Leavened
putting my bread
stick in your oven

but it is as it is
once even

unleavened
but that's

another thing
all together...

It's unleavened bread served at Passover seders symbolic of haste. Square-shaped and corrugated it looks like a big cracker.

The First Fruits
Go and feast of unleavened bread
For seven days and now
In this sanctuary at his altar
May we drink his wine
From the scarlet cups
May you never
Thirst!

Unleavened Will
O, break your bread and pour your wine
don't fast on my behalf
you'll not find me in grain nor grapes
nor peering from the golden calf
that tempts you look away

I am your shame,
the baker of unleavened will
the tainted hutzpah on your mind
a pestilence upon your pity
a barrier between you and the all divine...

There is a blanket of yellow love.
She wrote to me of it
In an unleavened light letter,
Where my god is your god, and
Sudden drops of bereavement
leave a love nest of hands,
Making certain you knew you were part of the whole,
A vibrant pulsating joy button.
Your hands are there to hold not swat.
"Bread" in German is "Brot."...

Out of the House of Bondage
wandering in the wilderness
unleavened bread in a haste
blood of slaughtered lamb on
the windows they will pass over
magic rituals demons fight
black leather boxes ,scrolls of par
chments, knotted fringes on the corn-
ers of garments ,redemption of first born
few silver coins ,out of the house
of bondage she cried on my shoulders...

Forgiveness
Forgiveness

Dusted with determination
her bent old body plows a furrow
in the field of time.
She has bled into the earth,
eaten unleavened bread
with sacramental wine

Old Mother seasoned with
sorrow, proud of her pain
and the daily acts of contrition
that may bring absolution,
or that may crumble
like the gauzy wings of moths...

Passover Tanka 20170411
Wine, bread, bitter herbs Blood, body, sin, suffering This is Passover in old and new Testaments Love means Sacrifice
(c)Anil Deo, 11 April 2017 Shalom shalom, Happy Passover to all Jews and Christians. During Passover Jesus instituted the Holy Communion summed up in "unleavened bread & wine." PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM: "Sha'alu Shalom Yerushalayim." Ps 122:6...

Stone Cold Statues

Clothe the saints.
Whosoever sees their flesh
will be damned to the great kiln.

I love their garments, the sculptor’s breath
on billowing stone, their faces white
like hosts of God turned man,

of bread turned God, and sinners
turned harmless in unleavened circles.
I am not of the miracle life.

I only understand the statues'
never-wavering watch as their
clothing flows obdurately soft.

Consider
…reptiles and birds,
how one became the other.

Birds in the New World
screech more than they sing,
most still vocalize
through a lizard brain –
small dinosaurs perched on
dendritic branches of time.

Consider how air and blood
distilled hollow bones
brewed red corpuscles
into primal feathers.

When the moon is full in my throat,
I want what the ancient egg wants.
The bruiting call,
the echoing scream,
a becoming
in the unleavened light....
