I am digging in my sandpit
and I find a wriggly worm
I take it to show my mummy
you should have seen her squirm!
She does not like creepy crawlies
as they make her feel quite ill
But she's not seen my new pet spider
I have called my spider Bill!

The touch of gossamer wings
on eyelids busy with the darkest,deepest
thoughts of sleep
under the chinaberry tree
bending,sighing
one with the sea of grass
windy waves
chasing each other across the yard
gone to seed
with dandelionsandforgetmenots
blueblack cats
hiding from lizards
until it is too late
coming back to bring you
a surprise
a gift of love
a wriggly trophy
to wake you laughing
from your dreams
Six feet tall
anchored with thin lines
to the rain spouts and drains,
hanging like a circular banner
glowing in our security light
centered by a dark wriggly thing
big enough to see from the
upstairs window. There's
something about the moving
legs of spiders that scares me,
so precisely was it
sorting out its threads.
But in the morning
nothing but a ruin.
The light runs swiftly through it,
barely diffused and there is no
monster.

like a load of spaghetti
all coily not straight
roundy and writhy
curly with flow
like stringy all knotty
and cotton to sew
a scribble of dribble
all longy in length
and bendy and turny
beginning to end
spirally spiralled
wriggly and roll
wiggled and wavy
like a zigzaggy pole
snakey and snakile
like an old twisty loop
sinewed and mazy
or ouroboros hoop
so anyway a snake
a snake anyway
did I mention a snake
I think I did say
