In the meadow, a tragedy befell
a mother butterfly by a wishing well.
She'd wished for a son who could fly all crooked,
but a witch's curse prevailed, so wicked.
Her firstborn had the preposterous trait
of flying up and staying straight.

Sometimes they may appear,
As though they have thick skin,
But little do we really know,
All the demons they fight within.
They constantly try so hard,
Not to let their family down,
So they hide away their truth,
And try straighten up their crown.
When it never rains only pours,
The days are long and cold,
No matter what may happen,
They don't give in and fold.
Persistently trying to provide,
Weighing them down with stress,
Doing what they can to protect,
Even when life feels like a mess.
Just a fraction of the worries,
Tormenting them through until sunrise,
Hidden and securely locked away,
Deep behind a man's eyes.

in his newly built spiritual psycho-anteroom
his reflection in the mirror swiftly changed
his grandmother appeared with a message
you will have other lifetimes
but I am your spirit guide in this one
straighten up my darling
this mystical magic was unforeseen
he watched her disappear into the mirror
knowing his life had forever changed

Sometimes it's hard to be me that i am aware,
I just can't make my mind up how to have my hair.
Sometimes it's hard to be me with things inside my head,
I don't want to get dressed or even get out my bed.
I always find comfort in people I know who care,
Sometimes it's hard to be me my life so hard to bare.
Sometimes it's hard to be me when life just gets me down,
I just mange to keep on smiling and straighten up my crown.
Sometimes it's hard to be me but I have family by my side,
They show me how to love my self and to do it with lots of pride.
They teach me how to smile again show me how to shine,
It's easy to be me when you have family like mine.
Some days won't be easy but I will see them through,
when I feel down I know just what to do,
Go and see my family and they will help me through.
They will always make me laugh and help to make me smile,
making it easy to be me just for a little while.
Next time I find it hard especially to be me,
I will start to smile and set my feelings free.
My family taught me to be strong and go the extra mile,
With them i ca be myself with them i know i can smile.

Stumbling and sometimes falling are part of it
In this walk, the path can be replete with tests
To walk with your head held low would be unfit
Be prudent, fail up and trust the process
So fail up when you fall
Pick yourself up and answer the call
Fail up when you fall
Even if you have to start again with a crawl
Dust off very well
Now walk upright and tell your tale
A testimony is preceded by only a test
Don't hesitate to unfurl what's in your chest
Fail up when you fall
Tidy yourself, square your shoulders, and stand tall
Speak and live from the heart
And inauthenticity, please soon depart
So when you stumble or fall
Straighten up, dust off, and answer the call

I will doff my ermine gown
and take off my kingly crown.
The day declines, the course is run,
on fleece of gold reclines the sun.
I'll not retouche the Mona Lisa
or straighten up the Tower of Pisa.
Further work in that connection
I leave to those who seek perfection.

Knees just don't let grampa bend
feet won't let him run
Back that will not straighten up
some might say he's done
But wait a minute, not so fast
a wedding's round the corner
Pretty Anna's getting married
no invites for aging mourners
So into his cerebrum
Gramps smeared adrenaline
Well his feet took off a-flying
dancing like the wind
Spins, turns, leaps in the air
as if the aches were never there
Though inside he was grimacing
blisters and sores a-simmering
Yet Gramps kept up his great charade
on nimble knees and flying feet
For Anna's wedding serenade
Waves of pain ~ ne'er so sweet

I don't want to grow up,
Not today.
The thought of tomorrow,
Just eats me away.
Responsibilities are hovering up,
Like any fire in the forest.
My mind has been acting just like a mess,
And I can't make myself at rest.
Is this the life,
Which would continue further?
Cause I don't want to grieve,
Any after.
Guess, I would have to,
Learn to clean up my mess.
Straighten up a little,
And think for the best.
There are many wonders,
Left undiscovered,
The doors are closed,
Waiting to be rediscovered.
Life is hard,
Truly.
But what's the fun,
In easy?

Collaboration with Mitch Taylor
written in 1984 when we were 12
Wherever you go, it’s all around.
Money and drugs goin’ down.
You see ‘em doin’ crack, sniffin’ cocaine
And puttin’ that stuff in their vein.
You don’t do drugs ‘cause you’re no fool,
But those who do think their cool.
Once in awhile, you’ll see a fight,
Usually occurring late at night.
Whoa! Back up, he’s got a gun.
Go to the phone and dial 911.
The cops come over right away.
Looks like hell is here to stay.
If you do drugs every day,
It’s like slittin’ your throat with a razor blade.
‘Cause if you do drugs don’t you know,
Keep it up and you won’t grow.
Why don’t you do some good in your life,
Like get a nine to five and a loving wife,
Two kids and real nice car.
Straighten up and you’ll go far
Or on death row is where you’ll be.
And why? Just ‘cause you didn’t listen to me.

