Gaza Sonnet
A doctor`s house with two daughters came under artillery fire
while he who worked at the hospital in Gaza
Trying to save life after yet another Israeli attack, lost both
His children, the military late apologized.
After the funeral, the good doctor did not seek help for his
Immense suffering , but carried on working while
grief unburdened was eating him up.
One day he went to the beach the sea was calm and blue
He undressed and began swimming he had to get away
A strong swimmer he swam long before an Israeli gunboat
blew him out of the water, red turned to pink and then
ack to calming azure as the warped thinking of the occupiers
said go he should have sought psychological help
For sorrow so deep that no well-meaning words suffice

My well-meaning doctor said
my brain is close to dead.
Lay off meats and fats, he said,
eat fish, all you want, instead.
Fish is high in omega-3,
great for rebooting mind deficiency.
But, doctor, said I skeptically,
how has that helped any fish one jot,
they still get hooked do they not? –
Not too smart, if you ask me.

There are people who take what they want
pez dispensers of pain and suffering
gleaning never planting
rapists of confidence
of fresh air...
staining the soul of everything
tumors in the marrow of society.
They are small glimpses into hell
professional complainers and oppressors
Bachelor's degree in deflection
PHD'S in blame.
There are people who only take what they need
giving the rest away to those in need
Calm waters, splintering calibers of decay
They are small windows into heaven
Bachelor's degree in responsibility and reason.
PHDs in fathomless faith.
The well-meaning try to fix evil with bleeding hearts...
evil thinks they're tools-plays them for fools
to be used for evil endeavors
evil can never be fixed
if evil isn't acting out
it is plotting its next twisted step,
fashioning pentagrams,
dreaming in hues of death.
Evil must be crushed into oblivion
at least hobbled and entombed in led
The trend is to coddle and pacify-
It festers from irritating blemish to
incurable disease and endless menace.

Forget about it
Don’t think about it
It’s not important
Put it out of your mind
Things I have been told
Advice for the lovelorn
The bereaved
The broken hearted
The lonely
Your love has gone away forever
They have left you behind
They have stopped you in your tracks
Well meaning friends
Want you to forget them
Get on with your life
But the hole in your heart
Is too big to fill
With sympathies

2015 and years thereafter
The year of two thousand and fifteen,
has not been a good year for world peace.
Brotherhood of Man. I despair of our
lack of empathy with children killed by
Well-meaning
Bombs dropped by nations
Those who look for peace through violence.
I recall from history books a king named
Croesus, everything he touched turned into
gold, and he died amidst plenty.
State-sponsored violence spawns terror and
And newer versions of ISIS will not go away,
And we cannot understand that there will be
no peace before the whole world is a ruin if
We do not come to our senses and stop feeding
terror`s voracious appetite.

Smiling and laughing,
But the joy is lacking.
I’m going through the motion,
But devoid of emotion.
Where do I go from here,
Since you are no longer near?
How do I find meaning again,
When I feel so much pain?
I barely feel alive,
And I’m looking for the drive
To master this world called life.
Do you have any advice?
Whisper in my ear,
Or, please do appear.
I want to see your human form
As I brave the biggest storm.
So many wasted moments;
All that’s left are well-meaning condolences.
How can the world keep on turning
When its brightest light is no longer burning?
The sky may be blue,
But gray is all I see without you.

As the sun rose the darkness wept
As it set it crept back into that darkness
An old wolf wondered
“what really happened?”
“had he been raised
…by humans!!”
He could not return to the den
For he was a “self-cast” outcast
Uncomfortable with “wolf” ways
Oh, he howled
But not at the moon
He howled at the wind
For it had no past
Existed only here….now
Growled at the hawk’s shadow
Envious of its flight
He had been “rescued”
By the “well meaning”
“Tamed” by a wire fence
Fed by a non-feral hand
Escape – not a dream
But a necessity
He must be
What he is
Who he is
What he had become
A lone wolf
Who wondered

One moment after
you get,
that your self-image of yourself,
is just a concept of a concept -
that you are in reality,
a scripture yet to be written -
only then
do you become a holy person.
Beware,
let no one eat your promises
as truth,
for they only want their beliefs
to stay pure,
and if you humor them
with other well-meaning myths,
you may well have to take holy orders,
and hide behind a whole lot more
damming words.

