Pronouncing gives me stress.
With syllables to chance,
could ‘monchielle’ be French?
I feel I can’t advance,
a poilu in a trench.
Pronouncing gives me stress.
Italians insist
words like ‘monchielle’,
devoid of hidden twist,
rhyme with ‘vermicelli’.
Pronouncing gives me stress.
Three syllables, no more?
A word like ‘monchielle’,
by making me keep score,
presents a living hell.
Pronouncing gives me stress.
I openly confess;
though anxious to impress,
I find this verbal chess
affords me no success.

Lasagna, linguine, spaghetti, ravioli, macaroni too
Is there any pappardelle for me and for you?
Here is marinara sauce lavished on angel hair
Sure try to take a bite of my pasta if you dare.
Shrimp scampi, chicken, blackened salmon. Why not?
Bucatini, vermicelli and fettuccine hit the sweet spot
Chunky meat sauce with hamburger a plenty.
I would add more cheese, but there simply isn’t any.
That is not fettuccine you fake connoisseur,
It is obviously tagliatelle. Your pedigree unpure.
Campanelle noodles with her sweet ruffled edges
Rivals cavatappi which gives cheese rather soft ledges
Spiral shaped fusilli has groves and crevices galore.
Radiatori noodles? I love this the best out of my top four.
Elbow macaroni for the kids maybe. They think it’s fine.
But make a fancier dish if you don’t expect me to whine.
Butterfly like farfalle makes me smile and laugh.
Gemelli is too twisty; it deserves a lot of gibble and gaff.
Penne noodles are my least favorite. I do not like them at all.
I could only eat them six or seven days a week winter and fall.

The fable man palms do perspire,
Knees inadequate,
Limbs do joxtapose in overabundance.
Purge grazes over the fable man's vestments.

DINNER
Tonight we’ll dine
At a restaurant fine
.To order, we’ll start
With the French words,
Entrée and a la carte.
Hors d oeuvres, escargo,
Brei and dubonnet.
If those mean food,
Why don’t they say?
Foi gras and boeuf.
Grass-fed beef?
Next on the menu:
Pesto, calamari,
Vermicelli, tortellini.
Served with bianco, chianti,
Oh me!
Not to be out done,
The Greeks have their fun
With: gyros, mousaka,
Ouzo, and baklava.
Apparently it’s fashional
To serve food international.
Adding to the appeal
Of a well-prepared meal.
OK by me!

Eeny meeny capellini,
Ziti, elbows, bucatini.
Vermicelli, farfalloni,
Gnocchi, orzo, rigatoni.
Alfabeto and linguine,
Cavatelli, fettuccine.
Penne, pappardelle and gigli,
Stelle, risi, tripolini.
Picking pasta gives you choices;
Any way, your mouth rejoices.
Think I'll go and boil me some -
If it's cooked al dente - yum!

Aunty Betty ate spaghetti
Every chance she got
For every plateful
Very grateful, she
Would scoff the bloomin’ lot
Aunty Betty ate spaghetti
Several times a day
With every course
A different sauce, and
That’s just how it would stay
Aunty Betty ate spaghetti
Far too much it seems
The urge so strong
It didn’t take long, ‘til
She busted apart at the seams
Poor Aunty Betty, there’s no more spaghetti
And the look on her face just confirms
That there in her belly
It’s not vermicelli
But thousands of wriggly worms

'Tis well-known that any pasta concoction will always me appease,
But I reckon my all-time favorite is plain old macaroni and cheese!
Ah! That simple but hardy fare sets my old taste buds a-twitchin',
When my spouse announces, "Honey, supper's ready!" from the kitchen!
As far as I know Mr. Kraft invented this delectable mixture,
That has over the years become a staple American fixture.
'Tis easy to prepare - on the box is the simple instruction,
And you won't clutter up the kitchen making a big production!
I've sampled exotic pasta dishes in romantic Roma and old Napoli,
Such as fusilli bucati, vermicelli, lasagne, fettuccine and ravioli.
They were scrumptious but if ever my palate you want to tease,
I'd prefer a hefty helping of plain old macaroni and cheese!

Oh, vermicelli, rigatoni!
Lost on a sea of minestrone.
The sea beneath my feet,
And nothing else to eat,
I live on cheese and macaroni.
