Snappers Poems

Premium MemberLife's A Hoot

Today is the first day of the rest of our lives
No matter how much time we have left
A sobering thought as we reach our golden years
Our number could be up tomorrow, next week, next year

So we must enjoy life to the fullest, make every day count
We don't get to go around twice
When we're young whipper snappers
Old age is eons into the future

Our main concern is dealing with everyday life
With all of it's ups and downs, it's uncertainties
With romance, with choosing a vocation
But when all is said and done and we near retirement

It's all water under the bridge
So what I'm saying to all you young folks
Live your life to the fullest
Make every single day count as if it was your last

Tell your loved ones every day how much they mean to you
In case you don't get another chance
Life's a hoot...
enjoy it!

tall Tales

The Meat Locker

The largest ice freezer of free-range Texan
long-horns where mice wore fur to survive
broke down, the carcasses began rotting
thrown into the bay.
The day after, sharks came to the surface
throwing up, turning the water foamy
For anglers, it was a bonus they caught
big marlins and red snappers

Premium MemberWobbly Legs

When I was younger and thought of old age
Thought we all became senile at this elderly stage

It appears I was wrong, I can still go potty
And able to dress this tired old body

Try as I might, I don't see very well
And my wobbly old legs are as shaky as hell

Sometimes my words come out like a squeak
Other times I whistle when trying to speak

Have a secret my young whipper snappers
It's as good as it gets except for my bladder

It seems to be constantly wanting attention
I don't have a problem with pee retention

So now that I've told you what to expect
I must tell you all it's as good as it gets

Enjoy your youth cause it's downhill from here
You'll soon be old and decrepit I fear

Traveler's Regret

Traveler's regrets

He had been a sailor all his life, a traveler trying to find
the boy he left behind in the haste of becoming an adult.
An autumnal leaf falls into a stream, follows its course
but sometimes, there is a tiny inlet where the leaf gets stuck with other debris before getting loose again and drifting where the stream meets, a river that ends in the sea, becomes a mud bank full of nutrient-attracting
red snappers.
Often, he senses the pain the world suffers at the pain of
the futility of life, to stop for a moment contemplating
He thinks the boy will know, he has lived long enough
to not chase rainbows, a fleur-de-lys is but pretty and disappears from view in a dreamy haze
Perhaps it was the voyage that mattered, not how it ends

Premium MemberTexting

Young geeks, txt with lightning speed,
Old dudes, lol, trying hard to find the next key to text,
w/e our asl may be, we are trying to convey,
our feelings, imho, in a cryptic language.

Codgers love the high from aged malt,
Whipper-snappers are already addicted to texting before they know,
You may go to jail for dui,
But you may be dead texting and driving,

Texting has its own dictionary and personalities trait,
Btw idk if still ily? u wre my og,
Nvm ‘m smh, hmu asap,
No cap, tbh Ily.

Kit w/ ur hak, ur pain and sorrow, ur social events,
I will reply you with im chat,
a chat waiting to be responded,
Is like missing ur xoxoxo.

The Sea Is Deep

Deep is the sea

A cook on a ship sat on a pollard drinking beer
when he got up, the ship lurched, and he fell overboard
He swam on his back, moving his arms slowly
thinking, if the meat he had taken from the freezer had thawed
He must have fallen half sleep when feeling the water
was swallowed, got up, waded ashore on a small island
Tired, he sat in the sand to sleep more until the sun burnt
his face (cooks have pale faces) and a land crab bit his toe.
Thirsty, he walked around the island and came upon
fishermen, frying red snappers; immediately, the cook felt
at home and said: “Good morning.”
Surprised at first, he told of his mishap, and they welcomed him
to eat and drink cold beer.
When the news, the cook was saved, reached the press, he didn’t
mind as few cooks ever get to be famous

A Traveller's Regret

The traveller’s regrets

He has been a sailor all his life, a traveller trying to find
the boy he left behind, the haste to become an adult
an Autumnal leaf falls into the stream follow its course
but sometimes, there is a tiny inlet where it gets stuck
with other debris before getting loose again and drifting
to where the stream meets a river that ends in the sea
where mighty rivers add nothing but mudbanks that
are full of nutrients and attract edible snappers.
Often, he senses the world ache of the futility of life
to stop for a little while for inaudible contemplation
not to hunger for what he cannot acquire, the ease
of a life well lived.
He thinks the boy will know, who has lived long enough
not to chase rainbows, a fleur-de-lys is but pretty and
disappears from view in a dreamy haze.
Perhaps it was the voyage that mattered and not how
it ends.

Premium MemberSouthern Comfort Beds

the goslings have shed ochre puffs
which are no longer in vogue,
           they're wobbling toddlers now
too big for the snappers' jaw
they cannot fly at all- as of yet
but come fall they'll knead icy skies
                       into warm southern comfort beds

Premium MemberWaves - Max

waves cycle around
ebbing turquoise seas
ripples do tease

waves swim fathoms deep
returning to navy blue seas
smiles of pearly foam

surf currents of waves
navy blue road flows
salty drinks on deck

waves oxygenate seas
whales dolphins sharks snappers
ride wave vehicles

waves do break
upon many shore lands
seen crabs clams

waves flow and roll
white pearls teeth foamy tops
smiles back at me

water waves wind
wheeling whirlpool whirls
wreckage washed-up

Premium MemberGrandma At the Track

GRANDMA AT THE TRACK

foolishly
i threw the rock
and appeared
to hopscotch
until the ill of my ankle
violently mocked

i chalk it all up
to forget me nots

my mind over knees
ignores
the rusty gears
as my wrinkled hand
avoids resistance
hovering a half inch
above the bannister -
safe.

now i watch youngsters skate.
those whipper snappers
with the gait of a purebred horse.

i huddle with my overloaded purse
carrying 3 cell phones and mine,
a roll of ticket winnings,
leftover candy,

then i
chase my four-year old grandson
‘round the outskirts
as he weaves between strangers
taking my heart with him.

mind you,
the thoroughbreds
are resting soundly
on the bench.

The Crumbsnatcher

Ebony BB’s
Long pointy nose
In the dark moonless night
The Crumbsnatcher froze

Forever alert
No lack of threats
In search of a meal
Uncertain the next

A sense of a sound
From near, maybe far
Don’t move a muscle
Stay right where you are

Waiting and watching
Silent and careful
Don’t be impatient
Mistakes can be fatal

Neglect the cat
Your life will be over
They’re fast with the claw
Worry not about Rover

The Snappers are tricky
They tempt you with cheese
You may think you’re quicker
Take a chance, if you please

Wiser to skip it
Eat that old moldy wafer
Not the best dinner
But infinitely safer

In need of some water
Too long you’re in drought
Stay away from the sink
You’d never climb out

Now run for the shadows
Great urgency take
If memory’s true
It’s the stink of a snake

What was that now
A sound close to silence
Could be the Owl’s wings
Carrying violence

Huddle yourself tight
The night is soon done
Then return to the nest
Another day won

A Crumbsnatcher needs
Life’s skills be refined
‘Cause unlike that cat
He doesn’t have nine
