"LUX VITAE LUX"
Here you stamp
your mark of
approval or not
We meet at the point
where a Father
is the judge of what is good
and what is not.
And we try so hard
to avoid heart contact
over all the plundering words said
light and dark
yet we open minds
that chance by our trials
to believe in something bigger -
Ours
in hours
kangaroo courts
turn triggers
forgiveness
bleeds kindness
that empowers
never forgotten
never left behind
key burns the open backhand
for Heart’s gate
the golden thread
gifted you
through eye of needle
labyrinthine
smyth sewn into
the fabric of you
You,
of all people
I will bring through
with me
to the other side
Evensong -
though you don't believe,
I did all along

“I Hear the Song in Reverse”
You are my song
in reverse;
I real you in
like a fox on the run
with your story
between my teeth,
a cotton reel
spun on an old Singer
sewing machine
stolen and unraveling
dream moments
from your youth
and past the future,
I run I run
I see everything in
the stitches of a
spine on the
book that
is titled,
“Mine”,
but
TRUTH
be told
it is yours.
I live the life
of a Smyth Sewer
threading life stories
through loops
You are always
shimmering
inside the pocket
of my
Heart
Locked,
but running free
in the Magnet
that is my Mind
(LadyLabyrinth / 2020)
everyone I have ever loved...or touched.

“deus ex machina”
When LOVE came knocking at our door
we stood there opposite sides
like torn pages
from the chapters of a banned book
with no spine
awaiting
collaboration
A common thread
our folded signatures are stitched together
and then joined with other signatures
to create the complete book
Enter the wings of fortune
Fortune that favours the brave
The Smyth Sewer smiled a whisper,
“deus ex machina, The Plot, so not a grave”

"Smyth sewing is a method of book binding where groups of folded pages (referred to as signatures) are stitched together using binder thread. Each folded signature is sewn together individually with multiple stiches and then joined with other signatures to create the complete book block. If you page through a Smyth-sewn book, you can see the thread stitches in the center fold of each signature."

I remember the gun shot.
I remember my parents running to Jocelyn's room.
I remember seeing the blood running from her pretty face.
And I felt the tears streaming down mine.
How much pain can a heart takes before it gives out.
I am sure I am pretty close.
If I could just have one more day with her, that's all I will ever want in life.
Just to hold her in my arms, tell her it's okay, I love her.
Jocelyn, my heaven is where ever you are.
And since you aren't here on earth, I am in a living hell.
I don't know how we can get through the days without you here.
Without your laughter, your humor, your beautiful face.
But when that time comes for me to see you, I will be elated.
I hope you are doing okay there in heaven.
I hope you are thinking of us, because we are thinking of you everyday.
Jocelyn Smyth, you were the best sister ever, I love you.

**In memory of Jocelyn Elizabeth Smyth RIP 3/27/10 You will always be loved**
The one I had tea parties with.
The one I played games with.
The one I loved unconditionally.
Jocelyn.
She was the best sister ever.
She was the smartest sister ever.
She was the prettiest sister ever.
Jocelyn.
I don't know why she took her life.
I don't know why she isn't with us now.
I don't know why she did this to me.
Jocelyn.
I loved your personality.
I loved your sense of humor.
I loved your chats on the bed with me.
Jocelyn.
When I cry myself to sleep, I think of you.
When I garden in the summer, I think of you.
When I do a swan dive into the pool, I think of you.
Jocelyn.
You will always be loved by me.
You will always be loved by mom.
You will always be loved by dad.
Jocelyn.
