She wanted to pick mushroom
on an autumnal eve -
choose the best for breakfast.
I like to add a little oyster sauce,
or Worcestershire sauce,
she likes them with garlic.
I take with us,
my trusty book of edible mushrooms,
the kind that don't kill you.
Page missing.
Glad to report we are alive.
We had Imodium for breakfast.

Mushrooms push up their caps
in a cow meadow.
The bovine dung adds that umami taste,
it's the Glutamate, that relishes and beguiles.
The cows don't eat the button mushrooms,
but as they graze, they may scoop some
into their contently chewing mouths.
I think these thoughts in a steak restaurant,
while adding Worcestershire sauce to my oxtail soup.
Mushroom will be arriving on this white linen
tablecloth
soon.

The secret for great flavor
in a baked cherry pie
Add a little almond extract
for the taste that will happily surprise
For dull tasteless vegetables
like cabbage and green beans
Add a little bacon grease
watch the kids lick their plate clean
For tender succulent beef
every Chinese chef knows
Mix the beef with baking soda
become a stir fry hero
Sauces to bland slow down
simmer that sauce for a taste profound
Slow and easy a little sugar will do
cook extra for second helpings too
Need some flavor oomph
in meats gravies and stews
A good shake of Worcestershire sauce
your taste buds will woo
Add the old stand by for any plan dishes
pour on the ketchup make it delicious
But the true secret ingredient every cook knows
a little love adds the flavor that makes your kitchen glow.

She made cauliflower with cheese.
It was her signature dish.
She made me want it every day.
The aroma must have been an aphrodisiac,
but then again
you don't need to be led to the table
at age twenty.
Sometimes we made cheese and toast
with Worcestershire sauce,
a snack to keep our strength up.
We really did burn through a lot of
useful calories.

Because I want the crust to gently flake,
I cut in frozen butter to make crumbs.
I'll wash the shell with egg before I bake;
you'll note how delicate the crust becomes.
I fill the egg-washed shell with chunks of meat,
potatoes, carrots, onions and some peas.
Of course no proper sav'ry pie's complete
without some Worcestershire and grated cheese.
I add those to a gravy for the sauce.
then pour it gently so as not to spill.
Next, cover it with pastry strips, criss-cross--
a lattice showing off my baking skill.
And, finally, some foil wrapping 'round
so that the edges won't become too browned.

Claire was born disabled, no left forearm,
And at school hid it well under her jumpers,
But swimming let her accept, love her body,
Such that today she’s a swimming medalist.
Born in Redditch in Worcestershire county,
Which is in the north-east of fine England,
On the 21st day of May’s month in 1988,
From Leeds she has a linguistics degree.
Her biggest medal haul was London 2012
Where she won two very beauteous silvers,
One for the 100 metres breaststroke SB8,
And one for the medley. And a bronze free.
In the Athens Paralympics she won bronzes,
One for the 100m S9 back, one for the medley,
And in Beijing she took home another bronze,
For the breaststroke this time, the 100 metres.
In 2016 at the Euros in Portugal she won gold,
For the 4x100m medley relay, also two bronzes,
One for the 100m butterfly, another for breast,
Which took her to Rio 100m breaststroke silver.

Salt a mess of fresh blue crabs
Steamed in a beer broth,
with onions and Old Bay spice.
Mix vinegar with
Worcestershire sauce.
Pick, dip, eat.
Treat!
note: Have plenty of cold beer and paper towels on hand!
