Sixth birthday

Six candles on your birthday cake
We have many more wishes to make
On this day, let there be endless fun
With days of fairy tales creeping in
Toddler to preschooler to schoolgirl
Let the year ahead be more joyful
You are moving ahead with time
I won't get a chance to go back in time
But I swear, to put my greeting in rhyme
I am sure, now you can read and write
Cheer with rainbow colours so bright
From scratches to sketches, you moved on
To draw the figures of your choice
Oh! Saanvi, it is gala time for us to rejoice.

The brightest song I have ever sung
The sweetest picture ever I drew
In all the worlds and visions among
were the merest sketches of
beautiful you.

Like a thunderous rainstorm,
it came with force and was
impossible to hold back. This
morning as I was thumbing through
an old notebook, I saw sketches
drawn by my favorite little girl.
There were sketches about fashion,
her favorite theme.

My eyes began to moisten as grief
came rushing from the deep. I turned
the page and then another. I was arrested
and captured by that third page depicting
the artwork of her and me.

I was overwhelmed with both joy and grief
that pulled me down into a sea of tears and a
sounding cry. Her little hands were in mine
displaying the words, "I love you, Grandpa".

For 22 years, she had a grandpa to love and
a grandpa to love her. Nearly three months ago,
cancer took her from us, but I am overjoyed
with the sketches I discovered.

Pet Poem, My Pup Hufty

Pet Poem, My Pup Hufty

(My fist year living away from my parents)

I wanted a puppy.  I didn’t choose her,
But she became mine, staring out the third-floor
Window of that Chicago apartment, together
Watching it snow as I asked her, “What do you see?”

My artist friend picked her, “For her beauty,” he said,
Tho I didn’t see it, as she was a short-haired blonde,
While our family dogs had been black and scruffy or
Mostly so...Still, we’d walk daily in cold, falling snow.

On the shore of Lake Michigan, I’d let her run free
And she found great joy in scrambling over Ice
Plates set askew, angles to angles, waves frozen in
Mid-motion. She thrilled in the attempts to run.

Happy, I watched, cheering her on, then on
Back at home, she shadowed me, famous for
Sleeping on my sketches as I worked and growling
Away apartment mice. She traveled in three states

With me. She was mine completely and still is...
Watching for me over the bridge...
To come and so walk together again under
Falling stardust with the rest of our waiting pack.

Sketches of Motion

The soul has to courageously experience all things,
taking steps in new direction by adjusting the wings.
Genuine sincerity regardless of fancy and pleasure,
destinations journey to accumulate embrasure.
Silence serves as lock of the excitable,
shielding the wisdom as veil before versed delightable.
The trades of life adjust in time to advance,
mastering oneself to vices enhanced.
Passing through and rise to conquer,
progress loving virtues anchor.
Believing fuel and inspired light,
struggling self as consuming flame of right.
Compassion the smoking glow of faith,
flames that illuminates the path of right.
The journey of freedom leads to captivity,
mountain pass of discipline towards liberty.
Translation become reincarnation,
the fine line of interpretation.
Subjecting the ideal as true realization,
the soul as part of love becomes glorification.

No Greater Gift Than Thee

Across the floor and beyond the tree
   there is no greater gift than thee,
to think, that a year of neglect can be purchased.

Do you recall when we adorned our conifer topped with His Majesty
   and we sung praises and hymns of "Blest be..."?
But now our youth has given way to progress.

How empty and shallow now... gone is all but the memory
   of simpler times of just you and me
when trophies were ambitious goals of conquest.

Now here I lay and giving way to thoughts of me,
   dear Lord mercy me, have mercy me.
       There is no greater gift than thee.