I'm on this bottle,
They call it depression,
Gotta face my inner battles,
I can't show my expression.
Started my regression,
To help stop my aggression,
Holding it back,
All these tears,
Holding onto my fears.
With you bearing my witness,
I gotta straighten up,
Even if my demons,
Don't help me see it thru,
Keep on finding my inner youth,
Got too many problems to spare,
I wanna take,
That whole bottle down,
Thanks to my depression,
Family of addicts,
Whom are on my mind,
Mom spent her days,
In the bar smokin,drinking,
So we throw our hands up,
We kept thinkin,
She was never leavin,
Chasing this bottle ,
Once more,
Makes me feel good,
And somewhat numb,
Deep within my thoughts,
I'm drinkin,
Ended up slippin,
Hearts still breakin
Tellin myself don't be hang in,
Wanna pick up the phone,
Wanna pack up all my clothes,
My head is messed up,
My depression knocks me down,
Needing some balance,
All I wanna do is throw that bottle down,
Stuck in my battles,
I'm stuck in this bottle of depression!

I try to be Ladylike,
And leave my dizzy youth.
Ladies do not swear,
I'm not sure this is the truth.
I wear lace gloves,
And always wear a hat,
When I attend church on Sundays
Can you get more ladylike than that?
Sometimes things happen,
When ladylike won't do.
I forget I am a lady,
And say rude words like you.
My lady icing drops off.
When I see someone being unkind,
That gets my knickers in a twist,
So much for being refined.
I quickly put myself together,
And straighten up my hat.
I put my nose up in the air,
Saying, that's that.

The Christmas Pirates took to the Seven Seas
They looted and plundered and never said please.
Come on! Santa said. They have to act better than that.
To their Christmas wish list he gave a big whack.
Better give those pirates another chance Mrs. C. said.
She was afraid of these cutthroats, they made people dead.
They are all bluff and blunder, her husband wisely said.
They apologized profusely and did not show unkindness or lead.
They really want to be on the Christmas Wish list Mrs. C. thought.
They were not as mean as she had envisioned, anger was naught.
Let’s give them a chance because they were nice, she said to her man.
I will try my best, but they had better straighten up while they can.

My mother always told me
That my posture needed work.
Now, straighten up your shoulders!
A reminder I would shirk.
I’ve never stood up straight and tall
And sometimes I would see
On the street, a bent old woman,
Which I’d never want to be.
A neighbor had that happen –
Now she’s twisted like a crone,
A terrifying prospect
I’m determined to postpone.
So I checked it out on Google
How to keep my back erect
And I purchased their suggestion –
Posture straps that will correct.
Every day for 30 minutes
My contraption stays in place.
Though my stance may not improve
I will continue, just in case.

Teddy was a celebrity for being so silly,
he whistled at sexy girls strolling by;
he leaned against his brand new Chevrolet
smoking a cigarette to lure pretty Bridget!
He wished she would sit in his lap and laugh,
making his friends jealous and despite his stupidity
nobody dared to say how crazy he was...
carrying on with his delusion and vanity;
would the kiss her on the lips with that smelly breath?
Could a girl want a guy who told lies?
Teddy was a celebrity for being so silly,
he was always in charge showing superiority;
was it his good looks or his undebatable imbecility?
Plenty of girls fell for his charm and claimed insanity!
His last conquest wasn't such a win, but such an endless misery;
the poor girl got pregnant by him, that's when the trouble began;
you think he would care and hold his baby,
be proud of him and call him his son?
Oh, Teddy straighten up your act
and take all responsibility,
each man must do his part;
they need you: family is togetherness!
You are essential to their happiness,
love them and they'll love you back!

‘One has to grow hard but without ever losing tenderness.’
I did not know that my hero was a sex god as well
But he wrote The Motorcycle Diary without any Zen
‘Every day People straighten up the hair, why not the heart?’
Never contemplate a revolution on a bad hair day
So he sported an iconic bandana to dress for a war
‘Don't Shoot I'm Che I'm worth more to you alive than dead!’
A bullet reaches as far as the range of a shell
Revolution rises from residue to the living
‘Democracy represents the dictatorship of the exploiting classes’
No opium for the masses and the jungle for a home
Pistol in belt tongue in cheek and always controversial
‘Better to die standing than to live on your knees’
He lived by the sword for the benefit of ploughshares
A doctor turned renegade marxist Central American style
‘We have no right to believe that freedom can be won without struggle’
Justice does not appear without shadows from Nowhere
He killed fewer people in battle than Trump or Obama
