Where the sky meets
The ground
Where the stars become
Visible
Under that special moon
In the
For me and you
It all about us
Perfection of love
You are my lover
A special , special place
What ah lovely jesture
You and I togethers

When you have a thief in your family
It changes everything
Drug addict?
Almost the same thing; you can relate.
When they visit, you are uncomfortable
Things disappear during their visit – watches, cameras, laptops.
You suspect he has taken them.
Or it could be a she.
Accusations cannot be made.
Things are uncomfortable.
Family get togethers are never the same.
When you have a thief or an addict in your family.

We never know when life will end
And so each day we just pretend
That we have all the time to spend
On all that we envision.
The trips someone would recommend,
The get-togethers with a friend,
The shows and games we should attend -
We plan them with precision.
Yet circumstances often bend
And goals or travels we’d intend
To take, we somehow comprehend
Will bow to indecision.
Our years on earth, though, won’t extend.
There is no magic dividend
And, like this poem that I have penned,
There’ll be no great revision.

At the tender age of twenty-three
Carl took his leave of family
He'd put his stock in friends, he said
One year later, happily wed
Life was easy, an ocean breeze
His siblings, Carl loved to tease
Mocking their holiday get-togethers
He toasted his friends in Vegas weather
The years passed, memories faded
Carl and his wife fully persuaded
They'd done the right thing, sans regrets
Although no children did they beget
But Carl took ill, then his wife left him
Life took a U-turn... painful... grim...
Distant memories of a caring home
Awakened Carl's nostalgia zone
So despite himself, Carl picked up the phone
~ Family long gone, address unknown

Ever wanted to snuggle
A cute little piggies with their stubby flat nose
Piggies have a very bad wrap
Probably because they're ugliest beast on earth
But they still have redeeming factors
For instance they make a tasty pork roast
Around the table on a happy occasion
Such joy to family get-togethers
Secondly they are happy to sacrifice
Their ugly existence to make us joyous
In fact some of us human people
Are not exactly Hollywood material
Once was close though
Was being considered
For the role of Judy Garland in
The Wizard Of Oz!

Excursions, picnics, get-togethers, ballgames
An exhausted father slumps into his favorite armchair, leans back --
Ah, the pot of gold at the end of ‘his special day’
…Dad hobbles outside – bad knees and all – to set up
the sprinklers and haul in the gear from the van

Here at Yale University we’re encouraged to attend these campus “get togethers” - to meet other students and broaden our circles. Some are about interesting subjects like politics or science and sometimes you get to meet famous people.
Others are concerned with less interesting subjects - like the bewildering aspects of philosophy: “Would you kill baby Hitler if you had the chance - and if so - could you do it with a gun? Shoot a baby to stop world war two? What if you didn’t HAVE a gun, could you find it in yourself to use your bare hands?”
“Well,” I say, giving it some serious consideration - just to show that I’m as philosophical as the next girl - “if I had BEAR hands, couldn’t I claw him to death?”

Going out on trips
Everyone enjoys them
Enjoying a snack and coffee
All family get togethers
Bride and groom wedding blues
Eating out we all enjoy to do
All shopping malls closed up
No book store opened anywhere
No road trips airports closed
Nor the beaches or camping
The schools are all closed
Only computer learning
People are out of work
No money coming in
Makes it hard to make
ends meet
I can go on and on
It is the virus fault
These things are out of reach
No one knows for how long

Serenade to~
Pandemic Lemonade
They are afraid to call?
No time to text ever either.
Live in homes called jails?
And have a stolen election!
A veritable Mein Kamp, ressurectdd.
With sadness on the earth.
Even kids stopped smiling.
Football now a BLM game?
Churches closed.
No real school ever?
A bug rules their hearts.
Now and forever!
Families limited in get togethers?
.
Once there was a country.
Now we are all slaves?
Unwilling Socialist knaves.
And like Jim Jones' follow
Will not revolt at all!
Just drink Pandemic Lemonade,
Till our nation absolutely falls!

Walked into my favorite store
No doubt of where I'd go
Straight to the paper products aisle
As if other shoppers didn't know
Everyone looks like robbers
Hiding behind a mask
Trying to stay six feet apart
Is not an easy task
No parties, no family get togethers
Hiding from the world outside
Social distancing is now a thing
We take it all in stride
Kids are now on line to learn
Parents at their wits end
Wash your hands and sanitize
We video chat to see a friend
We've never moved so fast
As we look out for our self
We jump ahead and rudely grab
The last package on the shelf

times were so very different
when I was growing up
till age nine I lived in a small town
my grand-mother just a short walk away
relatives were local and
huge get-togethers the norm
they were always joyful occasions
suddenly we uprooted
and moved to the country
leaving city life five hundred miles away
can you even imagine
a world without cable
color televisions or computers
electric games or email
pinterest or facebook
can you even imagine
snail mail being our only means
to keep in touch with
faraway family and friends
strangely they seemed
a lot closer in our hearts

Christmas
Eve church service—
reverent, organized,
peaceful—will stand out in contrast
to casual get-togethers where we
will eat too much, sing off key, and
get loud. In many ways,
we celebrate
Christmas!

sweet sensations, the song of morning.
a cup of joe slick black
opens half shut eyes,
floating just above the mug.
daze itinerary: work,
dentist chair (crown and cleaning).
all after
full-bodied fortnight*
of work, out-of-town grands
and plentiful get togethers.
followed soon by a Fall cruise.
come soon.
sweet sensations, the song of open ocean.
cocktails and mermaids,
seafoam and a fluffy pillow
and my man,
o my man…
sweet sensations

HER EAGERNESS TO SPEAK
ENCOURAGES HIM
TO PURSUIT HER
WHAT WE LACK IN LONGEVITY
MIGHT WE GAIN FROM TRUST
THAT THESE TOGETHERS ARE THE
DOORSTEP FOR OUR TOMORROWS
MIGHT I SOW MY SEEDS
AMONG THESE CRUMBLING STONES
THAT THEY SHALL GROW AND BE NUTRIMENT
FOR OUR TOMORROWS

"Life is about love, last minutes, and lost evenings" - Frank Turner
life is about
awkward before parting pauses we didn't know would be …
our last goodbyes
memories that laugh and cry
faces that fade in yesterday's apprehensive mists and
forgotten or ignored "we'll get togethers"
life is about a "head-in-hands cry" - a breathless sigh
a wondering why I ended this day without
a purpose fulfilled - without having lost at least one
" I tried"
