Premium MemberJunipers

Junipers symbolized rest and refuge in ancient times.
Elijah, Job, and Jeremiah were drawn to these special trees.
During their worst times, resting beneath them, they pondered life and death.

Complimentary Red Rose

A while ago
This flower symbolized one-sided love
Which is hopeless
Recently, the red rose
Is a beautiful way
To compliment the smile
Of the one who receives it.

A Place to Run? Or A Place to Hide?

Screams of heart,
Pricks of needle.
Shivers of the Cadaver,
Breaking of thunder!
How can't I wonder?
Lying crushed on the land of tormentors.

Little did they realize,
How hard they made me cry.
The moment I asked,
Is there a place to run?
Or a place to hide?

A pair of sight,
Staring deep, dark into my eyes.
An unspoken question reclined:
"Why are you still alive?
Why didn't you die?"

Lightning struck up high,
Leaving my undescribed condition behind.
Quivering digits seized the pen tight.
Praying and begging, I asked:
Is there a place to run?
Or a place to hide?

A question came to my mind,
How shall I write when-

Feet remained immobilized,
Lips left paralyzed,
Tears dropping, symbolized,
The horrified ache of angina
Whispered a final byeee!

May now you tranquil,
May now you alleviate,
Since I reached that place
Where none can penetrate.

It's known as Paradise,
Completely different from my mind's eyes.
Is it the place to run?
Or a place to hide?

Premium MemberWhat If

Those “What if” sessions we indulge
may rouse regrets we won’t divulge,
awaken sensibilities,
or help us set priorities.

What if I could retrieve today
one thing I’ve lost along the way,
one object that was dear to me
that I’d be overjoyed to see?

I venture from reality
and in a vivid fantasy,
a box I hold contains each thing
I’ve lost. I’ll search first for my ring.

My high-school class ring symbolized,
a milestone. When I realized
through carelessness, I’d lost this treasure,
I knew I’d miss that source of pleasure.

I learned from this experience.
I’ve been more careful ever since.
Those lessons that come packed with pain,
we’re much are most likely to retain.

Framed art and photos on the Johnsons’ wall
depict the beauty of four generations~~
awards, graduations, baptisms, weddings,
holiday scenes, birthday celebrations. . . .
One needs no explanations for these.

The image of two lovely white swans stands out.
Their gracefully curved necks form a complete heart.

Why is this artwork there for all to see?

The golden wedding anniversary reception, planned by
the Johnsons’ grateful children, was unforgettable.
Dozens came with gifts and kind words that night.
The oldest son’s comments were short and sweet.
On behalf of the family, he poetically and movingly
described how those cuddling swans symbolized
their parents, whose deep commitment, based on love,
had sustained them and their family for half a century.

Premium MemberMost Beautiful Flower

I am an ephemeral purple flower, a rare variety,
named as most beautiful!
Did that arouse adoration to a mother’s heart?
She chose the name for her baby in the womb,
She thought, my name suits best for her girl
Who was going to arrive soon!

My name kindled her imagination…and she
remembered the Princess of Malawa in disguise,
the enchanting dancer and heroine of Sanskrit classic...
Prince Agnimitra enamoured by her
beauty, grace and talents - happy ending to the historical
Romance, although after gripping intrigue!

Part of my name indicates a garland, usually
used for worship ….to the mother I symbolized
all the traits - kindness, strength, wisdom, and grace...
she wished her daughter to possess!

“The universe is transformation; life is opinion.” ~~Marcus Aurelius~~

He was the last of the five, good Roman emperors. His reign was one of great tranquility….he has symbolized the….“Golden Age of the Roman Empire”
for many generations in the West.

Premium MemberRed Rose of Yesteryear

On Valentine's Day, February 14
I gifted you a single red rose
That symbolized my single heart
I still remember
Our pleasure and passion

We’ve flown and will fly together
Under similar sun and moon
That red rose cherishes
My true love
Everblooming in my heart

True love should not be refreshed
That's why on this February 14
I don't have a new red rose
Nor a new wedding ring
To grace your finger again
The single rose
The single love
Is for a lifetime!

Premium MemberThe Cardinal And The Rose In His Crimson Cape

Crimson red braces a snowy dreamscape
Huddled in dense twigs, dons a showy cape
Plumage a bold rich scarlet, an exuberance
Nay can’t hide its immaculate beauty’s trance

Christians believe you symbolize the blood of Christ
Christmas bird who’s remained in zeitgeist
Colonists saw your red feathers as red robes
worn by Catholic Cardinals and a hat upon lobes

Together always like your flock, hence your name
O nightingale your loved by all—a pillar of fame
Arctic winds strong, cold unlike south’s gentle breeze
But seek shelter friend in branches of conifer trees

Like the wind rose traced to maritime maps
God’s gift of navigation finds you maple saps
I look to my compass and note the design
Resembling petals of a rose that align

This Fleur de lys indicates winds direction
The east rim of the rose shows a cross, an indication
The direction in which Jesus Christ was born
The wind rose symbolized and was never shorn

Premium MemberA December Memento

I loved to trim the Christmas tree
placing a gold star at its top.
Since it brought Christmas home for me,
even more than Santa's workshop.

Placing a gold star at its top,
I'd add tinsel and colored lights.
And sing Christmas carols nonstop
on one of my favorite nights.

Since it brought Christmas home for me;
when mom left it to me, I wept.
And to this day, it tops my tree,
the only memento I kept.

Even more than Santa's workshop,
that star symbolized Christmas time.
And like candy and soda pop,
it's a sweet memory of mine.

A triangle can represent
A lot of things...
Yet for you,
There are memories
Symbolizing what life had once brought you.
And those signs,
Will always be true...
This triangle
Can show you the friendship
That seemed hard to untangle,
It can say where those days have happened,
And also remind you
Of a certain person
Who belonged in a different civilization.
And that person
Will always have hope for you...
