Premium MemberNobble Wobble

The cry of the turkey's gobble
left me in a cranky nobble
	so I could fall sleep
	no sound should he peep
stupefied, my head did wobble

armed with a hatchet in my hand
hoping a final blow to land
	he ran, zigged and zagged
	he dodged, jigged and jagged
I could not land the chop I planned

when at last my greatest chance came
though red-eyed, I took deadly aim
	my aim was way off
	the turkey did scoff
this Thanksgiving was turning lame

no turkey please, I’ll just abstain
my determination did wane
	sleep overrated
	ego deflated
bird became perpetual bane

Call Me Zebra

The hot savannah in late September
Too far back to quite remember
Born in plains surrounded by the sands
An oasis of the treeless woodlands
To be uniquely chic I always tried
Yet it never showed on my solid hide

One day hiding from cheetahs in tall grass
With my stubborn cousin, (he’s an ass)
I noticed our complete lack of camouflage
And sparked an idea fleeing their barrage
We zig-zagged an escape from jaws and paws
And set to work on my mono-color flaws
Happily braying proud a-ha’s from my pipes
I trotted around showing off new painted stripes
Blending in reeds better than a horse
Looking suave and stylish too, of course

Jealous mammals barely keep control
When I strut my stuff at the watering hole
Drooling and licking lips in envy
Carnivores can’t keep their eyes off me

So to boring old coats, hasta la vista
Now I’m a savvy equine fashionista
Savannah’s newly striped and charming Libra
Hey lion’s and hyena’s, you can call me Zebra
*Wink*
*Sassy mane toss*
…..*RUUUN!

Premium MemberMusk Ox

A musk ox was beloved.
Until it busted out of its bird cage.
Shape shifted into the wind...
Open tundra (harsh as it is)
never tasted so good...
but right on cue the wolves moveD on in.

This musk ox wasn't like the rest.
It refused to retreat into a circle.
It zig zagged, would turn on a dime
Gleefully faced the fascists head on.
Much to their chagrin- their blood ran red.

This musk ox never kills, it only maims.
In the name of truth.
The brains of the pack became its eternal playground.
This musk ox never rests.
It's an animal of wisdom and calm.
Marbled with outbursts of playfulness.
It runs on electricity and a pinch of God's barbiturates.

Premium MemberSaber Jet Misadventure

Folded as neatly as any origami piece
I fashioned my saber-jet flight ready
And aimed it at my third-grade squeeze
When the teacher said, “Milton, please!”

Unfortunately, missing my target, darn,
It zig-zagged far to the left, then steady
Flew right into the window aquarium
When the teacher said, “Milton, please!”

Retrieving my water-saturated missile
Which was dripping fuel onto the floor
I was petrified by my apparent disgrace
When the teacher said, “Milton, please!”

Creeping back to my seat in disgrace
While expecting, as a result, the worst
In my effort my sweetheart to appease
When the teacher said, “Milton, please!”

A Worgleschnortzkopf Tale Warm Breath of Life

Under the hedges the ground was still like a frozen brick,

Cracks zig zagged over the surface leaving gaps,

Where old Jacomus in his wild dance,

Would whirl and freeze as if in a trance,

Robins and Thrushes vainly search for grains and grubs,

Along with the scampering long tailed mouse,

His whiskers a twitching sensing out a louse,

Badgers warm and snug in their deep setts,

Foxes scream and call in the forest deep,

Pheasants shuffle in gamekeepers keep.

A rattle in bleak blangk twigs and branches,

A lady in white on her unicorn prances,

Breathing warm air from between ruby red lips,

Softening the earth making it fertile again,

Where plants and bushes will start to awaken,

The joy of rebirth and beginings anew once more.

Premium MemberMy Heart Glows-

Sometimes my heart glows
 like a beacon it shows
 shining brightly through
the night and also in daytime it close
 it strikes a shining pose
 it's strikes like lightning shows
Like zagged ridges rolls
between towing down like running waters
from the stars to the ground
Sunshine sun flows
Moonlight nights as my heart glows

Prints of Daffodils

The bed covers grew longer and longer.
As the continuous thread was fed,
from the spindle to the spools unwinding and rewinding,
from spool to spool twisting and weaving its threads,
through the eyes of the needles,
and into stitches of rows that zigged zagged,
In alternating colors of yellows, blues, and reds,
with prints of daffodils across the covered beds.

