Welcome to my page!

I am a man of many interests - TOO many, I think, lol - and because of that I never gave writing the attention I should have when I was young. I started writing poetry in December of 2016, and joined Poetry Soup at the same time. I am currently working on an R&B/Soul album for a major label, so, as has usually been the case, poetry does not get the time I'd like to give it, (though I plan to change that in the future, and write a book-or-two, a sci-fi novel and an autobiography) ...

I like to incorporate classic styles and phrasing into a modern frame when I write poetry, and try to cover a wide range of genres, but I enjoy the darkly sensual the most, despite its limited audience. I hope you'll give my rather unusual style a chance, read a piece-or-two, and leave a comment, if you'd be so kind. My Dearest Fellow Soupers -

Thank you all SO much for the extraordinary work presented for this contest ... there were only TWO disqualifications, and those were not Rubaiyats or anything close. The top three were set above the rest, but not by much, and the remaining thirty entries were all wonderful, so PLEASE do not be discouraged if you didn't place, as again, very little separated them, and all were a joy to read in one aspect or another ...

Those placed lower may have been because of rhythm, as Rubaiyats have set meter throughout, (though I allowed for poet's discretion as to the type or length of meter), or it may have been a number of other small differences like grammar or spelling, (I do NOT take off for presentation or punctuation). But what a fantastic group of poems - my best entries yet! For that reason it was VERY difficult to judge, as "premiere" contests only allow for TEN placements ...

I do premieres every-so-often just to balance it out, but cutting twenty-three poems that you enjoy, (after the DQ's), is torture. Thank you for your patience as well, as I have been deathly ill and missed Thanksgiving, but I am hopefully on the mend, (tests coming). I pray your holiday was a bounty of blessings and love, and I thank you for entering - please watch for my next contest, and have a Merry Christmas! :-) <3

Thank you for another fine, inspiring contest, Greg. I enjoyed writing for it, and I am so honored to be on your winner's list. For sure it must be difficult to narrow down to just ten winners when we have so many talented and skilled poets here that participated. My sincere congratulations to all!

Greg, I enjoyed your blog and my win as well. Thanks and my congrats to your winners. I adore dog days!!! Don't put yourself through the torture. Do the other type of contest. I will never do a premiere again after the torture it gave me when I tried it. Will do a standard Xmas contest soon!

I totally disagree, if you can't or choose not to place the entries based on your rules and judgement you shouldn't even run a contest, because it is otherwise not a contest... if everyone gets a "participation" trophy it is a joke not a contest.
