The draft dips downward, limbs swaying in the wind;
fearless butterfly hovers over a branch.
Listening too late, one strong gust of wind
propels her towards an overhanging tree.
She grabs hold; hunching under leaves; she waits it out.
What a story she'll have for her kiddoes tonight.
Audacious bee is busily engaged
stockpiling nectar from nearby tulip blooms.
He hears the wind's howl and crawls quickly to safety
deep inside a budding tulip blossom's petals.
"Wind's too strong to risk flying back to the hive;
I might land in Timbuktu or the Sahara."
Hard-working ants set out on their quest early;
word has it that there's treasure on Ridge Rd.
Hauling crumbs twice his size, along the dusty path,
Andy has made three trips already by noon.
Wearily, he trudges along with his last load
and gets wind of a blast coming his way.
Dropping cargo, he crawls to a crack just in time.

As a child, men of science warned me
about the coming of a second ice age.
They flashed pictures of stomping mastodon
hungry saber tooth cats
and giant sloths with enormous claws.
I listened closely and was frightened
but I was all in and took quick action.
I learned how to build an igloo
by stuffing snow into hollow plastic blocks.
I sharpened the end of dozens of sticks
to battle the giant cats and mastodon.
Now, Bill Nye, Mr. Gore and Hanoi Jane
are warning me of imminent global warming
and biblical flooding rarely seen.
I'm taking them seriously.
So, I'm stockpiling tuna fish, beer and seed.
and building a tiny arc just for three
as I'll never have two of everything.
There's only the cat, an olive-eyed dove and me.

The end of November
Christmas looms ever nearer;
Gifts required for Buster Boy
Kitty Violette and Keira
As well as those for
Their dads and mums
All to be bought before
The dreaded day comes.
And the ads on the tele
Get ever more extreme
Filling kids minds with
Such expensive dreams.
So, I'm stockpiling the ammo
For my RPG launcher
This time I mean it,
Resolve couldn't be stauncher.
In my para sleeping bag
I'll be watching the roofs
Alert for the first sound of
Any approaching hooves.
I'll give him a warning
Tell him to pass by
And if he ignores me
Blast him from the sky.
Wonderful visions
Slide through my head
Of him spiralling down
In his burning sled.
The first year will be hard
As the kids wait and wait
Wondering why
Old Santa is late.
But kids are resilient
And pretty soon I feel
It won't take long for
Disappointment to heal
And in time I know
I'll get plenty applause
For ridding the world of
That odious Mr Claus.
Such pleasant daydreams
As I'm on the hop
Plodding around
From shop to shop,
Ever aware as Christmas
Draws steadily nearer
Gifts wanted for Buster Boy
Kitty Violette and Keira.

I will take that and that and that too
Hand me everything, and quickly.
I will take it all thank you,
because my greed is fierce
and I do not share.
Why would I? No one has ever helped me.
You will hand it back right now
I am pulling out weapons to make sure.
I am stockpiling and hoarding
because I have to think of me, and only me.
No one else ever has.
I am living proof of that.
Division is not something I will allow.
These items will not be yours
I am keeping this entire shipment
for myself.
No one else matters.

It was a howling good night for a pumpkin fight.
The cats were ready, their witches soon would alight.
The woods were aglow with lit cauldrons so bright.
Halloween Eve was prancing about, a marvelous sight.
How many pumpkins will we need for the fright?
Asked Merlonia, the head cat of Old Witch McBright.
She was the most sage and wise familiar here tonight.
They began stockpiling their ammunition, a horrific sight!

It's inevitable the momentum of the large headed human ego....
has finally put mankind over the brink.
There's no coming back
the clock says 1 second 'til midnight.
The earthworms have shed their glass slippers
Soon they'll be sliding underground...
their prince will not follow.
They've been tunneling and stockpiling for decades
food- ammunition-water
the{numerators}elite and their loved ones
have their inner mountain retreat...
On a smaller scale the (denominators) have followed their lead.
The remainders/the remains/: the poor who couldn't afford to stockpile
and those that could afford to but were to stubborn to listen.
Will be left scrambling above
banding and disbanding
willy-nilly
whatever the moment dictates
frantic
scrounging for rat meat
and toilet paper
during a nuclear winter
666 miles of social distancing,
Fondly remembering when it was only 6 feet
putting balm to nuclear skin
covering open wounds with papyrus.
They'll forge an eleventh commandment
then just as quickly break it.
With mankind's flesh between their teeth
they'll be begging to a God
who finally got sick of it all
and stopped listening-