Premium MemberHe Danced Irish Jigs

There was a quick wit who needed a gig
When his jokes fell flat, he danced Irish jigs
But one night he was so drunk
He kicked up a breeze that stunk
It seems 'quick-wit' zagged when he should have zigged

Premium MemberWoodland Walks

the footpaths that stretched
out of sight until never

the parched ground and grasses
when miles seemed forever

wild garlic, the nettles
the heat and the heather

the flies that would zizzzz
past our ears to wherever

the bees in the foxgloves
collecting their treasure

the midges that danced
in a group all together

the butterflies that zigged
and then zagged for good measure

the dandelions drifting
on the air at life's leisure

the long lost hot summers
full of fun love and pleasure

 - I remember those walks

and the woods

and that weather.

Biblical

The skies turned dark, the thunder boomed
And lightning zagged above,
A prelude to a celebration
Of two souls in love.

The hail poured down and bounced around
And sparkled on the grass.
We huddled in the portico
In hopes that it would pass.

While meantime, paramedics,
Several out of shape, raced past
As rumors of a passing started
Circulating fast.

The clouds dispersed, the sun returned
And all the wet was dried
In preparation for the vows
Of glowing groom and bride.

We cheered and clapped and had a toast;
The bandmates entertained.
We ate and drank and soon forgot
That it had even rained.

But speculations proved correct;
A body had been found
And while we partied, in a van
The coroner came 'round.

The newlyweds, oblivious,
Began their lives as one
While yards away, a stranger's time
On earth was, sadly, done.

The day was surely biblical,
For streaming from above
Were darkness, hail and even death,
But all eclipsed by love.

Premium MemberThe Dandy of Lions

Cousin of the daisy, and born on summer's breeze,
It becomes a bright seedling of pale, green leaves.
In sunshine, it grows, as its edges become jagged,
Like a shooting star whose course goes zig-zagged!

Maturity brings longer leaves that spread around,
And milky roots that sink deeply into the ground.
When by some mystery calendar, at uncertain hour,
A lovely, yellow bloom captures you in its power!

The flower at last becomes a small, brown fruit,
For another generation is in summertime pursuit;
And the pappus disperses new seeds to the breeze,
To grow in foreign meadows and sunlit valleys!

Picture Perfect

The jagged edges

of her brokenness

fit the zig-zagged

lines of all the times

I fell and was

made whole again

My puzzle's

missing piece

Picture perfect

iodine on a scraped

knee, a sensation

captured by a gentle

breeze, sometimes

love is nothing

more than pain

being replaced

by a beautiful scar;

if you trace the

lines across

porcelain faces

do the cracks

in the facade

feel fantastical

or real?

Hard to believe

her jagged edges

and my zig-zagged

lines could from

such a beautiful

rendition of all the things

I was missing

Sailing Through

Life
sails through
the blind turns
zig-zagged all-through;
Surprises surfaced -
Dimensions of truth changed
Mind's vision got clearer
with the cataracts of eyes
Let the inner light guide you through
this abyssal depth of life's ocean
Let wisdom accompany the voyage...

Grandson

You are the newest thread
in the tapestry of my life -
once neatly-patterned,
but now criss-crossed
and sig-zagged
with the vibrant strands
of your sister.

You, too, will be interwoven
into the fabric of my life
and be interlaced through
its brightness and hues
and be intricately entwined
and securely knotted
with one golden thread -
Love.

The Purple and White Zig Zagged Kite

It was 4:04, late in the afternoon,
My mom shouted, honey please come in soon.
There was supposedly a storm nearby that was pretty heavy,
Little did I know that it was just beyond that brand new Chevy.
Before I knew it, the storm hit the Jones’s home,
The storm was just starting its long and deadly roam.
The kite’s zig zag pattern resembled the lightning in the sky,
When it was suddenly struck down I just had to wonder why.
As I looked at the remains of a once beautifully crafted kite,
I felt the ruined gift given to me by my cancer-struck grandmother, Jane Louise Wright.
I thanked God in that instant that the lightning didn’t strike me flat,
Throughout the darkened town, raindrops fell with a splat.
Later the next day I kneeled by the 46 year old barn,
Then buried the remains along with the yarn.

Thank you to Carol Brown for starting my journey off with such positive words.
