Blood of my blood and bone of my bone

Premium MemberHopping a Freight Train in Wheeling

The freight train puffs a veil of smoke into the night.
The iron rails rumble.
Be still.
Now.
There it is, the engine's call, fading
To the distance.
Between shadows, a lean figure grips tight to the rolling steel,
His pack worn low on his back, and now he's gone
Wholly, into the night.
I stand alone by the coal yard, I do not dare speak
Or move.
I listen.
The train bends away into its own darkness,
And I lean toward mine.

In Honor of Milt

Backhanded Apology
Copyright © L MILTON HANKINS | Year Posted 2022

Sorry if I upset you,
I really didn’t mean it
Actually, I meant it
Until I saw it upset you,
Now I’m sorry you are
Upset by my words
But I got them said,
Which I intended to do.

L. Milton always impressed me with his sly humor amidst mostly very deep, spiritual thoughts. “Backhanded Apology” is one of his well-read pieces at 742 views. This apology is perfect for a very public person who is subject to personal remarks which could be double entendre at the outset. Milt was a fine person, likewise an excellent poet whose comments on my work were always positive and supportive. A Kentucky bluegrass native myself, I applaud his choice of retirement residency in Ashland; it is close to his roots in WV. We will all miss him at Poetry Soup.

Premium MemberThe Hot Seat

Being in the hot seat
Is second nature to me
I’ve always thought it neat,
Being in the hot seat
‘Tis not always so sweet
Expressing opinion, you see,
Being in the hot seat
Is second nature to me.

Brosnian

Broken wings don't fly
Stone doesn't weep for thy,
Only the decayed understand
The way of life leads to the dead,
It isn't a boring vicissitude
Vapidly crumbling transitorily from the crude
Ways of men and the history of their brooding
Under the bridges of trolls dueling,
Instead, taking up the mantel of peace
Sprung from the falling of pieces.

brosnian1 [] wv/t2 to crumble, decay, fall to pieces, rot, wither, be corrupted

Friday Night Bible Study

Hope everyone had a great weekend!! This week, we plan on meeting (11 May 2018) and will continue our study with John 2:1-12. As you read John’s account of Jesus’ first miracle: changing water into wine, focus on who is involved in this first miracle and develop an understanding of why this miracle is recorded by John. Review any cross references in your Bible to develop a better understanding of the scripture’s meaning.

As you read, make some notes related to these questions:
• What does this scripture tell us about Christ?
• What does it say about man?
• How can I use this scripture to be more like Christ and do the will of God?

Enjoy the week and we’ll see you on Friday, 11 May @ 6:30 PM. Clifford and Mary, have fun at the graduation; we’ll be thinking of you all! Clifford, hope all is going well in WV. Take care and drive safe.

Don, Marsha and Jim: we have all of you in our prayers as well!

He Was

HE WAS

He was one of those Splendor In The Grass
  Forgetless- heart filled days of glory;
His spirit on white puffy cloud-
Sun- cloned Lewisburg, WV, fast water

Heaven skipped the top rocks as surely,
As never had my heart longed so deeply,
Nor spirit wind felt so beguilingly sweet,
     Whipping the earth's face clearer-dearer

His arms bound our soul-gathered beings'
  Invisible cry;
Whilst the brilliant sky so high
        TOLD THIS STORY: YEP,

THIS GIRLS IN LOVE WITH THE BOY!

 bettyburdette 2016

The first time I knew I loved my husband, we were
up on Greenbrier River across Low Water Bridge, WV.
He was so silently intent on the river, sky, and the
beautiful clearer than clear water. His spirit was
sculpting while I fell through space as only a teen can.
That is what the poem is about, AND

To You, My Only Love --- Gone to Be With THE LOVER OF
OUR SOULS, on this 2016 EASTER---HAPPY EASTER TO YOU..
