     and fresh bars of sweet bliss are echoing;
though happily sung poems can make thee weep

     through lines so purely expressed with profound
words

Rainbow Throated Hummingbird

Obviously male, I strut my stuff and make my song of Key Key Key.
I am the captain of this branch in the banks of this bamboo tree.

My relatives are from Costa Rica, and are as aggressive as paprika.
Except the looney ones from Argentina, who dance the Macarena.

Could that ruby throated hummingbird be God?
Fanning smiles-igniting sighs in brief thimbles of time...
To help temper the graying emptiness of our swirling lives.
Then just as quickly as they arrive, they flit away with our sighs.
There's nothing left but twin pits of black and blue regret.

The white-throated needletail

Was recently spotted
And quick spread the word
Only eight other sightings
In one seventy years
On the Isle of Harris
The bird watcher hears
And so ornithologist
From near and from far
Gathered in June
To observe this bird star
They were not disappointed
As the bird soon flashed by
Straight as an arrow