Eden
Say half-spoken truths,
Utter well-meaning lies
Why does it matter?
You will believe it
That I’m not Eden
Bid reluctant farewells
Whisper unwilling goodbyes
What’s the difference?
You’d take me in a heartbeat
Even if I’m not Eden
But Adam, it's no disguise
Not a big surprise
I’m not your paradise
I’m no heathen,
But with me,
it's more Gethsemane
You’ll never be in Eden
Remembering to forget
Forgetting to Remember
Is it in that order?
But you're still not in Eden
A love so tender
That started from May 'till December
Trapped from now until forever
Would I really surrender?
Even if I’m not Eden
Feelings of despise
Despising a feeling,
Is it just the beginning?
How can time mend,
Will it ever end?
Your delusion,
that I will never be your Eden.

Inspired by characters in a show and many people I've known. Live your life for you. We can't suppress our dreams and aspirations for others, no matter how well-meaning the intentions.
Live your life for you
By Michelle Morris
08/07/2023
Have you done it?
Lived your life for someone else?
Or for a whole family?
Friends or teammates or mentors?
Whatever we commit to
It's great to give our best
But we need to be mindful of ourselves
And if we're suppressing our own quests
Don't forget about your dreams
Don't forget what's in your heart
No one can give back the time you lose
If you put things on autopilot
Live your life for you
Because you only have one life to live
And if you realise your dreams too late
You could be way too far off course
Take time to find what you're looking for
Take time to know your inner soul
Because when you look back at it
Your life's purpose needs to be your goal

Maybe there’s no leaving and going,
no returning, no entrance nor exit.
People live on the stories they tell each other,
living by a faith that may eventually
metastasize as a growth in the mind,
a cancer that attacks any original thought.
Maybe all the beliefs that ever were,
were whispered into our ears
by well-meaning celestial prison guards
until that time when we can cure ourselves
of the thousand and one children’s stories
taught to us by other children.
Then maybe there will be a real entrance
a real exit,
a real going and leaving. No more returning
to this all too small prison for big Ideas.

Daddy died at 58 and left a widow of 35 with 11 minor kids.
Daddy's people offered to take some of us and raise us themselves.
Mom appreciated their loving offer but declined in spite of her task.
There were 7 girls and 4 boys between the ages of 9 months and 16.
Mom did okay, with all finishing high school, and two went to college.
Accepting such a gesture would have surely changed us for life. Only
Heaven knows what our bonding and connections would have been.
I have often thought about mom's decision, and I am proud of her.
Sometimes it takes years to remember these kinds of things; and
unfortunately, mom passed away before I was able to thank her.
In spite of well-meaning relatives who sincerely desired to help,
mother knew what was best for us. I will always believe that I
and my 10 siblings are 'the better' for it that Mama said "No".

ACHANDA
Achanda was a no-nonsense lass
Nurtured from a well meaning home
Went to a well established school
Harvested the good grades
And went for further education
And finally passed all the examinations
Achanda was a no-nonsense lass
She grew up
Became a lady
She looked pretty
Kept her dignity
Got a fine body
And looked tidy
Achanda was a no-nonsense lass
She was poised and calm
But a no-nonsense lass
Men ran after her
But she minded her own businesses
The seduced her
But she subdued them
They praised her
But ignored it all
Achanda was a no-nonsense lass
She finished college
And went abroad
She met Derrick
A well meaning Irish lad
Derrick swept her off her feet
They danced in the maddening crowd
And brought life into the world
Achanda was a no-nonsense lass
But the glimmers disappeared with dusk
When Derrick turned into a meaningless lad
He danced with all women in the mass
Mistreated Achanda
A no-nonsense lass
And alas, Achanda took her own life
Achanda gone to dust
Achanda was a no-nonsense lass

“God is the busiest worker, always fulfilling His roles 24-7.”
Pastor Ed M. Laurena
God* does care for us 24-7
Indeed constant; still true this new normal
Surpassing all friends---bonded together
Affirming “I love you, three times a day”
With their well-meaning, “Take care coz I care.”
God is cheering us 24-7
By reminders from His Word, the Scriptures
Propelling our steps midst varied slogans
Expressing “Just do it,”** or asserting
“Never ever, never ever give up.”***
God is on His throne 24-7
Reigning graciously with omnipotence
Granting eternal life to believers
Transcending the “good life you can afford”****
Sans return of investment’s assurance.

He speaks of what he knows
Each line expressing in flow
And it touches on what can be grown
Learning how to sharpen a tongue, to hone
Is something I’ve watched brothers fail to show
Not that it is something to hide, to stow
God’s great leaders have had that bestowed.
I though have found myself in different trenches
Struggles have frequently felt to me as benches
Little league coaches telling me I can’t hit
Elite intellectuals telling me I don’t know s**t
Taller people insisting height matters
Thin people insisting regular weight matters
I have found judgement flows freely
Not that it has ever helped in healing
Good people can say hard things, well meaning
God and time grant true mending
Of course as they are the only ones tending.