Cosmic Sketches

consider cumulus frost-bitten clouds
curious billows sporting fluffy shrouds
zeniths growing, burgeoning powers
forming glorious looming towers

hyperboles design brief distortions
comic sketches of monstrous proportions
colliding cotton, silvery might
enormous collections, wondrous white

cryptic constructions, icy smoke
cumulus clouds lure sky-eyeing folk
hewn works mimic stunning sculpture
structures wrought from counterculture

Sketches of a Dream

Stretching deformation of clouds by audacious desire,
firmaments of illusion to admire.
Rational texture of scientific declaration,
reflections in mirrored capacity for the nation.
The mighty ego and its desperation to exist,
relativities adapt to the chill of the morning mist.
Rising light of ambition,
the promised exchange towards others submission.
From the tower of ecstasy, that fragile height,
power of the merciless and all proud of might.
Winds of false hope the incomparable element,
hailing the imperfect pursuit in all contempt.
When air is not free and water does not flow,
the disembodied soul goes, for she does not know.
The illusions of the wicked to create permanent existence,
not realizing that perfection has no resistance.
Drawing emanation from the skies,
dreams in symmetry’s by the awaken eyes.

That's what I write - - -
Sketches
Sketches of life
as they pop
into my head
striking at all hours
wherever, whenever
I try to carry a note pad
so I can capture
these bursts of inspiration
as I realize
my time as an Artist
is all encompassing
while I enjoy
the days and nights
with a fascination
that borders on extremism
as I doodle
at all hours
of this mystical ride.

A writer writes
As symbols cite

An artist paints
A visual strain

A thinker thinks
A verge or brink

A singer sings
A vibrant fling

A player plays
A sporty say

A dreamer dreams
A profound theme

A craftsman crafts
As finesse drafts

A thousand jobs
A certain lob

A way to live
A way to give

A sketch in time
A poignant rhyme

(Dedication: For Clara)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Visual thoughts stroke
What fancy yokes
Finesse knows how
To paint right now
Fine palette tints
As colours hint
Leach aqueous streaks
Soft paint brush speaks
Strokes in fond ease
Shades of fine piece
Teary drops squeeze
Oomph in a breeze
Wet streaks find light
A warm touch bright
Moments to paint
Wet migrant taint
In a small space
Moist tints greet trace
Sweet vibrant wit
Soft hues sculpt fit
Poster art form
Motifs meet norms
IRRESISTIBLE – Two sketches
Bella Donna
At distance
She had beauty of form –
A kind of neutral simplicity
Which added perfumed color
To those surround
Closing on subject
One might notice a slight pink rush
On her blossom face
A deep emerald glow
Striking the eye
The meeting is sudden
One yearns to touch
Ah   but to kiss
Would be sorry    for
A poison heart stains that loveliness
POPPY
Her dress is varied –
A mixed confusion of inner colors
Detracting from those not lesser charms -
The lemon creamy fringes
The central ebony and peach flares
Blend to focus an oval   black beauty
With laughing lips
And a will to be loved
A new day hurls a windy dawn,
Frozen sleep swirls an early morn.
Sloppy steps move with sleepy lot,
In edgy grooves dull wit now slots.
Turn on the lights and let head sync,
Abruptly bright pace fondles think.
Eyes in dim fit now contrast blur,
Attempt sore bits of body slur.
Sleepy eyes gaze with blurry feel,
A mindless maze treats feeble will.
Adjust and see odd tints and hues,
Head till heavy with dreamy cues.
Moments fly by in sleepy grooves,
A simple sigh frames sketchy moves.
So wake odd nerves and do awake,
Make moments serve that morning take.
Outlook in hues of vibrant tints,
Use of fond shades of drawings cheer;
Rich palette cues of colours mint.
See movement made in streaks of tears,
Glimpses of paint in water marks;
Poignant feel trace what sight attests.
Spread aqueous rain in striking sparks,
Keep form that grace deep colour fest;
Echoes of tints that frame fancy,
Thought flings image on paper grooves;
Charm exults hint in clarity,
Hurl blank white page with sparkling moves;
Etch in fond sketch picturesque art,
Succinct the match fine craft greets heart.
Mindset moves me to treasure traits,
Yes yields plenty as wander finds.
Wear wonder well where wisdom waits,
Opt sure fancy with discrete mind;
Rouse up the feel of certain thought,
Discern the trace for craft that flings.
Sense how time thrills the fate you plot,
Know time claims space in change that springs;
Etch sketch most fine in crafty verge,
Touch thrills the mood of certain edge;
Choice seeds each line in vivid urge,
Heap what grooms good on life's sure page;
Explore the match of how zest thrills,
Stay your bright sketch on joy's grand spill.
