Three bros., Wideye, Snaggletooth, and Zonkers
When in town went a little bit bonkers
With the girls that walked by
What was level with their eye
Was ogled, whistled at, or they'd honk-hers!

Oh the milkshakes in Manila are a wonderful treat
A pretty Filipina is a party complete
The strawberry, blackberry, and blueberry cream
Are second to vanilla in a dewberry dream
Now the seashore in Manila is a beautiful place
The lingering vanilla is a dab on your face
You order second helpings for a lovable flirt
Because she loves vanilla when you offer dessert
Oh the milkshakes in Manila hit a wonderful spot
I always like vanilla when the climate is hot
The girlfriends are friendly when you offer a cone
But don’t you mind the trouble when they get you alone
Now the sailors in Manila are a snaggletooth sort
They favor their vanilla in a haggle-free port
They like to catch the ladies in a lovable swoon
Or marry some vanilla to a strawberry spoon
Oh the milkshakes in Manila are a creamy delight
I like to drink a couple when the weather is right
The tidal waves are winking by the soles of my feet
To drink the star’s vanilla in a milky way teat.

An elusive blue snaggletooth,
I guess I’m not much of a sleuth;
Hidden vinyl Jawa style,
treasure holds a childhood smile;
Find it it’s like a fountain of youth.

a jar of cold pickles
a bunch of needed napkins
memories of a time of less rust
when feeling safe was the norm
and flannel pajamas was my rave
a bowl of butterscotch discs
a big ole snaggletooth smile on my face
memories of a time of cheaper prices
when saturday mornings was a grand vibe
and flannel pajamas was my rave
an old fashioned southern breakfast grandma style
ice cold orange juice made from that frozen can thingy
memories of good music on one good radio station
when a candy store was either right up the street or right around the corner
and flannel pajamas was my rave
a trip to that duff's smorgasbord buffet restaurant
a good bit of naughty grease on the coat of my best sunday suit
memories of family focused on family and not plugged in or charged up devices
when familial love, togetherness, and unity meant something way deeper
and polyester pajamas was my alternative rave

My son was a kid in a room.
Tubs full of Star Wars figures;
Rancor Monster, Squid Head, Yak Face.
Admiral Akbar was a good guy
with a mother somewhere,
a fine woman though a bit of a trout no doubt.
but Snaggletooth with his blaster
was an irredeemable mother er.
Then, from a parallel universe,
Skeletor, Beast Man and Evil-lyn
drop from the outer rim of a boxed universe,
all arriving in a sullen haste to lay the room waste.
Evil-Lyn was hot. We kept her out of the carnage mostly,
but she was bad to the plastic bone.
My son tells me he has visions,
he sees leather-winged daemons.
I lie, tell him that there are no toy figures of those,
so they don’t exist.
On the floor, monsters are on a rampage
He-man is screwing up as usual.
For both of us
our only hope is in Optimus Prime.

October brings shivers to folks in Three Rivers
When fields of green turn to brown
And the people excited are more than delighted
By leaves that come tumbling down
Well a charmer named Fred was the farmer who said
That a pumpkin is ripe to be carved
And the bumpkin was right by the bugs in the light
Of a porch with a kid who is starved
For the sweet that is picked is the one that is licked
By the ghost with the most appetite
And the kid may be tricked by the street that is slicked
By the very first snow of the night
For the sugar you share is the sign that you care
When you wait for the witch in your sight
And the nag with a bag is a very small hag
With a new snaggletooth and a bite
Now the trip that you take is a pleasure to make
For the sake of the old and the young
And the path you complete is the one on your street
Where the monsters are happily hung
When the moment is done for the kids and their fun
All you have is a big pumpkin fruit
And the battle is won by the daughter and son
Who are eating the rest of your loot.

Mock battles with my sons.
Star Wars characters hauled out
of their tubs.
Rancor Monster, Squid Head, Yak Face.
Darth Vader, Jabba the Hut…
Snaggletooth is a real dick.
Skeletor, Beast Man and Evil-lyn.
The whole crew, just bad to the bone,
but at least Evil-lyn was hot.
All the D.C. Comic book crooks
grimacing, malformed and cavorting.
Monsters eating monsters,
bad guys with their henchmen.
He knows that this is not just play
and I won’t lie to him.
I guess we both knew back then
that this world mirrors its demons.
Our only hope
is in Optimus Prime.

Your mama said my mama
was blacker than burnt white toast
My daddy said your daddy
was a vanilla, rice cake loving Oriole
Your brother said my brother
was a jive, jitterbugging jigaboo
My sister said your sister
was a nappy head, big lip snaggletooth
Your best friend said my best friend
was an empty can of dummy orange juice
My best friend said your best friend
was a cuckoo for Coco Puffs fruit loop
I heard you said that I
was a lazy, waging the tail barf boy
You heard that I said you
was a bowlegged, cross-eyed Barbie toy
As children
we were taught that stick and stones
may break our bones
But words could never hurt
Good advice though that may be,
we know better ...
Words do hurt people feelings deeply

After their game the boys had to walk
On the way home they started to talk
The sun was up high, it shown on their back
They noticed the two boys in front of them were thin and black
One said " I bet if our shadows fought mine would win"
The other looked at him with a snaggletooth grin
They started throwing punches until the sun went out of sight
One said to the other " Now we will never know who won the fight"

alice sits in a field of sunflowers
i catch her in a deep state of admiration
i never see her smile so i just shake my head and smile
here....alice does not know the meaning of alopecia areata
in this field, the sunflowers hug alice back
in this field, she feels like the most beautiful six year old girl in the world
it brings me to tears almost to see her so at peace with life and herself
not wanting to disturb her reverie, i turn around quietly to leave
not even five seconds later, i feel a tug on my shirt
alice is looking up at me with her beautiful brown puppy dog eyes
she knows that i know
i know that she knows
i simply say 'orange cream slushie'
she shakes her head rapidly and gives me a big, bright snaggletooth smile
i make alice queen for the rest of the day
she gives me the best hug i will ever have in my life
unbeknownst to her, alice will always be Queen for the rest of MY days....

sweet seashell queen
just had surgery to remove a tumor off her brain stem
today she celebrates her 6th BirthDay
whatever she wants is the law of our world
i almost choke up thinking about how brave she was
hell, she gave me hope, encouragement, and inspiration
i tell her she can go in the water....but not too far
she replies by saying, 'i am on vacation when i am by your side'
she then puts the most beautiful seashells in my hand and rests her head in my lap
we listen to the waves for hours
she falls asleep....and i fall even more in love with this amazing little girl
when she wakes up, she asks if we could go and get the blue bubble gum ice cream
i remind her that it is her day and that she is the sweet seashell queen
she put the seashell crown i surprised her with just before we headed out back on
with a snaggletooth smile she says with her head slightly tilted to the right 'OH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!'

FRINGE BENEFITS FOR WANTING WHAT I CAN NEVER HAVE
snaggletooth and lonely
hungering for hunger and boney
in my mind, wanting to love you only
when you pass by, i gurgle in honor of you
piss poor and destitute, my shrine of you expresses from a quiet
place on the downlow
hip hurting and shaking for foundations of my body heat, my thoughts of you leave me with sticky icicles
crying like a baby to the open diary of the moon, i daydream in zonules of rocketship anecdotes
i am a pinball wizard rolling caravans of wishful thinking around the many mazes that the stars create
then i pause....become blank....lose focus....become devoid of all thought
i sleep a stiffened steep sleep till morning
then i become the antisocial broken record again buying flowers for all my thoughts of you.....
