Spirit Runs
I write from a place
that’s old, endowed
With brass left tarnished
and cobwebs spun
All time unsheltered,
where thoughts conceive
The truth reborn,
—and spirit runs
(Villanova Pennsylvania: May, 2017)...

Heaven
We walked this mile
for calm to stay
This drying tear is a gift
we cannot claim
We tug at thoughts
of painful moments now deleted
This place we craved unsheltered
is now our home
All love now endures
And feeble compassion dies
Our selves retain the goodness we kept
This place restores the hope we had...

I do not know?
Like Clockwork
Tall yet scrawny,
Contrition attempts to
Force its way through.
In this small window
Breed opportunity but of
An unknown flavor.
Goog-a-lee eyes always
Scrupulous and indeed
Tempting perhaps for
Once ignorable?
Unsheltered of course
Two wills in opposite
Directions cannot
Demand wholeness.

A Past So Present
Still we hold a colour at our watchful eye,
a voice in our attentive ear.
We escape nothing from our mystifying past.
Perhaps we sing a song, old or new,
feel dark or light against a so unsheltered face.
In ears a voice remains.
In an eye resides the face of a loved one.
Colour, voice, songs will never leave one's life,
though one stands before that loved one's grave.

Walls
Building my walls
Using the same bricks
I said I’d use
Flat, hard, and strong
This wall could last long
If I could but leave it alone
The color beginning to wear
The edges have bruised and broken
The fresh faced start
Reduced to regretful sighs
What of the wall?
Mortar and blood mixed to hold
Do I dare try a different stone?
Knowing that I may never come back
To this wall
Unable to build
Unsheltered alone....

Rain Within
Hearts naive
In clouds
Of her masquerading sun
That’s when
A pocketful of innocence
Spills into the rain, so numb
And the warmth
Of Love fantasy
Mingles with reality and its coming flood
Caught ever suddenly
Unsheltered
In the down pour of rejected love
Lost like...
Oil swirled rainbows
Drained through life’s gutters of emotional mud
And I wait, and wait
For the cold stinging pain
That never too soon will dry and just be done...

Dead of the Dead
Solace lacks in the crimson night
Diabolical vindictiveness lessens the light
Drink up your absinthe and feed on unsheltered prey
Not to walk beneath unmarked shadows at day
Fearing the loneliness consuming your soul
As well, blood sinfully shed for sense of control
Courting dread mentally within your being
And loosing sight in what you are seeing
The corpse of the earth keeps proposition in sight
When you are walking alone in the dead of the night...

Flaming Hot Cheeto Apocalypse
screaming wind
crosses wires
transformers boom
sticks in the rain
spewing sparks
hissing
sizzling
vomiting
smoke and steam
trees topple
creeks overflow
rivers rage
we beg for it
and it comes
atmospheric rivers of it
bomb cyclones of it
avalanches of it
tornadoes of it
acute hemorrhaging
extreme
as the 9
and
the 5
our politics
our culture
flaming hot cheeto
apocalypse
pray for
the unsheltered
the strays
all victims
caught in the storm...
