Too Much of a Good Thing

We yearned for rain, for spring had been so dry. We got wet one day. Would things get better? The sun blazed so intensely in the sky. Only in the park’s pool could we get wetter. Then came the time of our celebration. We’d sweltered until Independence Day. A pelting rain caused no great elation, for picnics and fireworks that rain did slay! But rain it did, and it’s been surprising for rarely has it stopped! Eight days have passed, and everyone I know is now surmising we’ll soon have flooding. How long will this last? We’d prayed for rain to aid in the crops’ growing, yet the sound of pounding rain keeps going.

Hello Andrea. Good Morning. Yes, too much of a good thing exactly be it the sun or the rain. Your words flowed and your rhyming read with ease and was never forced. If this is true for where you sit, may the sun show itself. Have a wonderful morning. Thank you for sharing your poetic talent. Blessings (smile)

You expressed , "Too much of a good thing" very nicely. We got flooded couple of months ago, so relate . Needed 19 sand bags. Congrats, well done.

Its raining right now and yes, its been rather dry. We need the rain but I'd prefer not to have too much of a good thing, because floods are a bad thing, and perhaps they stink more than a crazy dry spell. Congrats!

A captivating poem, Andrea. Thank God in Malta we do get so much rain. On the contrary in churches, we often pray for rain. My fear is that we will have a terrible summer. Temperatures are already soaring.

To good indeed, as Nancy below puts thats The human creed.' Always missing whats Imagined..The betters held from us in fetters.' Though invisible they're harder to break, We feel for them frantic, as though our souls Are at stake.'

Hi Andrea, Isn't it the nature of man to always want the opposite of what they are given? Good luck in your contest. Enjoyed.

We pray for the sun, then it's too hot. We pray for the rain, then we can't cope. We're just not a happy lot. Pray my team wins tonight.
