Softhearted Poems

Premium MemberAn Amiable Apparition

In the old city of St. John's,
in the older neighborhoods,
there are haunted houses...
residences with revenants...
apartments with apparitions...
even schools with spectres;
and there is one edifice with an eidolon
that I know well:
a softhearted shadow
very benevolent,
not at all maleficent.

It is supposedly the ghost of a child
who passed many years before;
a tale from days of yore
not well-known in local folklore.

This ghost is known to close
latches, doors and windows,
as if the occupants are being told
"Please keep out the damp and cold!" -
a phenomenon inexplicable
by a force completely invisible.

Some years ago, I observed this first-hand
and I'm sure I did not fully understand,
but I quickly deduced that it would be most
polite to say "Thank you" to the ghost -
a sudden burst of intuition
to please and placate this amiable apparition!

Not All Stones Are Diamonds

Sunday morning up with the lark,
I went jogging in the park.
Suddenly I felt pain in my sides,
soon I started taking long strides.

I went to the doctor immediately,
I needed help desperately.
The doctor smiled and wrote me some tests.
Clinic visits I always detest.

The doctor told me I had crystals,
no not diamonds the oxalic one.
The doctor said wrly "don't worry my son."
"I can turn them into small pieces by surgical procedure",
the doctor said proudly giving my brain untimely seizures.

How was he going to break them small?
how were they going to pass?
Never could I imagine that such tiny stones could also harass.

Not all stones are diamonds,
some are kidney stones,
The pain these tiny crystals inflict can make you simply atone.

Passing these tiny stones was no easy task,
no better punishment for all my sins I could ever ask.
Finally the stones departed,
passing them was not for the softhearted.

Don't underestimate these tiny stones,
they can make grown ups moan.
Eat healthy ,stay fresh and take care of your each bone
and
please beware of the kidney stones.

A Risen Enigma

Among the wounded and underrated entities,
Lies an enigma,
Handsome, softhearted but torn,
This is wrecking havoc in my soul.

The Nigerian society made me,
But I forged my fists and spine with a steel,
To withstand and defend against a coup de grâce,
And also conquer religion and politics.

They are watching but can't feel my pain,
And the bleeding on my wounded sensibilities,
Because I smell so good in a dirty water,
Flowing to the next chapter of my life.

Cloaked by insecurities, fears, and intimidation,
All I'm doing is to make a living out of the tawdry life the society gave me,
Today, I love the way you sit there,
And barely notice me at all when I rise.

Premium MemberPoet Dreamer

Poet.

People find me loyal, softhearted, gregarious, and an intellectual.

I was born the third eldest of ten sisters and two brothers.

I love my husband, our family, children and ordinary folks.

My poems express empathy, compassion and indignation.

I fear a bleak future, wrought by global warming, and over population.

And if it were possible, I'd love to meet Jesus, an alien and Nikola Tesla.

A prolific writer, I'm a proud resident of Toronto Ontario, Canada.

Dreamer.

Premium MemberHello To Friends

Across the blue sky in golden warmness,
birds fly in a 'V' shape in total grace.
The sunshine bathed in softhearted kindness,
caressing a child's delicate blush face.

Birds fly in a 'V' shape in total grace.
She sits entertaining in her small world.
Caressing a child's delicate blush face
on a table set for tea; time unfurled.

She sits entertaining in her small world
by the vibrant bed of blooming flowers
on a table set for tea; time unfurled.
She pretends she is with her friends for hours.

By the vibrant bed of blooming flowers,
she says to her dolls, "Hello, Brie and Dee,"
she pretends she is with her friends for hours,
"I'm so glad you dropped in for cake and tea."

She says to her dolls, "Hello, Brie and Dee,"
a perfect day against blushing blossoms,
"I'm so glad you dropped in for cake and tea,"
as butterflies flitted among the mums.

A perfect day against blushing blossoms,
the sunshine bathed in softhearted kindness,
as butterflies flitted among the mums
across the blue sky in golden warmness.

My Hero

When you came to me
I was brokenhearted and blue
you took an interest in me, love
and I instantly knew

that you were then my hero
soft-spoken and softhearted
you showed me what it felt like
to receive true love and know
it has only started.

Today I still feel that love
as warm as it could be
and I am still in love with you
my hero, true and sweet.
