spray red rays on the waves
as big whales blow bubbles overhead

Here's an allegorical ode,
Men are sperm whales, Oh?
To titillate them, you know,
Then, thar he blows!
Sex or love, bleeped if I know!
Serene deep Ocean,
bereft of mighty waves-
wandering grey 'islets'.
May we all at least once on our lifetime
(because oh what a thrill it brings)
be blessed to be in attendance…
when a whale starts to sing.
I will always be grateful to whales…
for one simple reason why:
The first time I saw a whale fly
I thought…
if he can do it
so can I.
I will always be grateful to whales…
for one simple reason why:
The first time I saw a whale fly
I thought…
if he can do it
so can I.
biology class
where sperm whales are mentioned
seventh grade snickers
no one laughed in sixth
thanks to sex education
they are getting wise
First green of spring
blades of grass shake thaw
breaching the surface like whales
first spring lawn sprouting

WRESTLING WHALES
the palms over pool
witnesses of crass distress
waves ripple outward

Singers in the cold dark Atlantic Sea
Humpback whales crooning for free
Complex songs that are repeated for hours
Just one of the ocean’s mighty powers
Blessed are the whales
For people go far to keep them safe
But who will save the future of mankind
In a world so preoccupied with what's mine?
~ " " " " whales ~
When rafting across the ocean
please don't feed the sharks
For advice on feeding whales
~ see the above ditto marks
Tony snails and rusty nails
can be found near giant whales
As for candy stripes on blue-gray dolphins
all those I know went miniature-golfin'
a whales mournful cry
fades into history’s past
silent oceans weep

A pod of
Killer whales
Navigate the sea
Fish eyes gaze at the light
From the Constellation of Hercules
Sing out, sing out, because
We found this dome of heaven
Late in our age
our options wanes
in youth
we can choose
any fish in the sea
but now they'd
be
--more like whales for me?

In addition to the slogans...
"Save The Whales,"
"Save A Tree,"
and
"Save The Oceans"
We need a new one...
"Save A Poet"
(University Of Pennsylvania: July, 2019)
What are the ocean like?
How do you traverse them?
Are they as vast as we imagine?
Long and deep are your travels
Everything you do is massive
Sometimes I even long to join you
Whales can communicate one hundred miles apart
Low frequency sound waves close to their heart
African elephants could hear these sounds too
But how many of them swim in the ocean blue?
today
we don't think
therefore we are not
descartes is dead and gone
machines and computers work and think for us
our minds are shrinking, withering and decaying from lack of exercise
