When In Rome

No pease porridge for me if you please
neither hot nor cold
especially not if what's in the pot
is nine days old
for when in Parma Palermo or Pisa
(no pottage slop)
I'm predisposed and have the propensity
to pour a potent potable
(pink plonk)
and prefer to partake of a piece of pepperoni pizza
with pancetta pomodoro peperoncini
porcini plus a peck of pecorino on the top
even the penchant for a piccante prosciutto panini
or pass me a plate of penne puttanesca
with the proclivity for a platter of pinoli pesto
possibly pasta with parmesan
and I'm pleased to wine and dine al fresco

Do what the Romans do,
Do what, to who.
If you are on holiday in Rome,
A long way from home,
Embrace their culture.
And leave all else alone.

You will enjoy your visit more,
When you find out what's in store.
Opportunities abound,
In this foreign land.
Do what the Romans do,
Explore and relish all that's new.

Look and learn as you explore,
People and situations you have not seen before.
Don't make comparisons when you are in Rome.
Do what the Romans do,
Or stay at home.

When In Rome

Science is religion, in a fireproof beaker.

And so vice versa, chirps the paradise seeker.

Premium Member 'when In Rome Do As the Romans Do' - Unless You Are Ron Dump

Just how does this lunatic tick
He gawps looking stupid and thick
then does acts to demean -
Put his mitts on our Queen
Ron Dump is an ignorant ????? !

He bypasses royal protocol
Treats our Queen like an old Barbie Doll
He walks in front of her
Like a fat mangy cur -
Show decorum, you nasty old troll!

* insert  suitable ending

Ron Dump was seen to put his arm behind the Queen's back at a royal dinner
It’s not the first time he’s broken royal protocol this time by by touching the Queen and on his previous visit he walked in front of her and also on separate occasion he kept her waiting for over ten minutes ... it just isn’t done!

When In Rome

A free afternoon
So we heeded advice.
We strolled by the river;
The streets did entice.

We wandered down alleys
In neighborhoods where
Unexpectedly, ruins
Cropped up here and there.

To keep us from flagging,
I turned to gelato.
My spouse had espresso -
He liked it a lotto.

But when we were ready
To hit the hotel,
We vetoed a taxi,
For back where we dwell...

We travel by subway,
By foot or by bus.
It's quick and it's cheap,
Which of course is a plus.

Yet we're tourists and don't
Know the routes, like at home
But we figured - we'll ask.
After all, when in Rome...

So we purchased two tickets
And made our way back
By bus and by subway;
The code we did crack...

With the help of some locals,
For at every station
Were "Grazies"* and smiles,
Which don't need a translation.

*thank you in Italian
