Private Reverance
Chill
silence
of winter
Sunday morning;
church bells disturb the
translucent stained-glass calm.

Hush!
Be still.
Silent breath,
deny the noise;
strident man-made sound.
My reverence held within....

The Rose
Soft velvety petals. Light and delicate
Tenderly nurtured by loving hands to create a bold appearance each year
Your strident colours marking the summers of my childhood
An aroma that lingers like the lost memoires of those endless summer days...

The Anointed
Precious black gold
Sultry her allure of motion
Ambitious often bold
Strident slick with emotion
A rose from the soil
The cause of commotion
For she does enjoy
Our lack of devotion
The earth we destroy
By way of loco-motion
Avarice her ploy
Of our destruction...

Feeling Low?
Sometimes its okay to feel low,
it’s an ordinance of life
to make you acquainted of rife

The Democracy Lark
The sweet song of the democracy lark
Once told of a bright and hopeful dawn
Now there is only a strident bark
And the whimper of sycophants that fawn
And worship the Trump, and his massive wad
Lovers of money, with racist views
Vote for Mammon’s dodgy God!
The democracy lark is singing the blues

  The more natural the laugh
     the less the self-importance
  The harder the stare

Summer Sensations
Ocean waves gently tickle the shattered shells,
Strident seagulls briefly pierce the balmy strand.
Luring summer seems to work its magic spells
Tiny toes explore the gentle grains of sand.

A Tribute
In stillness legends lie in rows
Though strident are our chords of thought
Beckon they these ardent souls
By the eminence they hath wrought
Reflect do we in silence there
In remembrance of that life once lived
Granting we who came behind
Countless treasures come to mind
And peace adorns this quiet place
Adding to a tributes grace...

Hornblowers Anonymous
The blaring horn, the sound of silence.
Constantly strident, but you can’t hear.
You just stare, but do you care?
If you care, stop for you know not what you do.
You don’t know the power you possess.
Stop before you destroy the beautiful silence
And give birth to the terrible noise.
If you don’t care, much obliged and bless your horrible soul....

St Cuthbert
On Lindisfarne, they say,
St Cuthbert took a hooded crow,
A jackdaw and a jay,
And on their strident tongues bestowed

The gift of harmony.
No more did ugly croaks and caws
Dispute above the sea,
Or trouble those sequestered shores.

They sang all day, those three;
And as they drew their corvine kin,
The devil wept to see
His shrinking nursery of sin....

Heading Out To the Open Sea
Waves slap the hull and slither down the deck. We've left the strident seagulls far behind. The lighthouse beam pales as we pass the wreck whose rusting iron ribs still groan and grind.

Autumn
Amplitude of seasoning--spicy colors, zesty scents,
Unrestrained passion conceals a crumbling heart;
Twilight violins in tumult bow strident cacophony,
Unmasking the harvest madness in the corn.
Maternal? Never! So unlike her sister Spring,
Nonconforming Bohemian is all Autumn plans to be.

Once Upon An Autumn Night
The spool of twine grows thicker
with the winding up of days,
the garden vines, yellowed, hug the ground;
the air, intoxicated with over ripened fruit,
grows loud with strident voices, the insects' final song.
The cooled night breeze shoves us gently toward the fire
and the love-large harvest moon bends low to kiss her dying child.

Summer Rispetto
Listen to poem:
Ocean waves gently tickle the shattered shells,
Strident seagulls briefly pierce the balmy strand.
Luring summer seems to work its magic spells
Tiny toes explore the gentle grains of sand.

All trivial concerns are soon washed aside
With every ebb and flow of the cleansing tide.
Those footprints left today sweeping waves efface
And pristine sands await golden dawn’s embrace.

Light My Fire.
One strident crash of drums,
Fingers race across a carnival organ,
The lean torso
supple in leather,
enfolds the mike stand like a snake.

Apollo deigns to sing to us
of bodies in heat and dying,
and promises delayed too long,
while the amplified strings
lay down tracks for Nirvana.

Soaring, screeching for release,
Their jazzy lines converge and climax.
The ending rumble of the drummer
brings silence. Electric relief....
