the minority with this one, as I was with liking the now walked back new Cracker Barrel logo.

Keith - I was so surprised that Tom listened to and liked Bugz, that I totally forgot about the mic drop. I hope TPS considers adding this to future changes.

It's not just you, the old format with everything on the left was so much easier to navigate, now if you click on something, you have to keep going back and forth to site links

The older we get, the harder it is to adjust. Frankly, we "old people" don't like to change, but change can be good. There are many benefits to the changes. In fact, adapting as you get older is good for the brain.

But why make impossible a few things I used to be able to navigate by phone, such as my contest entry pages?
Puddifoot Avatar

change is very difficult and upsetting for people on the autistic spectrum, and also for people with certain mental health conditions, please bear that in mind

It's not ' just you ' Terry. I am learning and adjusting, but find the changes a bit much. ALL at ONCE. One thing at a time, sometimes is needed. That's just me and my simple thinking. :P

I did data entry, typing and other on computers prior to the PC hitting the scene so I've experienced computer changes for decades. I promise you it's just a matter of adjusting / learning. Didn't you find the site a bit confusing when you first joined, but you learned? It's my hope you'll find encouragement from my comments and hang in there. AND, as I'm sure you know, the only thing consistent in life is change. I hope you don't give up. CayCay