Sue’s purchased a huge baked bean mountain,
There’s ninety six tin’s - she’s been countin'
From midnight to morn
She’ll toot like a horn
There’s a flatulent stench I’m not doubtin!
Her neighbours they sure are not smiling
They’ve noticed how Sue is stockpiling
By hoarding loo rolls
And pasta in bowls
A report on Facebook they’re compiling
She claims all these things are ‘for me’
But sells them for an inflated fee
There’s a massive amount
In her e-bay account
It’s selfish I think you’ll agree!
Fiction poem but having seen stuff for sale on E bay it does have a ring of truth to it

What has happened to society?
Oh how I miss the olden days
When people helped everyone else
Now no-one does anything for nothing
People are just out for themselves
I remember the close-knit communities
Doing favours for one another
When young people had respect
For their father and their mother
It breaks my heart to think about
How much times have changed
Family-life a thing of the past
And kin-folk are estranged
The world is in the grip of a virus
And common sense is a thing of the past
People stockpiling goods whether needed or not
Spaces on supermarket shelves are vast
I'd like to say to panic-buyers
Filled with selfishness and greed
Please stop for a minute and think
Of the elderly and vulnerable in need
Only buy as much as you need
And leave food for everyone else
Consider other people's needs
And stop just thinking about yourself
Let us all be more considerate
And caring about our fellow man
Look out for one another
And cope the best that we can

From China, Covid-19 its name,
Travelled west, and here it came.
Affecting many, making them ill.
It’s one purpose, seeming to kill.
Coughing, spreading, without knowing.
Events cancelled, no movies showing.
Calls for calm, as it takes its toll,
Morons stockpiling toilet roll.
Panic buying, hand gels and soap.
People dying, a loss of hope.
This virus, it cares not.
Though it hates the weather hot.
Take extra care, if you’re unwell,
And it will, be just swell.
Wash your hands, to stop the spread,
Else you may, well end up dead!

For loo rolls some shoppers are vying
and people are seen panic buying
The shelves are now empty
When once there was plenty
Stockpiling - there is no denying!
I panic when I need the loo -
I’m hoping its wee wee not pooh
Cos I’m sat on the seat
and we’re down to one sheet
Perhaps torn newspapers will do!

We're in the foothills of a second civil war
the divide between left and right
burning and widening
Peace undermined by the rich behemoth... indifference
the uneven eye of the media leviathan
universities raping our children's minds
impregnating with stalinleninputinxi disease.
Slapping lady liberty in the mouth
with metal dongs of intolerance.
Cutting out tongues of freedom of speech-of religion-of differing opinion
and the socialist/commies and pacifist wonder why
we the people are stockpiling high caliber rights.
It's because mad clowns are running the government
entitled mad dogs are crapping in the streets
the elite and naive emptying jails and asylums
onto our streets.
While they sleep soundly behind gated communities
while their storm troopers are slicing the stars from old glory
never satisfied with anything.
Always burning and cutting and running-reaping
never sitting-talking -discussing-seeding...
burning tongues and bloody stars.
Amassing in the foothills of the second civil war.

we think
everyone’s goal
in life
is to be happy
i don’t understand it
but for some people
it’s all about power
or just being right
really it’s about
what makes
them
happy
we have different
definitions of
what happiness is
and we’re always
surprised when
theirs differ from ours
for some
it’s to be proven smarter
crushing one’s opponents
shopping till you drop
quietly reading in a corner
eating till you burst
making money no matter how
stockpiling mountains of savings
disrespecting lower class
barking orders
abusing the weak
badmouthing loved ones
pursuit of one’s perversions
living for one’s children
pumping iron all day long
the thrill of the chase
the high of the adventure…
our happiness is what drives us all
in our very idiosyncratic ways

You don't make people safer
by supplying more guns,
you only make it safer through disarmament.
You don't make a world safer
by stockpiling bombs
you only make it safer through disarmament.
our arms we use to hug
are all the arms we need
so let's re-instate some sanity please.

Ah, the joys of summer
delightful sights that
lift our spirits
feed our souls
Chickadees frolic
in the sprinkler, bathe
in puddles on the patio
The arched trellis, encased
in delicate cardinal vines
bright red star-shapes
sing hummingbird's song
Trees in full regalia
absorb the heat, offer
shade and gentle breezes
Four o' clocks present their colors
reveal cheerful faces
only at night
Melon vines "taking over"
redeem themselves with
promise of tasty treat
Sweet Peas cling
to the aged oak
wearing lush pink ornaments
We enjoy these summer pleasures
stockpiling in memory
moments to treasure
in winter's freeze
