Summer sweltered in her summer retreat -
Necking hot and heavy on the back seat.
In the heat of the moment
Summer’s passion did foment -
Lost her cherry in that moment of heat.

My husband had purchased fresh flowers
They sweltered in his car for eight hours
Twelve roses of red
Were nearly all dead
His Valentine’s Day gaffe truly sours

Beautiful the ugliness of scented sweat.
Resists the idea to flee. The least needs
the soldier’s help. The bleed of his forehead -
whether this soul is of tares or weeds.
This dreadful beast is a Samaritan’s guest.
He has no wallet, no name, one’s home.
A medicinal book speaks, “Give him rest.”
Wash him, pull up clean sheets to his chin.
The saint cannot measure the light of his eyes.
They are sweltered in darkness under lids.
The beauty sleep might do him good.
Samaritan, you can’t take a peek - God forbids.
Chances are this hoary man’ll not be thankful.
Chances are he’d rather be dead…is he?
You’ve taken a chance…might he be wrathful?
Still, a human being presented himself - the least.
Beautiful the rising of the sun, its presentation
of bittersweet orange and red, hugely sacrificing.
In nettle, your knees - you know who you long to be.
No matter the cost, the calling of heaven’s enticing.

We yearned for rain, for spring had been so dry.
We got wet one day. Would things get better?
The sun blazed so intensely in the sky.
Only in the park’s pool could we get wetter.
Then came the time of our celebration.
We’d sweltered until Independence Day.
A pelting rain caused no great elation,
for picnics and fireworks that rain did slay!
But rain it did, and it’s been surprising
for rarely has it stopped! Eight days have passed,
and everyone I know is now surmising
we’ll soon have flooding. How long will this last?
We’d prayed for rain to aid in the crops’ growing,
yet the sound of pounding rain keeps going.

Sweater and knee socks in May
As around her
All present sweltered
damp browed assuring
She felt just fine
In things unseasonably sheltered
A boundary crossed
The sweater removed
Insult to injury by force
Seeing the reason
And humiliation
Immediately showing remorse
Gently escorted away from
The eyes
that looked on ,and on,it seemed
After the big unveiling
the rest
A nightmarish dream
The role of being
A spokesman unwittingly
given that day
No looking not
Or deciding
to look the other way
We all have an obligation
to the fragile
Or dispossessed
Trying to hide
their battle scars
Each day as their getting dressed
Be the one who says
"Come with Me"
As you guide them out of this mess
Love in action
Love indeed
Not shallow words professed

She sprawled out across the sky, bored,
Perfectly sun-kissed.
From a distance she could fit
In my hands.
Day, the name we hold dearest
Day, the name of the memory I placed
her above all else.
I too, lay sprawled out, beneath her.
The intensity of how she makes me
feel,
A region I know well, sweltered &
swollen,
Without walls or halls to contain the
effect she has on me.
She took my hand & gave me the gift of
her presence.
My heart but a burning bush from this
intense percussion, this rapid sensation spreading steadily, rapidly.
A giant in my eyes.
I've climbed the highest building &
collapsed beneath her.
Black & wilted,
I am the wick without promise of
tomorrow

If you think July is bad,
Perhaps you have forgot.
There’s no relief in August.
It’s really just as hot.
Even if you like the heat,
There’s just no celebration.
Unless you care to celebrate,
That most are on vacation.
There’s no relief in August.
You’d think you’re close to fall.
But as you bake the days away,
It’s not that close at all.
Hot does not mean always dry.
Sometimes we’ll get a storm.
But afterwards, the humid air,
Will cause the gnats to swarm.
Counting down the sweltered days,
And hours that we log.
There’s no relief in August.
Those summer days of dog.

Stray meteoric passion’s red hot beam
fire-wires moonlight dervish in a bold splash
clouds of glitter coat my sweetheart’s gleam
as solar powered pulse rates cut a dash
welder’s arc vapours rise from pure raw ash
us copper tinted fiery orbs ablaze
melt first flush easels with our brimstone rays
spiral eye bright lumens fuse galactic
species skyline sweltered rapt current phase
with torch bearer incense so ecstatic

CITY STREET
I drifted down the city street,
Feeling tired and sore.
Nothing seemed to inspire me,
I walked with heavy feet.
I sweltered in the sultry heat,
Deafened by the noise.
My shoulders bore the weight of life;
Bowed down in defeat
Then I heard that voice so sweet,
From somewhere in the crowd.
And it was calling out my name.
My poor heart missed a beat.
I saw you then, hand raised to greet.
And ran into your arms once more;
My life again complete
Inspired by, "Down the street as I was drifting ….

The man planted and watered the garden,
like he did always in his weathered dungarees, as he told the girl
no,
no to a day down the shore...
The phlox and peonies thirsted for his touch, screaming for the tilt of the watering can.
The girl stood at the screen door, mid summer New Jersey heat sweltered at her bare feet,
she clutched a glass of whiskey while he whistled at his pink and yellow crop.
Raindrop tears rolled off her chin, dissolving with the trail of salt into the booze, her black lace nightgown glued to her thin body.
The bees circled his flowers, not caring for tears or indifference.

Summer solstice
As Sun appeared to stand still in the sky
hence a Latin term solstice arised,
Summer sweltered till to fierce heat's wilt,
came closer to sun, earth with elliptic tilt,
Be it reason to season's conquest,
Summer solstice brought renewal and good harvest,
Fascination marked by the Stonehenge,
and Ireland's prehistoric newgrange,
Guru purnima, international surfing day or music day
Washington celebrates Fremont solstice parade,
Arctic circle sees sun on horizon during midnight,
as places north see sun 24 hours shining bright.

Restless memories, faded yesterdays --
On my darkened wall a light appears,
grows bright, passes into darkness.
Outside: the sound of ill-tuned engines.
A street lamp shines through my window --
the curtains really should be drawn.
In a hot July we sweltered
under the weight of words,
polysyllabic, pretentious --
a regimen that ordered what seemed
only a half-waking existence.
In those sweaty dark-baked cells
we bickered. We preened. We posed.
And we glanced surreptitiously,
each at the others. Outside
bloomed the warm, sweet, magnolias.
The sap of youth ran thick and piquant.
Finally it ended
(yet never ended?)
Cars still go by outside,
engines louder, even raucous,
rudely mocking. The hour is late.
Lights reflected on the walls
brighten, dim, disappear.
The curtain really should be drawn.

I remember July
When your heart sweltered with passion
When love was a style...an unequaled fashion
I remember July
When you brewed with envy over your chocolate sorbet'
How you could hardly wait to get caught up in the rapture
of the day
Yes, i remember July
When I was the essence of your high
Taking you to heights unknown
But you've come down
You've outgrown
And now love is like bitter December
