In a cyclone, Dorothy was swept,
To the land of Oz with a dog she kept,
There she killed a wicked witch,
They rejoiced she killed the b*tch,
Then she realised she was lost, she wept.
A good witch gave her a silver shoe,
To go back home, a Wizard has the clue,
So for the warlock, she searched.
A brain-hungry Scarecrow perched,
Near a Tinman who wanted a heart too.
Soon a lion lacking courage she met,
The request to kill a witch made them fret,
The condition to go home,
So the male witch made them roam,
From heads to toes they were drenched with sweat.
The bad witch battered Tinman on a rock,
unstuffed Scarecrow who then stopped to walk,
She then captured the lion,
threatened to jail Dorothy.
Just poured water, the witch died to her shock.
The witch slaves free the lion and others,
The Wizard then free them from their suffers:
The Scarecrow a brain;
others, solved their complain,
The shoe's magic powers she discovers.

The rubiest shoes, on display,
walked yellowest bricks all the way.
The emerald glows,
but Dorothy knows
the rainbow hues melting away.
A barrel of laughs in the night.
Ho hum after witchiest flight.
The bump on her head
does find her in bed.
The monkeys with wings out of sight.
The brains of a scarecrow she sees.
The heart of a tinman does freeze.
It does not make sense.
Her friends think she’s dense.
Yet, courage of lion, she frees.
She roars about witches on brooms
and colorful wizard that booms;
and munchkins not high,
and monkeys that fly.
A quack of a doctor resumes.

The Scarecrow, he was born without a brain
And the Tinman got all rusted from the rain
Because the Tinman had no heart
And because the Scarecrow was smart
Instead of walking to Oz, he'd taken a train

The wizard will know everyone I met along the way said.
Okay, I thought, for I am from Kansas and not daft in my head.
I looked for the curtain as I pranced down the yellow brick road.
Instead of Toto a cairn terrier, I was followed by a frog who looked old.
The mini-munchkins did not come out to greet or to sing.
I never found a scarecrow, tinman or lion with zing.
In the far distance I saw a poppy field, but the flowers looked odd.
An old witch-like creature with wings gave me a head nod.
Where is the wizard? I yelled, kind of half-heartedly.
That’s when I found a lively sassy wise talking oak tree.
Winged monkeys are about, so make haste she warned me.
Fear came into my heart, I’ve seen Wizard of Oz times twenty-three.
I began to run and hit my head on an unexpected branch.
I woke up smelling cinnamon, pumpkin and possibly ranch.
A frog with a wizard hat was concocting some kind of spell.
I wondered if I was still alive or I had gone to…..

Airport security is a nightmare when Tinman is around.
When security leads him off, he makes not a bit of a sound.
Lion rolls his eyes because fear overtakes his heart.
Don’t fret says scarecrow, whose logic is totally smart.
Toto gives an annoyed bark that travels to the next Wal-Mart.
I know, I tell him, but she is not wicked, so please don’t start.
I show them identification, and they usually let me go.
Especially when we get to Kansas the home of many a tornado.

If I had to explain to a child
What is fear?
I could not
I would not
But for the adult
Fear is all too familiar
Yet so unknown
Transcendence is skewed
Fear is natural
Yet it is corrupt
It is in the mind alone
But also physically numbs
A lingering silence
Devoid of thoughts
Or a chaotic noise
Without a gap between screams
Blooming from confusion
Unfamiliarity, wrath and kindness
The reason for being afraid
Was not the same
For Jack or Jill
Dorothy or the Tinman
Stepmother or Stepsisters
Bonnie or Clyde
Are you still afraid?
One asked a dying man
‘No’, he replied
If not before, then at your last breath

