Winter
Winter rushes in
as the ravenous wolf;
ready to strip the flesh off
Man or beast.

Gales scream over the land
Chasing away summer’s softness,
and frost snuffs out
 the weak of heart.

Man and beast
Endure
And await
The joys of spring....

Missing Face
Disappointment
Sinking slowly when
All I see isn't him
That expected face
Long-awaited, even
Promised
No warning
No justification, just
Gone
His missing face
Steals my joy
His missing face
Builds my frustration
His missing face
Snuffs my hopes for today
And raises my hopes for tomorrow...

At Your Grave
Silence: All I hear when I call out your name. Snow envelops me and snuffs out my flame. Gone is the light with which your name can be read, I think I hear you, but it's all in my head. I'm deep in the woods where no songs can be heard. I am the only one here, and I speak but four words.

Who?
snow and the blanketing midnight surrounds,

muffles the madness,

and snuffs out the sounds,

rising in billows

from wandering souls,

fluff up your pillows

and stare through the holes,

letting in moonlight,

like eyes of an owl,

asking Who

loves you,

beyond deaths'

dark cowl....

Discovering Hope
I cried a new galaxy of stars
wondering if all was lost,
and I braved a new world
thinking the old was diminished

but all was not lost
and nothing diminished,
as one light snuffs out
another ignites

rising over the breast
of a new world, rests Hope,
glimmering minutely but glittering
the stars of our universe...

Premium Member I'M Old Fashioned
I'm an old fashioned fellow
In a new-fangled world,
A square peg in a very round hole.
Gone's the world I grew up in,
This one's in a tailspin
And spiraling out of control.
Sometimes it's hard to keep up
As the world rushes by
And technology isn't to blame,
But the whole human race
Needs to slow down its pace
Before velocity snuffs out its flame....

Blanket
Blanket

A blanket of rain
Snuffs out the licking fire
Leaving an ashen trail
And smoke coiling
Up in the air.

A blanket of night
Shows a little ember
Shaking its way through
The remaining warmth.

A blanket of stars
To cheer its effort
The tiny light stoked
Up by the wind.

Through the blanket
Of ashes, the tiny fire waking up
Into a phoenix, it flies....

Before
Before all colors turn and fade,
And all the joys of youth have died;
Before age turns our green to brown,
Promise me you’ll be around

Before all feelings felt are lost,
And darkness snuffs the lamp of life;
Before time turns our bones to dust,
Promise me I’ll have your trust

Before death buries all our thoughts,
And fate has ground our graves to sand;
Before God calls our souls to part,
Promise me I’ll be your friend....

Leaves Me Wanting
Disappointment fills me yearly
As I shuffle Institution from Institution
Waiting to be filled with divine inspiration
Staying for my money’s worth.
Disappointment fills me weekly
As commitments strangle my time
And regularity snuffs out
The dying embers of hope
Glowing in my soul.
Disappointment fills me daily
I am ripped from dreaming beauty
As the dawn beckons reality
And the sun illuminates my existence
Sunny narcissist pessimism....

Handcuffs For Chief Craig Who Snuffs
Handcuffs for Chief Craig who snuffs!
No longer seems one who bluffs,
Empty his third boxed up Snuff;
I could not help “An Enough!”
The act capturing as duff,
Performer to nostrils rough…

Pity had I for Craig’s nose
Brownish Powder hoped to close:
Bad Air spreads each time it blows,
East/West: wherever it goes…

Craig’s fights with snuff getting tough,
Off Craig should his thick skin slough;
Keep I shall for him voice gruff
But for a Chief not him cuff....

The Breaking of the World
A bell sounds for all to hear
the death of the once yesteryear
gone all dead are the lilac dreams
resting on soft moonlight beams

A sound goes out and through the earth
out snuffs the fire that once warmed this hearth
it is the sound of inevitability
when all things fall down and break into evility

the city crumbles slowly into the moat
across and beyond the bloodless fields of oat
I cried there when this death nell tolled
and all I have left is this story to be told...

Disgrace
Disgrace
Surrounded by adulations, you flaunt your expectations.
Undue repercussions, desiring gratuitous acknowledgement of your affluence and good fortune.
Reminders of turbulent open tribulations, slamming the door and watching you crestfallen as you fall from grace.
What you call a miracle intervention when really you should do penance for the chaos unleashed.
Pedantic overflow snuffs out my exhilaration.
Is my preoccupation really but a side effect of my own disgrace?...

Black Wick
When the sun snuffs out
And the day melts down
To a black-wick night.
When the night breeds doubt
And the clouds move in
To slay the light.

When the shoreline ebbs,
And your path erodes,
Where can you stand?
When your joy subsides
Like a bath turned cold,
How can you stay warm?

From a terrible height,
Through a starless sky,
Relief will break your fall.
Once the pain has plunged
To the darkest depths,
Your spirit will climb

To rise with the sun
And reignite the sky....
