The sun rose early today.
Chilly air makes me miss her.
The scent of freshly brewed coffee along the Herrengasse brings me to rise.
My head aches from last night’s wine.
The street is quiet like autumn.
A sharp breeze makes me think of loneliness.
A horse-drawn carriage echoes as an old man with a tired beard sips a coffee.
The steam rises from the porcelain cup and gets caught under the brim of his burgundy Tyrolean hat.
He sits alone in the cafe and writes about love.

There is a concert hall in Vienna
Where the politicians wear black, red and blue
There is a cemetery in Vienna
Where the ghostly boys are cursed with virtuoso
There are no Temples in Vienna
Still I would ask for a dance with you
Let the vagabond gods decide if we were
Truly Prodigious under the sun
Worthy of a love or two
I want so much, Vienna,
Stumbling through half-deserted streets
The flowers blooming on your shoulder
First sunlight, a balcony smoke
In my mind, in my mind
As much as all great cities fall
Vienna, Vienna
Maybe you

In 1913, Hitler, Freud, Tito, Stalin, and Trotsky
Were neighbors in old Vienna, a crew quite motley
Lived within 2 sq. miles
Water must've been vile
They all wound up guilty of famous folly

I was thirteen the first time I pinned my eyes on her
She smelled of Italy, with peppermint breath that clung sweet
each time she kissed me affectionately with love-caress
She told stories of Sir Lancelot and knights of the round table.
Some days her big brown eyes shone with happiness and other
days, when Bobby Solo played his golden trumpet, she would
cry for memory of her long lost love. Knitting needles clacked
as she softly spoke of her blessed mother.
"She once read a romance entitled, Vienna And Paris.
Mother fell in love with the story and decided if she had kids
she'd name them after those two lovers. "
I was fifteen when she returned to Italy to lay next to grandpa.
All I have left is an old super 8 film, and a chapter of my life with
her that I could never replace or ignore. Her wise antidotes got
me through a lifetime. What we share in common is our first
names and so much more. Thank you for reading.

Night skies sighted one brilliant star afar.
Love arrives, to change people's lives.
Heavenly seraph play, throughout the day.

Sitting her in this fog.

I kept calling him Ron instead of Don
As I wondered why his eyes never shone
Then he accidentally called me Elaine
Instead of Vie and I went insane,
Me brain me braine,
Echo’s again, again, am I insane,
Words go round and round, the pain,
Of Vie and sweet Elaine
Don

She always calls me her little flower of all nations
What I’d like to know is who peed in my carnations
My petunia’s have been trampled and my bean stalk
Well it looks devoid of bean, and some taste like chalk (Vie)
Chalky beans are not good, and peed on petunias are even worse
Instead of trying to eat them, use the beans to write some verse
For petunias bathed in pee, well I’ll tell you what I would do
If the pee didn’t work on them try and plant them in some poo

She is the dearest friend I know way back in high school
She was the one who had my back when boys did rule
They taunted and made fun calling Messy sticky tooth
Shadow told them to get lost, giving them the booth
Shaking my fist, I put them to rout
sending them fleeing to their hideout
I dusted you down and gave you a hug
you smiled tenderly as you felt so snug

A COMET THIS WAY CAME
You were a meteor streaking through the sky of my life
A comet that came to save me
You left a tail and trail of fire behind
And all the wonder which you gave me
I watched as you glowed brightly above
Passing stars, the moon and the sun
My eyes were blessed by the sight of you
And I felt luckier than anyone
Born of the heavens, I saw you shine
As you etched brightness through the sky
I was the only one to see how intensely you shone
A body even the darkness could not defy
You were a shade of gold I’d never seen before
A shimmering and celestial soul to wish upon
But just like a comet you finally burned out
And as suddenly as you came then you were gone

IT’S RAINING AND THAT ROOF SPEAKS
“That’s the way a cookie always crumbles”
And how sneakers in the clothes dryer tumbles
It’s also the way the ocean and its waves are tossed
And now I’ll describe the ways in which I keep getting lost
I would come upon and plod a pristine purple and pink path
But that path would lead to a road raging with rampant wrath
I’d come upon a quaint little cabin that would become a house built of pain
With a roof riddled by the unreasonable that couldn’t protect me from the rain
I’d find a sunny stained-glass window that would darken even in daylight
I’d find the safety in a lady’s embrace that would soon turn to fright
I’d happen upon a place wherein I could hide from a world in which I don’t fit in
Or I’d find a devoutly devoted woman whose sanctity suddenly turned into sin
So I may as well be a cookie, sneakers in a dryer or a well threatened sea
Because the temptation of a pristine path often leads to where I don’t want to be
The silence of a comfortable cabin suddenly begins to speciously speak
And every time I find a cabin like that the roof always seems to leak

AND IN THE CENTER RING
We got so very close
close to each other
and close to our dream
a river's song or strawberries and cream
you got so close
naked in your moments of monumental steaminess
clothed when your selfishness demanded more than you deserved
and gave me too little of what I merited
but I was the main actor in a circus
and you are the ringleader
“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN
IF YOU'LL FOCUS YOUR EYES ON THE
CENTER RING YOU'LL SEE
THE GREATEST FOOL WHO I TAMED
ALL BY SELF.
SURE, SOMETIMES HE LASHED OUT AND BROKE SOME VALUABLE small figurines
BUT NOW I CAN ENTER THE RING AND THE ONLY THING HE WILL DO IS LOVE ME”
well I ain't going to be one of the hundred clowns that come out of a little car
it's time for me to walk afar
to the closest bar
you and me
because we got so close to eternity
now i'll throw back a few
we came so close
me and you