She woke up in the wrong movie, mad as heck.
Her hair so curly, surrounded by birds that peck.
Where was Toto? The Tin Man? She would welcome the witch.
She turned to look at the sunset, it gave her brain a fine twitch.
She had gone to sleep in a poppy field with her loyal friends.
On their way to Emerald City, with hope she thought would never end.
But upon awaking, she finds herself standing in Hawaiian sand.
A flock of bird cawing away, as they leave the safety of land.
The flying monkey soldiers would be a welcome sight now.
She missed lion, Tinman, and scarecrow, with his brain, a wow.
I am Dorothy from Kansas she screamed into the roughness of the sea.
I need to be in another story! She watched the crowing birds flee.
Behind her a voice said, you think that’s bad? I am looking for the wolf.
It was Little Red Riding Hood. Next to her Prince Charming’s horse hoof.
Where is Cinderella or Snow White? He asked, confused as he could be.
It seems they were all lying in poppy fields when they woke up by this sea.

Where have you been
Because ive been so lost
Without my kin
They've come for my heart
They're under the skin
Dont think ill make it
'Cause im drowning in sin
IM NOT MADE OF TIN
Brother im not made of tin
Thought my skin was thick
Turns out that its thin
Im not made of tin
Brother im nit made of tin

Think I wanna be heartless
So I would stand a chance
So wish I was heartless
Like the Tin Man
Think I wanna be heartless
So I could be that cold
Oh when I am heartless
A sight to behold

complicated by your mysterious eyes and then you smiled my way.
incompliant hair, teased by the brawny solar wind, potently alluring.
my pulse swoons at your flawless turquoise eyes, their iconic sway.
i thought i’d play it cooly (let’s be honest beg) give up everything.
your smile arced my way.
your feet followed suit.
my tinman- mouth display
at your provocative pursuit.
your charm like a diamond cave, a knight shining, loosened my mine
— all sparkles from my full mouth of teeth, my gums reveal score.
the stage illuminates, hugs us with its warmth; this fame divine.
you turn out to be sweet and nice, a bit introverted, and i adore.
our hands they touched, electricity in synch, our hearts are complete.
never’d believe how we were meant for each other, when first we’d meet.

How did I land in Kansas?
Who plunked me here?
Smack in the middle of the USA?
A state where my vote will never count.
Thanks to the Electoral College
What was I thinking when I arrived?
Now I remember. I was thinking of my grandchildren.
Wanting to be closer.
The land of Dorothy, Toto, the Tinman and tornadoes
Wizard of Sunflowers and I am in an earth-sheltered house.
Voting is not everything.

Say goodbye to the land of Oz in dismay
where knowledge and logic fall away
like the scarecrow's inner stuffings filleted,
first one strand, then two or three until
all his common sense has spilled;
say hello to the witches of the west
lost in their self-interest, done their very best
all but forgotten about the majority at rest;
see the lion lose his courage
slip-sliding in the congressional forage
where voice, common sense lay in permanent storage;
hug the tinman, his final sigh in search of his heart
when love to hate is split in part
and nothing seems left from America's start;
Emerald City crumples to ash and rubble
as the sun rays burn the earth in trouble
and embers rise and smolder the pseudo bubble;
even the Wizard with all his tricks
is cashing in all his chips
and succumbs to the politics;
while Dorothy and Toto too
into the basket of the balloon flew
to escaping the nonsense coup.
A brief look back and futures questioned
is this the wonderland for which we're destined?

OFF TO SEE THE WIZ
Here I am: that “horse of a different color”,
purple, pink and white
off to see the wizard
to ask for wings for flight.
I’m trotting hot
to see the Wiz who I heard can do a lot
like giving the Scarecrow a brain
so he could actually appear sane!
And that coward, the Lion,
wanted to be brave.
Poor little Dorothy,
he really wanted to save.
The Tinman was just an empty can.
He had no beating heart
but now he’s in love
with a pretty little tart.
So surely he’ll give me wings
so I can sail above
as poor homesick Dorothy
dreams about the home she loves.
She has a beautiful voice
and if she had her choice
she’d get her wish to fly too
over the rainbow like the bluebirds do.
She could ride upon my back
and we’d sail through the sky
over the beautiful rainbow.
Oh, how I wish I could fly!
